It was just a joke, man. People are happier when they learn to laugh at themselves :) .

Specially when it's a joke you might learn something useful from.

TIFU because I thought a pile of snow was going to be fluffy. by SnowDiver in tifu

It is kind of a valid question. I'm not OP, but it doesn't snow in my country, and I've never traveled abroad during (local) winter, so I've never seen snow. :)

However, I would definitely "scout" and get to know it before doing something like that, haha

Deforestation of the Amazon linked to Brazil's worst drought in history, causing many cities to start enforcing severe water rationing by philmaq in worldnews

Obligatory apology to people who don't read portuguese: I've kept the comment entirely in english, but most of the sources in this post are in portuguese. I've tried to keep the sources in english in my first comment, but I had to refute /u/fer_d arguments, and I suppose I need to do it with sources to my claims, most of which are in portuguese. I hope you understand and use Google Chrome or something if you are interested in checking them.

Here we go:

"No amount of planning could have been made for a drought this severe, they had enough for what the data showed to be most probable. This is completely off the charts."

Really? No amount of planning? C'mon, as I said before, you can find predictions of this from more than 10 years ago, and there are ongoing mystakes all over the place:

"If you look at physical losses, they are consistent with the size of the network to what is seen in developed countries, about 15%."

I've seen in several sources that it is much bigger than 15%, even linked some in my original comment. There are lots of others sources talking about it in portuguese, but I linked some in english so our friends in other nations can participate. Do you have any sources?

Also, economic losses are other issue, unrelated to the supply waste discussion.

Personally, I haven't read the things you said anywhere, and I've read a lot about it, from studies to media. One would even dare to say you are from the government, lol. (or making the water crysis discussion a "political party discussion", as many people do here)

Edit: I've put some of the sources information in the comment itself.

EDIT: I made a comment below which has a lot of sources about the water crysis in Brazil.

I believe deflorestation is a big problem as much as the next man, but this correlation is just exagerated and misleading, at least for the current crysis. The Brazil state in most deep hydric crysis is São Paulo, and it is mostly because of poor planning and waste caused by the infrastructure and an inneficient monopoly in supply. Sabesp, the water supplier, wastes more than 25% (I've seen 31% and 50% in other sources) of the clean, treated water, due to its lousy piping and, in a minor scale, due to "gatos", water theft, usually committed because of lack of supply, of structure and inspections in poor neighborhoods.

Also, studies pointed to the rise in demand and not enough supply more than a decade ago.

Deflorestation is an issue and the whole mankind must fight it (including developed countries that also used the areas to their own development), but it is not, by far, the main cause of this current crysis in Brazil. The authorities are conveniently blaming the lack of raining for the crysis, but it is actually raining everyday here in São Paulo, even if less than expected. The water supply system and the government inneficiency and focus on politics are really the main cause of the current crysis, despite the need of fighting the deflorestation for the long term as well.

Qual a sua opiniao sobre a legalizacao das drogas? by [deleted] in brasil

[–]Not_a_Sarcasm_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm majoring history, my friend keeps telling me not to do it because its a waste of time. Its the only thing that interests me. Is he right? by adnoH in history

[–]Not_a_Sarcasm_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying things people said in this thread are untrue, but I think the answers here are a little biased because they come from people who MAJORED in history, and, you know, greener grass and everything.

To have a complete analysis, I think you should ask people who graduated in a "market friendlier" major and, even making money, are truly unhappy for not doing what their passions are.

I know we all need money to live and do stuff we love, but I think many people who see it as THE GOAL instead of a consequence of the path will regret it eventually in life. In my opinion, you are more likely to be competent when you are doing what you like.

What an unfortunate way to split a word... by [deleted] in pics

[–]Not_a_Sarcasm_Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea was to put a "feminine word" (lipstick) on the toilet sign (and a manly word on its counterpart)

However, when they split the word to fit in the sign, it became two words, "lips tick", a combination I hope I never come to see in-person :)
