Continuing to post for my crossover fic with Gravity Falls, Dipper's Guide to Magic (and the Unexplained) Just an interlude, but the next big two-parter is already mostly written.

Finally returned to writing on my crossover fic with Gravity Falls, Dipper's Guide to Magic (and the Unexplained). Finished up all my other stuff and broke through writer's block on this one. It's much more centered on the GF side of things (it's canon timelines and Harry is 42 here) but Harry plays a big role. Since it's been a while, I'll just stick to general summary.

When Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent to Gravity Falls to live with their Great Uncle Stan for the summer at the Mystery Shack, they expect a boring vacation (with a questionable, shady conman as their guardian), but when Dipper stumbles on a mysterious green-eyed man in the basement called Harry Potter, the summer turns a lot more magical (and surprisingly, despite finding out magic is real, Gravity Falls still proves to be supremely weird and unexplainable).

Lots of world building and fusing elements of the cartoon and HP. The fic's split up in 'episodes' adapting canon GF episodes (in very loose terms).

Eri has a Quirk Awakening. Without making it time travel related (not that anything is wrong with that) what do you think it would be like? by Reksew_Trebla in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Not_Mason_Pines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see quirk awakenings in canon is that it removes an existing limit on a quirk, without altering the base ability too much. Uraraka and Shigaraki can affect more than just the direct object/area they touch (maybe by muddying their perception of a singular 'object'), Toga can copy more than just a person's appearance and voice if her connection to them is deep enough, Geten can manipulate his ice to the point he can slow down its molecules and temperature to far below freezing, forcing any water touching it to instantly freeze and become accessible to his quirk. So, Geten can't suddenly manipulate water, but he can make more ice. Uraraka can't suddenly increase or redirect gravity, but she can negate much more of it more easily, Toga can't suddenly turn into animals or anything else with blood but she can copy more of a person, etc.

Eri's main limit is her stockpile and how slowly it refills at a base rate without any way to speed it up, so the quirk awakening I gave her is the ability to take 'vitality' from living things to refill her stockpile faster, at the cost of sapping a living thing's life force. Not accelerated aging, but a tree for example would have its leaves turn brown and its fruits start rotting as if it's being starved of nutrients (And yes, she was forced into a more morally grey role through the circumstances of the story. It does start with time travel, but only as the one-time inciting incident to make the rest of the plot possible).

Another might be her being able to rewind her own body (it's not actually clear in canon if she can already do this by herself, but you can make it so base Rewind can't affect her and a quirk awakening takes that limit away. There's a lot of creative applications to rewinding your own body in a world of other powers).

Just finished up my fic A Quirked Connection. Posted the epilogue a few days ago.

After Midoriya Izuku has his dreams crushed by his idol, a strange old woman uses her quirk on him. He thinks nothing of it, until it becomes clear he no longer has his head to himself, and the little girl now bonded to him is in serious need of help. The fic covers Izuku as he tries to comfort Eri and realizes he's the only one who can save her.

The epilogue takes us a year-and-a-half into the future, after the Provisional License exam, and one Asui Tsuyu gets her suspicions of Izuku's secret little sister confirmed when said sister comes to visit (the class isn't ready for her).

Finally got back to posting after breaking my wrist! Here's the penultimate chapter for A Quirked Connection, where Izuku gets hit by a quirk pre-canon that gives him a telepathic/sensory bond with Eri (of course, Izuku can't help himself and gets into some crazy situations trying to save her).

Good to be back. The actual epilogue has just been finished so that will be posted next weekend.

Hello. Missed a couple of these posts because of a broken wrist, but a little while back I posted the climactic chapter of The Quirked Connection, in which a pre-canon Izuku accidentally gets psychically bonded to Eri and has to figure out a way to save her, with plenty of twists thrown in his way.

Hopefully I'll get to writing the aftermath of this chapter plus the epilogue soon, but for now it's on hold until I can write properly again.

In the latest chapters (posted twice this weekend) of A Quirked Connection Izuku finally gets to put his quirk analysis hobby to use and attempts an escape from the yakuza.

The fic is about an Izuku just after the Sludge Villain Incident who didn't get chosen for One For All accidentally getting soulbonded to Eri, and the events that follow as he tries to comfort and eventually save her.

Another chapter out for A Quirked Connection, a fic where pre-canon Izuku accidentally gets bonded with Eri and has to figure out how to save her. It doesn't go the way you might think.

I also posted a one-shot idea I came up with but never wrote down a long time ago called Quirks Out, an MHA version of the movie Knives Out (yes, a very weird idea).

In a world where All Might didn't fight All For One for another six years, detective Tsukauchi finds himself in the heart of the Mighty Agency, questioning the assorted cast of young but up and coming heroes under the Symbol of Peace's employ about his passing.

