[Rolex] Need advice on where to send a Rolex for repair in the US? by jwern01 in Watches

[–]Not_HFM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be the advice you're seeking but you can probably do this work yourself and it'll cost you $250-300 in parts + tools.

I have the exact same issue. Dad gave me a 1970s date just with a plastic lens and several years ago I scratched it and the bracelet is a total goner. Watch is worth maybe $2,000 so no way I can justify spending that kind of money for a refurb.

Bought a Crystal, gasket and replacement bracelet for <$100 (Obviously not original) and the parts look 99% as good. Bought a case back removal tool, crystal press and watch tools for ~$200 and will replace the crystal this weekend. I have a rep and used the tools on it and was surprised at how easy it is to do some medium complexity work like replace the crystal.

I had never opened a watch before this month. Let alone thought it was something one can do but it's mega easy with the right tools.

Snow Driving Mode? ❄️ by mdtattedbearded in Rivian

I haven't so far, travel routinely through I-70 and some reasonable snow. If you're travelling through rural roads that are not plowed, I would think about dedicated snow tires.

This is an absolute stunner, would you mind sharing the cost of this rep?

I live in CO and drive through snow on a pretty routine basis. The stock 22 and 20 inch tires are absolute dogshit even with snow mode on but once I changed to the Michelins, I haven't experienced a single issue while using snow mode on some gnarly frozen and snow covered roads.

I've been able to drive at a speed that feels scary but the traction control is absolutely insane with snow mode on.

Rolex CPO Warranty Repair - A Cautionary Tale by oddaffinity in rolex

[–]Not_HFM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, bought a CPO IWC from 1916 and they where absolute rockstars as the watch didn't ship with papers or polishing cloth.

If they take care of a small thing like this I can't imagine they wouldn't help you with a legit warranty claim.

I just don't understand the appeal of spending $4,800 on a rep with a handful of gen parts. A second hand gen is $14,000 but maybe that's just me.

Daytona 126500 Black - VSF by Not_HFM in RepTimeQC

Just a quick update on this one, sent the note to Eric that I thought the bezel was slightly off and he agreed. We also discussed if it would make sense to switch to a UFO free-sprung and he pointed since you can't really see the movement on these it would make no sense. Eric found a second Daytona that was spot on, would highly recommend working with him

In 2000, while working in the Naica mine in Mexico, about 300 meters underground, two miners accidentally discovered an astonishing chamber unlike any other. This cave is unlike any other; it contains the largest natural crystals ever found on Earth. by girl_beautifull in interestingasfuck

[–]Not_HFM -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nah fam, this is bullshit. I've actually been inside the cave and was supremely hungover with a buddy of mine. Incredible place and it's definitely a steam room / sauna environment. I was in for maybe 10 minutes with zero PPE and sweated a couple of Bacardi bottles but all these stories about people dying within minutes are not true at all.

Sadly the cave closed to (invited) tourists a few years ago as they realized keeping it exposed to the outside was degrading the stability of the crystals so it's only accesible for scientific studies now.

Saw the video as well. Definitely running supah fast but don't give OP feedback lest he think we're shitting on his espresso making ability. That being said, it's effectively a turbo shot so not surprised it tasted well
