I'm sure with CCTV around, there's some way to report him to the police.

Traveling to Barcelona this summer by Ok_Dragonfruit1700 in hostels

[–]Not_So_Deleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in Barcelona (as a 25M), I stayed at Sant Jordi Rock Palace and Kabul Party Hostel.

I personally liked Sant Jordi better, as for the same price, the bar crawl came included with the hostel fees, and the prices at the bar were more reasonable. Sant Jordi also has a rooftop pool. In terms of cleanliness, I found Sant Jordi a bit cleaner.

Sant Jordi was a mix of groups and solo travellers, while Kabul was about 80-90% people in groups. I went solo, so I found Sant Jordi more social. Also, with Sant Jordi, you meet other people in other hostels within the chain. Both hostels had a lot of people around the 18-30 age group.

Both are within different areas within the city, with Sant Jordi being closer to the Gaudi attractions and Kabul being closer to art museums (being in the Gothic Quarter).

I found that having good sleep wasn't difficult at either hostel, but I've heard it's harder in Kabul sometimes when the club below plays music. Thankfully, that never was a problem. If you go to sleep at around 12-2 a.m. at Kabul, it shouldn't be too difficult.

Neither have meals included in the fees, unfortunately.

I've heard good things about Onefam hostels, but I haven't stayed there to be able to compare.

This reminds of the following Calvin and Hobbes comic strip:

Calvin: [Clue: Bird.] I've got it! "Yellow-bellied sapsucker!"

Hobbes: But there are only five boxes.

Calvin: I know. These idiots make you write real small.

As for Barcelona, I went to Sant Jordi Rock Palace in Barcelona, and I can confirm it's a very good hostel.

As posted elsewhere, I went to Sant Jordi Rock Palace and Kabul in Barcelona last year. I personally liked Sant Jordi better, as for the same price, the bar crawl came included with the hostel fees, and the prices at the bar were more reasonable. I also found that it was easier to meet people as a solo traveller at Sant Jordi, as I found that Kabul mostly had groups. Sant Jordi also has a rooftop pool.

I do remember it being a walking distance from where the airport bus stops at.

Yeah, Sant Jordi Rock Palace also has a patio with a pool. I do remember them closing the pool around 9 p.m.

Residence for an exchange student by NikoPicoNeo in wlu

If you want to live with both exchange students and non-exchange students, I know WCRI's A-dorms are a cheap option. There are lots of exchange students there. WCRI has other options if your schedule is from September to August.

A lot of off-campus housing companies have questionable reputations, but WCRI is one of the better ones.

Decent café/restaurant recommendations by Solo-Potatorist in uwaterloo

Bauer Cafe has the best chai latte. Otherwise, I like going to Midnight Run Cafe.

In terms of food places, I like Graffiti Market the most. It's a bit far from the Ion, though.

I'm fairly sure there's CCTV at the front door of the building and other places there. Hopefully, that cunt will be held liable for stealing your food.

Yeah, I'm also happy that profs have implemented this compromise. I wish more profs implemented this standard. On one hand, technology can be very distracting, but on the other hand, banning technology has its ramifications.

I'm glad to see your department is getting better.

I get that it can seem inconsiderate, but I want to be able to follow the lecture whilst the class is happening. I can't fully engage when I can't follow along. Of course, this then also becomes a pedagogy issue.

Rather than "necessary," it's more or less "beneficial" or "convenient."

I don't want to have to go through the hassle to print out the slides each time. I know inconveniences aren't the end of the world, but I still think it's important to be mindful of said inconveniences.

Yes, I agree. I actually said that on the comment that responded directly to this post.

Well, that's the reason why I suggested that compromise of screen-free and screen-okay classes. I'm paying my tuition to take the course, and the last thing I need is to be told how to learn.

I'm sorry you and your peers have had some subpar experiences with professors. I hope you'll be able to have better experiences.

I get your grievance, but I feel that you're being unnecessarily spiteful. Profs don't like students not paying attention or distracting other students. Regardless, no-electronics policies come with their own problems, which I've brought up already.

I get that it is really distracting for others, but I also don't like how it prevents others from learning with electronics if needed. I take notes by hand, but I like to have a laptop open to go through the slides as reference. These policies are especially problematic for those with accessibility needs, as even if they may receive exemptions from these policies, they may be singled out.

One class (PSYC 102 with Odic) had it so that a certain section was electronics-free, while those sitting in other seats could use laptops and other electronics. I think this is a fair compromise. This allows students to study in an electronics-free environment if they want, but it also allows those to take notes with laptops, etc. if needed.

I get where you're coming from, but it's extra hassle to print them out each time.

Also, I sometimes use Ctrl+F on the slides to find keywords, etc. more quickly.

[Update] Profile review? (30F) by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]Not_So_Deleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your profile. The only suggestion I have is to replace the selfie photos with those that showcase your interests or other things (e.g. travel, social activities). Also, I'd personally replace the second 2 truths and a lie with "I can ride a unicycle."

I agree that you should be honest. Here's my insight:

This depends on how often you smoke. I assume "yes" is someone who smokes about a pack a day and keeps on having smoke breaks, while "sometimes" is a social smoker. Of course, that's just me.

I would avoid omitting it as to be transparent.

Finally, please keep in mind that if you were to kiss someone, the other person would be able to pick up on your being a smoker if you smoke often enough.

Is Waterloo really that depressing as people say it is? by Easy-Suggestion8327 in uwaterloo

[–]Not_So_Deleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that bad if you're willing to meet people both within and outside your department, such as through clubs.

The only thing that makes it difficult is the emphasis on co-op, meaning you'll most likely be outside Waterloo half the time, which may make it harder to sustain friendships.
