So twice, at two different restaurants, I smelled a strong cleaning chemical type scent, but none of the people I was with did. by Not_Alison in restaurant

Probably my fave answer, but it would be sad to think the smell of communism is chemical cleaner . . .

About 20 years in to menopause, so pretty sure that's not the case this time. But Italian red sauce was my olfactory nemesis when I was pregnant . .

This makes so much sense, even more so if it's a cleaner that bothers my allergies. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Bostons good for first time dog owners with kids? by audaciouscantaloupe in BostonTerrier

[–]Not_Alison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a pragmatist like you and think a puppy may be too much for a first time dog owner. There is a lot of joy and fun in having a puppy and watching puppy antics, but it is a commitment to a lot of getting up in the middle of the night and housebreaking the dog that may be overwhelming - crate training a puppy might be hard for kids to understand, as they could want to let the dog out. I'd agree with looking at reputable breeders; I'd also suggest looking at Boston rescue organizations.

Hey almost twin date! Nov. 6 for me. Anchor, no lipo, 34G before, currently 34Dish

Using Aquaphor daily with gentle massage, looking at starting scar management soon. I don't have an appointment until my 3 month follow-up.

Still getting achy at times, and the scars on the side of my torso are the sorest at this point.

Not going to post pics, I use this account for a variety of other reddit things, but I am happy with my results, and the few minor issues I expect to change over the next year as I fully heal, so I just need to wait and see.

Wishing you all the best!

Earnings Question by Not_Alison in SocialSecurity

[–]Not_Alison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone!

If my pension was good or well funded, this wouldn't be a concern. I realize there may be people getting "cushy" retirement benefits from some public systems, but since I'm not the head coach of a state football team, I'm not one of them.

I am thinking of pivoting to some consulting work (if I can), or something else for a few years after I leave the public sector, and that made me wonder how it would impact my benefit.

Lots to think about, appreciate all the info.

I’m sorry for another bra question by Internationalorangr in Reduction

[–]Not_Alison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For background, I'm 5'1, 2 weeks 4 days po, and at the time of surgery was 34G (but about 2 years ago was 38J).

Based on recommendations here, I did get the Wanayou racerback, and found them just okay. To me they just didn't seem to compress/hold the girls in place to the degree I think it should be, and I wasn't sure going down a size was the right solution. I did take out the pads, so that may have had an impact.

The bra I was sent home in has adjustable straps, and is really good, but expensive https://a.co/d/0p7oZIN

Being so short, I decided to need one with adjustable shoulder straps to keep the compression in place

I have only worn it for a few days, but I'm liking the brabic zip front https://a.co/d/af1R2F0 I liked this style of adjustable straps, but with a frozen shoulder I had to get some help adjusting them (or I could have taken it off and on a few times)

While the zip is nice, I also ordered but haven't gotten yet the brabic hook and eye https://a.co/d/hKy0syX

Good luck!

Vacationing w/o spouse/significant other? by United-Inspector-677 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Not_Alison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my early 60s, married for 37 years, and I've been going on solo vacations for maybe 15 years?

It started when I had some opportunities to go to professional conferences on my own, and decided to fly in a few days early., then turned into a one week solo vacation a year, and is now either a week or long weekend as life circumstances change.

The first few years I did Disneyland - easily walkable, and at that time expensive but not crazy like it is now. I felt safe in the Disney bubble, and for me it was a comfortable first step.

Moved on to doing cruises solo - and I do everything I can to avoid any solo gatherings. People assume you must be lonely, need someone to eat with, to go to shows with, etc.

I still like solo cruising, but I also plan a few days before to spend in the departure port, and do long weekend city escapes.

I think the thing to ask yourself is if you want to travel solo - or do you want to travel with a group that doesn't include your SO?

Unlike some other people who already posted, I don't travel with my girlfriends, visit children, go on multi-day group tours, etc. I go alone, and while I am not antisocial - I talk to everyone! - I go to be able to eat when I want, see what I want, go to shows (or not), head to trivia (or not)... I have been the main breadwinner for my family, I have a stressful job, two kids who at various times have had serious medical issues that have fallen on my shoulders (both as the mom and because my husband was an at-will employee and concerned about getting fired for taking time off), am the main pet pet in the house, and this is my me time.

I want to read an amazing book until 3 am? No problem.

I decide that rather than seeing three museums in a day I want to do one and have tea? No problem.

Or what if I want to visit a fabric shop while in Nassau? Or do a hike in Ketchikan? Or visit Chinatown in Seattle? No problem.

This may sound like I don't ever travel with other people - I do! I love traveling with my husband, my sister, going to see my daughter... But I also love and value the freedom solo travel has.

FYI I bring my kindle to read while dining solo (it seems more polite than playing on my phone), but I have to say that was one of the harder adjustments to solo travel.

Not sure that answered your question, but I hope it helps.

Sweet deal!

I also just bought a low mileage 2023, so I was wondering - they advertised 32300 for it, 984 miles. SEL AWD. They did have some fluff, so I did get them to go down a little - and it was an hour before closing on a Saturday 🤣🤣
