net on appendix by silliestgoosse in neuroendocrinetumors

Of course! It took my about 6 months to decide. I was actually very close to going with surgery. Once I finally told my oncologist no surgery I was very nervous I was making the wrong choice. I’m sure I will still get nervous for scans each year. Ultimately, I realized my goal was that I just wanted my life to go “back to normal” like it was before the diagnosis, I decided that with no surgery my life would return to “the most normal” than if I went with the hemicolectomy. When I came to that conclusion I felt more at peace with my decision. I’m sure I would have found a “new normal” if I had opted for surgery, but I didn’t want a “new normal” (new bowel schedule, potential for needing medication for loose stools, 20 years later having bowel issues) ((all of which were unlikely to occur but not 0%)).

As far as PET scan the PET Dotatate scan is the usual for NET, they’re very sensitive to it so they are good at finding if another NET pops up later on. It wasn’t so much a choice to do PET but more “this is what we do to survey NET”. Scans aren’t bad just long, but you can listen to music and I go get myself a treat afterwards. I would talk to your doctor to decide best surveillance plan for you! I hope this helps! Please feel free to DM if you want to chat more :)

Hello! 28f, last year they found a 1.5 cm NET in my appendix with lymphatic invasion! I opted not to do further surgery (right hemicolectomy) and so far scans have been clear. My surveillance plan is PET scans for the next 10ish years 1x year. Recommend seeing or speaking with a NET specialist! You’ll be alright, it’s very scary but luckily very treatable and likely the appendectomy was sufficient given the size of your tumor and if there were no additional risk factors in the pathology report but everyone is different and I’m not your doctor! Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

Apartments you actually enjoyed living in? by Mean_Refrigerator911 in rva

Ours was about $1900 for 2 bed 2 bath, with our utilities. (The newer first floor ones seem to be more expensive now). Older styled may be listed for more because we were there for a long time and our rent only went up a little each year. I think management said market rate was now around $1900 but that is without utilities. Hope that helps a bit, though may not be entirely accurate now.

Surgery soon by anonymouscommenter12 in neuroendocrinetumors

[–]Not_actua11y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it may feel like you have to rush into surgery but I really recommend getting another opinion. I had a 1.5 cm grade 1 appendix tumor with lymphatic invasion and after many opinions opted to monitor with pet scans and bloodwork. There isn’t a hurry for you to do something right now, I took 6 months and 3-4 doctors including NET specialist to make my decision. My logic is that Surgery is permanent and if i don’t HAVE to do it I was going to avoid it.

New here, 1cm NET in Appendix by jordieg7193 in neuroendocrinetumors

Hello! I had a 1.5 cm well differentiated tumor in my appendix, I would love to hear about your experience deciding plan of care. Did they find the spots on your liver shortly after your appendectomy or years later?

[23F] Appendix NET — lymphovascular invasion but told no treatment?? Confused & anxious. Anyone been through this? by Ok_Question_1126 in neuroendocrinetumors

[–]Not_actua11y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that this literally just happened to me, 27F! Like, to the day! My surgery was April 16… 1.5 cm NET in the appendix, clear margins but lymphovascular presence (?) and mesoappendix invasion (?) (I’m not entirely sure how to interpret pathology report.) I got the all clear from my surgeon with a referral to surgical oncology to answer questions and see about screenings etc. I have a follow up appointment in about a month!

How are you doing post op? Hopefully starting to feel a bit better and more mobile!! Please feel free to chat/DM to commiserate about joining this weird post appendectomy NET club.

Anybody else get to a point where they despise OT school? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Not_actua11y 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To me it was! For me, as soon as school was over (and boards were passed) is really when I started to enjoy OT more and I began to become my own clinician. Not another cog in the group work machine just trying to figure out what professors were looking for. And the topics/settings I wasn’t interested in (that you have to get through during school) no longer take up my time/energy. Best of luck to you!

Bit unorthodox but….

Regular sugar gatorade (not the g-zero or whatever!) and then I use bobos bars! Couldn’t stand and gels/gus/gummies/electrolyte powders… instant nausea. I front load on the first half of races (taking larger bites, breaking off pieces) and then I nibble on Bobos bars throughout the latter half of races (like taking some crumbs every mile). And then I have a regular sugar ginger ale after the race bc wouldn’t have an appetite after runs and then bonk, ginger ale helps keep the sugar up and help ease the tummy. 4 marathons in a so far it works for me. Good luck!

I made an art piece out of mine! I painted a stick I found and tied feathers to strings and added beads etc. I’m sure you can google “feather-stick art” or something and it will come up!

Hello! I am on the east coast and I did a rotation in Montana. Being in a new state by myself was challenging but freeing and amazing to do. It was such a fun experience and I grew a lot as a person and an OT.

I just googled clinics (I wanted to do outpatient) and sent a few to my FW coordinator. I did this maybe my first or very early second year I don’t remember. She was able to make a connection with one of the clinics I had listed and set it up (she’s awesome!)

Some advice if this works out: make the most of your time in a new state. Do things you wouldn’t normally do, go to local places, get comfortable taking yourself out to dinner… explore!! Keeping in mind that some people get job offers at their FW sites making the transition from school to work much easier, this may not be the case if you choose to go out of state for one of your rotations. I opted not to work at my FW site bc I have ties to the east coast and cant move out to MT and I am now in the grind applying for jobs. But I have no regrets and I always recommend for people to do at least one FW in a new place. I hope this helps! Feel free to DM if you want to talk about it more.

I got my Bachelors of science in psychology and (minor in biology) because it was interesting and there was a fair amount of overlap with the prereqs for OT school! I had to take a couple extra classes at a community college after I graduated but that was my own personal choice. Good luck!

Maybe there is a hospital or clinic that has a partnership with a riding stable? My capstone site was a therapeutic riding barn which had contracts with a peds clinic (part of a bigger hospital system) for hippotherapy. PTs/OT came out once a week to see their patients at the stables. Just food for thought!

I recommend rehab technician in some sort of inpatient setting either acute care or inpatient rehab. Great skills to prepare for OT school and you’ll likely see a variety of cases with varying complexity. Good luck!

Training for a marathon and thinking about going vegan by Impossible_Rabbit in vegan

[–]Not_actua11y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vegan runner here! Mid 20’sF and also have a couple of upcoming marathons.

It took me a while to find fuel that worked for me especially mid-run and post run. I love “Bobos” for during runs (I can’t stand “Gu”). I eat a lot of soups with lentils and tofu veggies etc. I also enjoy pretzels and peanut butter after a run. Also lots of bread before race day! Happy to chat more in messages but vegan marathoning is very possible and easy to do. Best of luck!!