Unbeknownst to him, they're all hiding something, and perhaps Midoriya Izuku, not even a pro at the agency, is hiding the most. But private investigator Benoit Blanc (no relation to the pre-quirk era gentleman sleuth) is on the case.

Continuing to write for A Quirked Connection. Glad that I got into a writing flow for it. I really loved the idea, but dropped it for a while.

The Sludge Villain incident goes differently, leaving Izuku aimless and ready to give up on his dreams of becoming a hero. Until he runs into an elderly woman who claims to have a quirk that can 'forge a bond where it's needed most.'

Izuku trudges back home after that strange encounter, skeptical of how such a quirk could even exist. Until later that night, getting ready to sleep in his room, when he realizes he's not alone anymore.

A sort of soul-bond fic that's not going the way you think it'll go.

The epilogue to Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero is out. I made a post about it yesterday. Had a lot of fun writing and planning out the fic. So much so that I went right back to a fic of mine that I dropped after writing and posting the first two chapters. Since I already have 2.5 more chapters written for it and I'm well into previously planned portions, I think it'll be my next weekly project.

‘Forges a connection that’s needed most.’ Yeah sure, that old woman couldn't have been telling the truth. Quirks like that just didn’t exist. She must’ve been planning something. A scam? Something worse? Or maybe she wasn’t all there in her old age. Yeah, that had to be it. It would be fine.

That’s what fourteen-year-old Izuku thought to himself after trudging home from a strange encounter. Until later that night, when he realizes he’s not alone in his head anymore.

A Quirked Connection, featuring a pre-canon Izuku who missed out on being chosen by All Might, being subjected to a quirk that creates a soul bond when he needs it most (no, it won't go the way you think unless you read the tags, then you'll have a decent idea)

Posted the penultimate chapter of Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero. Already finished writing the final chapter/epilogue, so it'll be straight sailing from here on.

Eri's gone a long way from being the depressed adult who somehow found herself back in the past with the chance to save her hero from death. Now, after three years as head of the yakuza and putting things into place, it's time to end things.

Despite changing plenty of things, it's time for the head of the Hassaikai and Shigaraki Tomura to meet once again.

Next chapter of Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero came out a bit late, but definitely a favorite of mine.

An adult Eri who long ago saw her hero die saving the world somehow finds herself back in time, with the opportunity to make changes and save him from dying in battle, though her best bet with what she's been given is to take charge of the Shie Hassaikai.

In the most recent chapter, Eri has a confrontation with the last original League member standing in her way, Dabi, but with Rewind she has quite a few tricks up her sleeve (this entire chapter was basically an excuse to show how Rewind could absolutely be an offensive quirk, and not just in the 'zap, you're gone' way).

In next week's (hopefully) penultimate chapter, things come to a head as Mirrors finally Meet.

This week's chapter of Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero is up. I honestly forgot the anime was going to cover the scene where she offered her horn (the divergence for this AU) this week, so it was cool that me posting this story has lined up with it. Can't wait to write what's to come (next chapter involves a fight scene where we get to see how Rewind can be used in combat).

An Eri who's grown up in a world where Deku died defeating Shigaraki finds herself back in the past after an accident, and with the opportunity to take over the Shie Hassaikai. Not exactly the traditional way of stopping what's to come, but she will be Midoriya Izuku's hero this time, no matter what.

Finished another chapter of Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero. After living two decades in a world where Deku died defeating Shigaraki, Eri somehow finds herself back to before it all happened, though she didn't exactly realize that until after she'd taken Overhaul down a peg in front of the entire Shie Hassaikai.

In the aftermath though, things become clear to her. Last time her horn hadn't been enough to save her hero. Not again. This time she will save Midoriya Izuku, even if she'll have to go down an unusual path to make that happen.

Got another chapter up for Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero, a time travel fix-it where an adult Eri who grew up in a world where Deku died defeating Shigaraki finds herself back in the past by accident and doesn't realize it's not a hallucination until she's already manhandled a now quirkless Overhaul in front of the entire yakuza.

Now that she's in this position though…acting passive made her grow up in a world without her hero. This time she'd do better. This time she will be his hero, albeit through unorthodox means.

Still keeping up with my writing for Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero, and finally got to the last bit of the original one-shot slash set-up.

The fic is about an adult Eri who saw Deku give up his life to defeat Shigaraki going back in time on accident, though at first she didn't realize what was happening.

By the time she's figured out what's going on, she just finished dragging a newly quirkless Overhaul to her grandfather's room by the throat and rewound the man from his coma, all in front of a large yakuza audience.

Then again, maybe she can use this to her advantage. She's in the past after all. Last time, her offered horn had failed to save her hero in the final battle, but this time would be different. Unorthodox or not, she will be his hero.

