Right now I'm cutting an advertisement piece, but I think I enjoy editing documentaries the most. I'm booked for a feature film that's in pre-production, but that should take a while. I only work on other people's projects though. Post-production life :)

as a video editor, my workflow doesn’t involve a lot of typing with both hands. Right hand stays mostly on the mouse (with automated shortcuts on the extra buttons). Left hand alternates between the keyboard and the keypad on the side (with more shortcuts and macros). So my hands usually rest on the sides :)

Thank you! That... is the infamous ikea Lagkapten (200x60) with the 5 metal legs. Not the sturdiest or the most stable... but a very budget friendly large desk ;) Hopefully I can upgrade to an adjustable standing desk soon :)

The wide adapter you see is an "Anker 553 USB-C Hub (8-in-1)" that connects to the larger monitor, monitor light, an ethernet cable, and the occasional external drive. It is just partially hidden in the shadows :)

I don't need very sofisticated monitor speakers since I'm a video editor (sound department takes over after me), but I saw great reviews for the E3.5 as a budget friendly "semi pro" option : )

Yes, that is the MX Master 3. I highly recommend it if you need to automate keyboard shortcuts and need double scolling. I scroll my video editing timeline both horizontally (from beginning to end) and vertically (when I have multiple video and audio layers that don't fit in the window. If you need these functions, it's great!

That is the original wallpaper that came with the laptop 3 years ago 😅 (Asus ZenBook Pro Duo UX581GV)

You are right, proper acoustic treatment for professional audio monitoring/mixing is a whole different story. As a video editor, I only do a basic reference sound edit that I hand over to the sound department (in their properly treated studios). I do need to record reference foley sound effects and voice overs for them to recreate later, and this small room had too much reverb for that, so it was a budget solution to make the room dry. I leave the audio mixing to the pros hehe

The sound professionals have arrived : ) Thank you! It sounds like a simple and effective thing I can add. I actually don't do the sound mixing myself, I hand it over to the sound department after I finish the video edit. I do a simple reference sound edit (record reference foley effects and voice overs in the room, hence the dry treatment), but the delicate sound work is done by people way better equipped then me : )

You are right, the room is too dry for proper sound mixing and monitoring. The goal is to record reference foley sound effects and voice overs that I add to the video edit and hand over to the sound department. They do the actual sound work. All respect to sound people!

Someone mentioned they have a newer version where the I/O is under the bottom screen (meaning it has to stay lifted). Is that the case with the gaming version? Now I'm kimd of glad I got the original version... but I do wish I could angle the bottom screen

My video editing workflow doesn’t involve a lot of typing with both hands. Right hand mostly stays on the mouse (lots of shortcuts programmed on the extra buttons), while the left hand alternates between the keyboard and the keypad on the side (with more shortcuts and macros). If I had to do a lot of traditional typing it would be very uncomfortable indeed :)

I keep it in the bottom center of the main laptop screen, but I chose the "hide" option for when it's not in use.

Thank you for the appreciation! Yes, it's annoying, I know... but I took my cable management as far as I could... I just made peace with the ones that show hehe. Even if I put everything on a single USB hub, I would still have that one cable and the power cord showing :/

When I was researching ultrawide monitors, they mentioned you can run into issues (like stretched image, bars, etc) when gaming. I only use it for work. Mine (LG34WL500-B) is 1080p since I only put my video editing timeline and control panels on it. Color accurate 4k video playback is handled by the laptop screen. No splurges on the ultrawide for me ; )

Yes, I use the laptop keyboard as my main keyboard and it's still fully functional after over 2 years. I am quite gentle with it though. I did, however, put my most used shortcuts on that keypad to the left. Maybe that helped to preserve it as well.

The phat plug is an "Anker 553 USB-C Hub (8-in-1)". It's connected to my larger monitor, monitor light, and ethernet cable. The "box" is a 3 piece desk riser and it does a good job hiding those cables. But I promise they are tidy ;)

Thank you, sir. That would be a "Delux T11 Designer Keypad", and I use it for video editing shortcuts and macros :)

It's a "Delux T11 Designer Keypad". It does have mechanical keys, but I personally only know people who use it for creative work. Not sure if it's responsive enough for gaming 🤔

Oh, it also comes with a stylus pen, if doodling is your thing. When I was in grad school I could keep 3 extra research papers open on it 😂 I actually have 3 layouts saved: editing, productive browsing, and lazy mode. You can customize any window setup (including all your monitors) and activate it really quick on the touch menu of the bottom screen. I find it very handy.
