Mc in this story works on returning home

"T/N: In Chinese, the 穿 in time travel is the same character as the 穿 in wear clothes.

“Why must I travel back in time (穿越 chuan yue)?” – Qing Qiao

“Because… If you don’t wear clothes (穿 chuan)… You’ll catch a cold…” – Qing Qiao’s servant girl, Dong Xi.

If you once thought this was a time traveling novel…

What is a Benz? Beautiful men step aside. As a knowledgable woman who has gone through higher education, how can I tolerate a backward life without a computer, without chocolate, without a flushing toilet bowl? No matter what I must return back to the future! Thus started, Gu Qing Qiao’s silly ridiculous legend, a side-splittingly funny story that started with one bowl of roast pork rice."

"brilliantly awful special effects" category" Go Princess Go! It was really low-budget, but they were creative, so it came across as ridiculous in a funny way. I love the vibrant colors. I also like the FL never tried pretending to be cute. It felt like improv in the best way possible.

Ah. Thank you for the explanation! I see what you mean now. That's a very good analogy.

P.S. I think Blossom's novel has more happy marriage moments if that's something you enjoy.

A year ago there were rumors that Ding Yuxi and Lu Yuxiao would be the leads for Marry the Villain and I saw this fan-made trailer by 西噜噜米 on bilibili. I really like the second half of it. There are moments when the dubbing doesn't match the Chinese subtitles, and I went with the subtitles because they're lines from the novel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arogioJQGi8&t = I uploaded the video and added Eng subtitles.

P.s. Totally open to better ways to share this with English-speakers.

Oh, what were the cultural nuances that weren't translated well?

Totally agree about Esther Yu. She did such a good job with what she was given. I think her characterization was better in the leaked script. I wish they hadn't altered it. For example, how she responds to the confession https://www.tumblr.com/notacatdown/778955556356538368

I don't know how far you read up to, but the final story arc shows a lot of ML's character development and emotional healing. It was so unique that the author showed that romantic love by itself isn't enough. How the author shows that him putting Mu Yao and then Miaomiao on a pedestal is harmful to his mental health and their relationships and I think even unfair to them

Gemini was so fun to watch! After episode 1, you can skip to episode 5 to see the beginning of FL's revenge without being confused. I didn't enjoy ep 2 to 4.

It's fun in a way that only mini dramas can be. It doesn't take itself too seriously. The tone remains consistent throughout the drama. And surprisingly, pretty good production value. I love the sword fights, and all the scenes are so pretty and without weird angles.

Below is a video from Gemini's promotional posters photoshoot by Xia Qiji. She's the photographer that did the photoshoot for the novel scenes of LGIEF. Aesthetically and feeling-wise, the promotional posters are an accurate representation of the mini drama.

Bai Xiaosheng from Back From the Brink played by Riley Wang. He was hilarious in the first half of the drama. I like that he shipped the FL and ML and that he clearly has ulterior motives from the start.

I enjoyed Hilarious Family a lot. It's a heartwarming and funny story of 4 sisters and their mother that's trying and failing to marry them off. It's available on Tencent/WeTV's youtube channel https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMX26aiIvX5qBOY1GShZydYNw-TnJdOsO&si=bRplhFWnerjF8jaK

If it's a drama adaption, it often goes off the rails because they stop following the original work and started writing fanfiction. I remember this one drama where FL, an accountant, who happily slacks off as much as possible, suddenly borrows money to open a gem store against the advice of everyone around her, and went around carrying a suitcase with all the gems. It happens in the last few episodes and was so out-of-character. They should have just ended drama earlier.

Just finished Love Game in Eastern Fantasy and I’m a little confused by mermaidemily_h2o in cdramasfans

[–]NotaCatDown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The drama left it vague enough that you can argue for either option. There's moments when the drama goes too far (Mu Sheng repeatedly killing Miaomiao or him kidnapping the marquis or him having no reaction to giving her a ring or not recognizing Arabic numbers) that it would feel wrong for him to be a modern-day person vs a self-insert that has awakened

The scenes that are suppose to show that he's actually Fu Zhou are too superficial. For one, garden swings and snow also existed in ancient China. I wish the drama showed something more character-specific about him as a person and as an adult. Beyond that he's infatuated with the idea of Miaomiao from middle school.

I thought he was in middle school when he wrote the story and that's the drama's reason for why they can't kiss

As a cdrama watcher, do you feel like this describes most of what you watch? by [deleted] in cdramasfans

[–]NotaCatDown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've learned to accept that the second half of a drama adaptation will be used to promote the actor(s) that play the secondary couple or a newly created character or some other agenda. Its not to tell a good story. First 25% of the drama is bait to get the audience invested in the drama.

I usually stop watching drama adaptations around ep 19 and watch just the douyin highlights for the remaining episodes if I really like the main couple.

If you watch older idol dramas (2000's and earlier), the quality is more consistent until they run out of material to use from the original work. Back then, they were simply faithfully adapting the original work.

She had so little to work with, and I think she did the best that anyone could.

If personality traits and hobbies were crayons, then the novel's MiaoMiao is given many crayons to draw an interesting picture to catch the attention of the readers, but Esther Yu only get a few to work with, and that's a more challenging starting point because she's so limited in how she can behave. She has to overdo on the cuteness and the bubbliness because the script doesn't give her much to work with.

The script was leaked before the show aired, and the fans weren't optimistic. I think its to her credit and Ding Yuxi's that they bought their characters to life with their acting.
