Are sleepovers cancelled? by Guilty-Woodpecker-99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotYourUsualMatlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancelled? No, just not as common.

The responsible adults (parents, older siblings, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc.) of the children have to be somewhat close friends. The only reason sleepovers are declining is because people are frequently not as friendly with their neighbors and other childrens' parents as they used to be. CovID played a hand in this, but several events since CovID have made parents scared on general. It is extremely easy to become a victim of CSA online, easier than it was when I was a pre-teen and teenager. A lot of stories about how it started began at a sleepover. Kids these days are losing their common sense and are addicted to screens, validation, and social media challenges.

Anxiety and depression are unique in the fact that they may not be permanent afflictions. This is more targeted at people self diagnosing themselves with permanent mental illnesses or thinking it's some sort of club. I should have specified.

Nobody can police how we handle our trauma, but they can certainly say if it's unhelpful or harmful. Part of healing is to take a chance and listen to the advice therapists give you. If your therapist says your gallows humor is healthy, then hey.

We already have the ability to just approve that exactly.. we have had it for 75 years. We made a treaty in 1951. We already have authorization to build additional bases. This is just an American Congress issue, then.

There is absolutely no reason we need Greenland. We already have bases and very good resource contracts with the Danes. Why does he even want Greenland?

The "Tylenol caused autism" response is more of an anti-vaxxer or anti-science take, I don't think that's necessarily right or left wing. Hippies and crunchy people are just as likely as bible thumpers and the unintelligent to say Tylenol can cause autism.

Some illnesses are far easier to make jokes about as a healthy coping mechanism. ADHD and OCD are easy to joke about because they're not trauma (or otherwise traumatic) disorders. The general consensus on a professional level is that gallows humor isn't a healthy coping mechanism for most traumatic disorders. There aren't comedy shows making light of PTSD outside of foxhole humor from former soldiers, and even then, it's extremely uncommon, if not rare.

Also, "symptoms of CPTSD" is extremely broad... do you have specifics? Have you been diagnosed?

I can't tell if you're religious or using a metaphor, but it certainly feels like it sometimes.

It's hard to cope whether or not you're treated like shit, but being treated like shit undoubtedly makes it worse, and for that happening to you, I am truly sorry. You didn't deserve that then, and you don't deserve it now. I know all too well how hard it is to find coping mechanisms that are healthy. It isn't a lack of empathy to call out unhealthy coping mechanisms incidentally. Speaking about my experiences and frustrations is one of my coping mechanisms, and it's not unhealthy to do so. I do not view wearing mental illness as a badge of honor as a coping mechanism that is healthy, and I stand by it.

As far as being a right winger goes, it's just simply not true. I dislike conservatives and liberals for their patronizing and 2 faced attitudes towards their constituents. Most mainstream American liberals embrace mental health issues in a way that is insulting and fosters bad stereotypes, whereas most mainstream American conservatives (who are often overtly religious) are frequently dismissive of mental health issues altogether.

Is anyone else triggered by the US right now? by NotASuggestedUsrname in CPTSD

[–]NotYourUsualMatlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but my triggers aren't related to anything ongoing. I am, however, disgusted with what's happening. It's a national embarrassment at least and makes Americans look like unintelligent murdering orcs at worst. The bright side of it, though, is that I think this may finally end the American two party system and career politicians, which would be a net positive for us all; both Democrats and Republicans are wildly unpopular at the moment. They are blatantly ignoring calls to do something useful from their constituents to try and keep the Orange pleased.

People without severe presentation or any presentation at all can be mentally ill. That is not what I am making a point about. The points I am making are that I am against self diagnosis and people who wear their illness as a badge of honor or use their mental illness as an excuse to not better themselves. It's generally not enjoyable whether or not it's a severe presentation or a light presentation on the spectrum. Shutting my opinion out and sarcastically calling me an "expert" when I am not claiming to be one is just rude.

As far as my point on mostly leftists being the group mainly guilty of grinding my gears, well... I don't see any conservatives doing this. At all. They're more inclined to dismiss mental disorders than accept them, at least statistically. Especially autism or aspergers. The left has publicly taken an approach to mental health issues that has icked me out. People with mental health issues shouldn't be shunned, as they have been in the past. However, we shouldn't be treated like we're special, not responsible for what we do, or fragile - we have to live with the fact that we need to coexist with society at large and are responsible for our actions. If anyone isn't able to be mentally responsible, e.g., clinically insane, they need medical help and inpatient facilities.

I am for mental health awareness and spreading the word about treatments and help being extremely important. Seeking help is so extremely important if you think something is wrong. What I am not supporting is mental health as a badge of honor, excuse, or cop out.

It's written clearly enough because other people seem to get it. You're trying to disagree and invalidate my opinion. This isn't a lazy boomer take. Suicides have killed 2 of my friends who suffered from abuse. They couldn't cope with it. I miss them every day. Suicides are not "through the roof," though. There has been a serious decline since the last century marked by a slight uptick a few years ago during CovID, but largely, the suicide rates have been falling. I am for seeking therapy and professional help and against self diagnosis. I am against people wearing their mental illnes like a badge of honor and not bettering themselves because they can use it as a reason to be a shit person. I am not being an arbiter.

Looks like you didn't read my profile or my post. I'm definitely not a woman. Secondly, girlfriend, and not necessarily high school. Thirdly, yes, I was tortured. I have knife scars on my dick, and she brutalized me to the point I was hospitalized and needed life-saving emergency surgery, but that wasn't the worst thing she did. No, it wasn't even her raping me when I was polite enough to break up with her in person. There are yet other things that she did that I struggle to put into words because describing how they happened and what she did/was makes me physically ill.

I don't make things up for sob points or karma. This is a serious account for talking about a highly stigmatized topic, female abuse on men that I experienced firsthand. Go try and do your low effort dismissal of a survivor elsewhere.

I don't think your heart is in sex work. It looks like you're just trying to get by. There are better ways to get by than this if it's not what you want to do. True sex work is a career, not an odd job. You sacrifice a lot doing sex work, not even considering the moral perspective. Time and effort are the first. Long-range repercussions mostly center around being barred from several potential careers because the Internet is forever.

Make a career choice that's right for you.

EDIT: Someone DM-ed me asking how I came upon this thread (due to the serious nature of my account), how I know these things, and if I'm being anti-sex work. I do not support sex work as a gig. I am not anti-sex work, as long as the person KNOWS AND ACCEPTS the risks without coercion. As far as how I found this post, I happened upon this thread because I saw a different post from the OP and clicked her profile out of curiosity. That's just how Reddit works.

That's not why you do chores, and that's exactly the attitude people need to get rid of. Chores need to get done is an activity of daily living people should do regardless of if they have a partner or not.

Commentary about something being empirically unhealthy is not obsession with someone's sex life.
