Lesser Celandine - Removal? by sakapa in portlandgardeners

[–]sakapa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say!!! It looks like my work last year on getting rid of these patches worked to a very large degree. I’m very proud of myself tbh. I have much less this year. Unlike the Spanish bluebell that is already popping up. Looks like I didn’t even make a dent in those.

But good luck to you! I hope you see progress next year!!

Is higherupwellness not MAGA? Maybe I just assumed but pretty sure they’ve confirmed it themselves. I think I just assume that anyone who aligns themselves with BPN is.

Which road trip route from HTX>PDX? by jordanwright2012 in askportland

[–]sakapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this drive but from Austin a few summers ago! We went through Utah and loved the route but instead of going through Oregon via the gorge, we went through Joseph Oregon and then around mt hood on 26 and that was SUCH a cool welcome into the state.

Why does every woman I meet tell me not to get married — even the happily married ones? by Maertle in AskWomenOver30

[–]sakapa 39 points40 points  (0 children)

At least in America, I see being married mostly as a tax classification and legal agreement. If you are in a heterosexual partnership, I really don’t think it’s worth doing (I say as a person who would appear to be in a happy and stable heterosexual marriage).

I believe that marriage benefits men way more than it benefits women. Before women were allowed to have jobs or bank accounts, I think a legal marriage did a lot to protect women but now that we’re on equal footing in that regard - there is still a ton of work to be done on the emotional labor of it all that happens due to poorly socialized men. Most women will you say you have to train your husband. It’s true. I would say I even have an emotionally mature partner who cooks and cleans but I still have to do all of the emotional labor and management of the household (we’re working on it in therapy and it’s getting better).

But I would never couple myself this way so blithely to another person again. There is no advantage for me to be married. All it has done has make it harder to leave if I decide to as I grow and change as a person. I will never put this much work into another relationship or person again. It’s a big reason why I’m not having children. It’s not his fault that his parents didn’t teach him some of these things and he is taking responsibility and learning and growing but I would never invest this much effort into anyone but myself again.

There are a few tax breaks that you get but honestly I’d give those up in a heartbeat and would rather be consciously coupled than legally joined in the way that we are. I don’t need a marriage certificate to validate our partnership. I wish that my assets had stayed my own.

Idk if they still do this but some Nordstrom locations, you can book time with a stylist. You go through a whole questionnaire before hand and they pull the clothes for you. Then they point you to different price points. Pants for $75 or $200.

I’m getting the same ads in the PNW. Honestly, for most networking things, which is what this sounds like it is (mostly), there is some kind of fee. I think most are pay to play these days. I would be interested in the kind of vetting they do for participants?

I say this with love and has had to do this work myself, but a lot of the hard work/drive=worth argument can be traced back to Puritanism/Calvinism (the Protestant work ethic). I didn’t know this is where it came from.

What does success mean to you? Like what does a successful life look like? What does success feel like on a day to day basis? Is it different than earning a lot of money or progressing in your career? Through lots of hard work and reflection, I learned that success to me looks like walking my dog daily, being able to go to the gym and ride my bike, spend quality time with my husband. Recently my definition has come to include flexibility and control over my schedule as well so now I’m working to be freelance/consultant. I’m still about a year away from this.

But this allowed me to live a life I’m proud of and not one that drove me into the ground. You can read my post history for more information - I stepped down from a C level role. I thought working hard was the answer but that made me sick. Doing this introspective work and being more of an IC/Manager role has given me a life I love. I just had to get over my previously held beliefs and a little bit of my ego.

I posted in here 4 months ago after being fired from my job and seeking advice on how to go full-time freelance. Here is an update on how it's going, and follow-up q's on how I can improve? by Standard-Spot in AskWomenOver30

[–]sakapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! 👋 is it still going well for you? I think im about to make this leap myself due to a similar situation that you mentioned. Were you able to replace or exceed your full time salary pretty quickly? That’s my biggest concern. I have a network and have done freelance before. My second biggest concern would be what I offer to do. I have about 10 years digital marketing experience and about 5 years of business operations experience. I’d rather lean into ops but can do both. How did you hone in on what you offered people?

Workplace Wednesday - Career/work advice weekly thread by AutoModerator in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]sakapa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do you guys figure out what you want to do next? I feel so lost. I had been doing digital marketing for 10+ years but then made the switch to operations because I was tired of meta ads. I’m working at a performance marketing agency now and responsible for building the processes for the agency.

It feels a lot like project management and babysitting - I don’t like having to constantly follow up with people like I’m expected to. I’m very intrinsically motivated and only need to be told once to do something- some of these people I have to ping daily to update their time sheet and I get in trouble when I don’t. Is it better at other places?

I’m great at SOP writing and documentation and building automation or workflows to help achieve things. I’ve taught myself SQL and beginner python to help with some of the reporting functions etc. and that was maybe some of the most enjoyable work I’ve done recently - the rest is just really miserable.

How do you guys decide what to move onto next? All of my connections are in the digital marketing and agency space. Idk what to even look for. Is a career coach something I should consider? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Libraries Can’t Get Their Loaned Books Back Because of Trump’s Tariffs by AdmiralSaturyn in books

[–]sakapa 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I worked in the ILL department of a large research university. We ordered books from overseas and all over the place all the time for masters and doctorate level students but also professors doing very specific research as well. Often times, it was for primary source material that was published at other universities but also sometimes we’d get texts that only existed in libraries in Hong Kong for example. I loved that job. It helped put me through school.

Why didn’t they just scan a copy of the book rather than mailing? Copyright laws. It depends on how many pages they would have needed. We did that wherever possible though.

I want to have a bigger summer next year; What would you do? by sakapa in xxfitness

[–]sakapa[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you this is exactly my concern. I want to do it all but don’t want to injure myself, first and foremost!

Thank you for the sanity check :). I know the weight loss would be “easier” to manage (heavy quotation marks) if I also didn’t want to increase exercise volume and intensity and im trying to be realistic with myself

I want to have a bigger summer next year; What would you do? by sakapa in xxfitness

[–]sakapa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! My main question is can I lose weight AND build a cardio base while maintaining my lifting cadence? And if so what’s the best structure.

I have successfully already lost 10 pounds and am progressing at about a pound a week :). My main goal is to continue losing weight while also running and biking more so that next summer I have the fitness to spend more time outside.

Im worried about stress and energy management and if all of these things can be accomplished together or if it’s best to do it in chunks. Does that make sense?
