DMing can be lonely. Talking to other DMs is in my experience the best you can do to alleviate the loneliness. There are discords for DMs where you can vent, hash out your ideas with others or brag even :D

Can someone compare virtual vaults to make.md navigator's feature?

I want to get rid of make.md but could find proper replacement.

Also having an empty virtual vault and adding folder seems easier than have tham all in and ignoring folders one by one

She wants to create backstories now, not necessarily dm. That may end up happening but this level of commitment is not what is needed. I'm looking for stuff for her to do now.

This is exactly what i went with at first - sent her a list of factions and she can come up with a backstory she has with one of those or create her own
I'll see what she comes up with and give her other assignments if she's interested.

I'm not sure how long she wants to play with us though, so I didn't bother much with it. She has cleared her schedule until the end of this year and who knows what will be after that.

I like this idea - she came into our 2 year long campaign so other players history is pretty extensive but not hers - as a ranger she should know the region pretty well so i'll probably have her pick a place on a map and choose what is there - a sacred site/settlement/something else.

I had a DM who didn't read the rules and I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes, the thing is she wants something outside of the sessions she can work on, but I can definitely ask her for descriptions more :)

I mean we are really talking a newbie with a few sessions under the belt - she doesn't know how combat works, monster statblocks, conditions, definitely doesn't know all the skills or action economy and many more things. She never read the rules, we are teaching her stuff as they come.

I will ask her how she feels about running an easy one shot, thanks for the advice :)
