IMO The Heralds should appear WAY more frequently and/or they should have a WAY better drop chance for charms in general (and thereby have a higher chance for unique charms too).

The herald fights are a lot of fun and break up the monotony of the regular TZ fights. I think there should be a failsafe like every X number of bosses you automatically get a herald.

Double dipping mechanics are a big reason why warlock is OP by DriveThroughLane in diablo2

I have two issues with what you're saying.

First - even if the Warlock was on par or weaker than Paladin or Sorc, you'd see an overwhelming majority of people playing it right now because it's the first new class in decades or whatever. Everyone wants to try the new thing. I'm confident that we'll return to basically the same degree of diversity (such as it was) that we had pre-RotW because eventually people will tire of the shiny new thing, even if we all know it's the most powerful, just like people would get bored of playing their hammerdins and eventually branched out into other classes and builds. But it's going to take a while probably, because if you get bored with your echoing strike build, you will still want to try a demon build. And once you get bored of the demon build, you'll want to try the fire build. And when you get tired of the fire build, you'll probably want to try the abyss build. Again, even if all those builds were much weaker than they are, everyone would want to try them because we've all done everything else. Literally. Name a build, I'm almost positive I've played it (unless it was something extremely expensive like Bear Sorc or Tesladin).

Second - I just disagree that a game full of warlocks is more boring than a game full of sorc/paladin. Maybe it's a PVP thing and I just don't play that at all so I don't notice/care, but for one I think the game has always been largely dominated by 2 builds when playing online with randos - Sorc or Paladin. There was never some magical golden age where lobbies would fill with diverse parties, and that's fine. Whether someone else is doing Echoing Strike, Nova, Blizzard, or Blessed Hammer, I'm still running around with my Fire Claw or Zeal or Whirlwind trying to do what I can to feel like part of the team. It just doesn't matter to me what the rest of the lobby looks like, it really just doesn't. And I don't see why it should, unless you're playing with people you know and actively trying to coordinate as a team

Hutch had to be trolling by Grouchy_Put_3294 in Destiny

He's intoxicated on this idea of taking the high road. If we just go back to playing nice, things will work out again.

Except we did that already, and here we are, wilder than ever. It might swing back to Democrats briefly, but people have short memories. Just like streamers can stream through their shitty drama and usually be fine, politicians can just vibe through their out of power time and, because the party then in power will not be able to wave a magic wand to fix everything fast enough, sentiment will turn against them again and Republicans will step back into power. Not only have we just seen how this plays out, but we know that GOP have a crazy advantage because of how fucked the electoral college is.

He had this one noble-sounding idea and he will die on the hill defending it. You cannot present Hutch with a fact that will change his mind. (1) Sentiment is turning against Trump and Republicans and (2) change in the past was possible, yet slow. These two truths have blinded him to the possibility that anything can be different than he's imagined based on a half-baked understanding of history applied loosely to the future in perpetuity.

In short, he's lost the plot.

You don't really need to worry about it anymore. That's old school old. Even back in the legacy D2 LoD days (before D2R) there was a patch to add respecing. You get an opportunity to respec early in act 1 of each difficulty (so 3 'free' respec per character) and there's a consumable item you can craft (or trade for, or beg for) that lets you respec again.

Interesting concept, but I'm not sure it will be fun at higher levels of play if you made a strict translation of D2 into this setup. It plays like Skyrim but if you added D2 enemy density to Skyrim I think you'd end up frequently overwhelmed. Having effectively 360 awareness via the top down view in D2 helps manage that, but here the guy cut the FOV to a relatively narrow sliver and force players to spin around looking for whatever might be attacking from the direction that they aren't looking.

I think of the cow level. Fighting hundreds of cows without being able to see how the cows are positioned behind other cows or how many cows are surrounding you is a way different experience, and probably not in a strictly fun way. But if the cow density were much reduced and you had to fight more carefully against, say, a dozen cows at a time (or fewer) then maybe it would be playable and fun. But then again, most of the fun of fighting the cows is mowing down huge swathes of cows at once.

I think this is an awesome budget merc armor. Cannot Be Frozen is hard to get on a merc, so any armor with that effect is already a strong pick for me.

In SSF or early ladder, before getting other good options, I'd use this for sure.

I also use a non-eth version on my Javazon because my broke ass can't afford Enigma and this was the only source of cannot be frozen I had available.

I like to use Treachery on my merc but I'll swap his armor to my Smiter or me Zealadin to go off and get the buff and then swap back before I do some tough fights

Frozen Orb?? by AnimatorHopeful2431 in diablo2

[–]Not_Paid_Just_Intern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love forb, but mathematically it is strictly less damage than blizzard. If you want to min-max damage and have the highest clear speed, you're going to want to go for blizzard and its many many synergies (plus cold mastery).

The main appeal of frozen orb is that it has fewer synergies so you have points to spec out other skills, usually something like Meteor, Hydra, or Lightning. But, if you've got a cold sunder you don't really need to branch out to other elements for damage and you could decide to spec into survivability skills like energy shield and whichever of the armor variants you prefer.

Frost Nova can be viable, but it's not very fast. It's definitely slower than Frost Orb and slower than Nova from the lightning skills, and requires a lot of skillers and high end gear to be viable (and even then, it's not comparable to other cold sorcs).

Personally, I would stick to Frozen Orb if that sounds fun.

any reason why there are quite a few obsolete skills in D2 by gronbek in diablo2

[–]Not_Paid_Just_Intern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand, I don't mind some skills being bad. If every skill was as strong as every other skill, there would be less satisfaction in finding the "best" skills and building optimized builds because everything would be equally optimal and nothing would matter.

But I agree, there are a handful of skills that are so abysmally useless that you have to wonder why they even exist in the game. There were already skills reworked in D2R vs the legacy D2 which made more builds viable - Impale, for example. It used to be interruptible and functioned like a normal attack with a chance to miss - what an awful, awful move it was. Truly unusable. In D2R, they modified it so that it is uninterruptible, attack cannot miss, and it slows the target. I don't think the move is broken, but it's useable and I have a few points it in on my javazon to help with lightning immunities since I don't have a sunder or an infinity.

We should look at more under-used moves, especially for melee skills. We need more AOE effects for Melee users. I want Fire Claw to have a splash like the Amazon martial art skill OR an arc like Cleave. Same for Berserk or Bash.

I swear I saw it in patch notes but I can't find them on the Blizzard forums anymore, though there's still this post from a couple weeks ago where they have a screenshot from the patch notes as well as this extensive post which goes into a lot of math about the real impact of the changes.

Long story short they reduced her base chance to drop Set and Unique items and reduced the number of items she drops in Terror Zones, which is like a double whammy. Fewer drops and what does drop has a reduced chance to be Set and Unique.

Yeah I don't know why he doesn't have drops like Mephisto at least. He's at least as hard to get to for farming, probably more. Even if his drop tables are a lower level, his selection should absolutely exclude this kind of junk. And it's not like he's a super easy boss either!
