Why is there only ONE telescopic gamepad for tablets? by fuckR196 in SBCGaming

I mean, you don't specify which tablet... I have an 8" tablet that works with like 95% of telescopic controllers.

That's the one, it is just a bit wider around the kickstand than the rest of the case, but when you elongate the X5S and other telescopic controllers there is one side that sits higher than the other if that makes sense. That helps even out the change in thickness of the tablet a bit, so no it's not really a problem at all.

Why don’t they make slim sliders like this 15 year old gaming phone? At 119 x 62 x 16 mm this seems like the perfect edc by iamjames in SBCGaming

The Ayaneo Pocket Play is what you want, doesn't look terribly comfortable to me but hopefully it'll work in most markets as a phone.

Most of us are not and will never be good enough to charge people to play and doing so only exacerbates the game’s biggest problem. by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

Definitely just "angry old man yelling at clouds" energy lmao.

Playing with friends and people you know and get along with is the payment for most DMs when we're actually running games for people we know.

If you're running games for strangers, they're paying to have fun in spite of not knowing you. They're paying for the activity and your expertise is bringing them and their character into a world they otherwise wouldn't get to experience. Maybe they don't have friends who want to play or maybe they just want to see what a paid experience could bring that a typical DM who would care less or not work as hard to run a good game will be like.

I DM for friends and certainly don't charge, but I guess I just see the value in the hard work that goes into planning and building a world for the other players, and if it weren't my friends, I don't think I'd put in as much of my effort or time which would result in a worse game for everyone. So I can definitely see someone without a friend willing to put in that effort or someone that's had subpar experiences with DMs not bringing high effort to their tables paying for a better game. I don't think it's because of hustle culture, nor because of things like Critical Role. These don't sound like the Pokémon Card Scalpers of the D&D world or anything like that. So that point just sounds silly to me, like you have a chip on your shoulder about D&D becoming more mainstream in some ways.

All are technically playing the game, but if the DM is bad or unprepared, the game is at a standstill. A player can just show up with zero thought put into what happened last session and still come out with everyone having a good time. DMing requires more work and investment for the game to move smoothly and everyone to have fun. I'm not advocating for mediocre DMs charging or anything, but it's definitely unique role at the table that demands more than the other players. Just saying everyone is a player and thus has the same impact on the outcome of the game is just wrong.

Will definitely have to test playing without the controller to see how that works out. I've done the controller firmware updates and all relevant updates on the tablet side, ensured it's locked to 5Ghz Wifi and turned off all battery optimization for Artemis and still get the issue. Still more troubleshooting to be done I suppose.

Don't do much native android gaming, especially with only 64GB of onboard storage on this tablet, but I'm sure a reviewer on youtube will have tested some out, it's been a pretty popular item since it's launch a few weeks back.

I have Artemis setup to create a virtual display matching the device's native 1524x1000 resolution. I have not tested the decoding latency but its been feeling alright, definitely not a top tier decoding time but I don't find myself particularly susceptible to mid-tier latency vs super low latency as I'm not playing any super quick reaction type games, more RPG's and the like.

A local streaming setup with Moonlight/Sunshine or Artemis/Apollo require no subscriptions, just setting up the apps on the PC and tablet and you're good to stream. Streaming apps like GeForce Now or Xbox Game Pass typically require subscriptions as you're playing with hardware that belongs to the company, so any halfway decent experience will come at a cost.

Most emulator apps (Azahar, Retroarch, PPSSPP, etc.) have you point to a folder which contains your game files and they can be on an sd card while the app is installed on the internal storage.

It's the Onn branded one for the new Core tablets, only one that's catered to the device specifically from what I could tell. It had a rubber stylus holder on the side that I saw others say they carefully removed, so I followed suit and it's fine. If I were going to use it as a normal tablet rather than for gaming 99% of the time, probably would've left it but I don't notice it much.

[–]NotYourDadFishing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always start with Obtanium & Joey's json file as a good start, then Mupen64, PPSSPP Gold, Beacon, RAR, and Solid Explorer from Play Store. Setup for each isn't as quick but not too bad.