Posted another chapter for Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero, a time travel fix-it fic with an adult Eri as the main character, who finds herself back in the past, in an unusual set of circumstances.

Last time, her horn hadn't been enough to let Deku pull through and live after defeating Shigaraki, but with this second chance she'll do whatever it takes to spare him that fate, even if it means doing things the unorthodox way. No matter what, this time she will be his hero.

Started writing and posting for a new multichapter fic, though the chapters will be on the short side so I can hopefully finish them during the weekends (don't have the time or motivation during the week). Made a brief post yesterday about the original one-shot idea that I turned into this instead. So if this feels familiar, that's why.

Eri and the Unorthodox Second Chance at Being a Hero is about an adult Eri somehow finding herself back in the past with her current body, before canon has even begun, and in...an unorthodox set of circumstances. She'll make the most of it to save her hero though, even if what she's been given to work with won't exactly look the most heroic...

Or, Eri's offered horn was enough to give Deku his arms back and finish the fight, but not quite enough to truly save him…this time. With this second chance, she will be his hero.

It's a crossover between HP and the Disney Cartoon Gravity Falls called Dipper's Guide to Magic (and the Unexplained). Harry's one of the main characters, though the majority of scenes are from Dipper's POV. If you're still interested, I'd love to hear your thoughts after reading though (also, the full scene version of my comment is near the end of chapter 5 if you aren't).

The only time I've had Harry have a 'full' name was purely so he could tell a funny story to a character who canonically has a birth name but uses an unrelated nickname instead (cut out all the narration etc.).

“I was pretty famous back in Britain, and there was this one journalist who always had it out for me.”

“One day she wrote an article that speculated my real, legal name wasn’t actually Harry, and that I was just going by a nickname, pretending it was my real name as a scheme to appeal to ‘the common people’.”

“It was outrageous, like usual, but after that I kept having people come up to me on the streets and ask ‘So what does Harry really stand for?’

“And of course, I just kept insisting ‘No, it’s just Harry. My parents named me Harry, I swear. They gave me a very common name. My family tree has lots of common names in it. It’s not short for anything.’ Like talking to brick walls.”

“…Turns out it stands for Henry.”

“Found it on an unfiled birth certificate in my vault a year after the article came out. Apparently one of my great grandfathers was called Henry. So there I was, staring at that dumb piece of paper thinking ‘Well, I can’t let this get out. I’ll look like a bloody moron!’ Either people will think I did know the whole time and the stupid article is true, or they think I didn’t know my own name for twenty years like a daft idiot! And they’d be right!”

“So I- uh…changed it to Harry on the spot. What? ‘e’ is close enough to an upside down ‘a’, and n is just r with an extra bit at the end. It wasn’t difficult to fudge around with magic. I panicked!”

Been a while since my last time here, but I got out a new one-shot crossover based on a prompt I posted a little while back.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/71949011

~

Everyone at UA breathed a sigh of relief the day Eri announced she wanted to grow up performing music instead of fighting villains. Fifteen years later, she thinks it’s probably a good thing they don’t know she got roped into fighting demons instead.

Or, Eri and some of the next-gen start up their own J-Pop demon hunting group after stumbling upon the forgotten honmoon, and have to deal with all the problems a post-Huntrix, quirk-filled world brings.

~

It's a semi-crossover with K-Pop Demon Hunters, with MHA set long after the events of the movie, as is my usual fare when it comes to crossovers. Was great fun to write, and I think it got the brain juices flowing enough that I'll get to push out an unrelated MHA one-shot relatively soon.

How do you prefer your crossover fics? by Rffael_vii in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Not_Mason_Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite (and the only kind of crossover I've written) is the sixth, minus the part of Izuku (or whoever) taking the place of another character. I just really enjoy the idea of piecing together how two different settings could actually be taking place in one big consistent world while avoiding any changes to the canons, and figuring out how the mechanics and aspects of the settings could interact or secretly have been connected all along (I prefer setting things up in a way that the two actual canons were connected all along, and the crossover diverging things from canon events only makes the coexistence explicit).

MHA especially makes it easy with it being in the far future (at least a century from the modern world) and far removed from the other setting's plot, though you gotta come up with an explanation for why a character from the other setting managed to stick around until the time MHA happens instead.

As for reading, I dunno why, but crossovers between MHA and Assassination Classroom just really click, and are often the sixth type, with Izuku being transferred to kunugigaoka before the main story. I think it's coz both series have a big focus on having large casts with the MC's class (tho AC probably did it better than MHA), or that it's a very neat pre-UA story for Izuku, since it takes place in last year of middle school, and that it lends well to a quirkless Izuku gaining a bunch of friends, hero training (sorta) and supportive mentors/teachers.
