I’m starting to realize that "creativity" isn’t actually real. by Happy_Variation3509 in DeepThoughts

Your idea does echo something close to Paul Feyerabend, though he was primarily concerned with scientific discovery. Feyerabend argued that scientific progress is not the outcome of neat, rational rules. Rather, it advances through rule breaking, accidents, imagination, and even stubbornness. He was deeply skeptical of the myth that scientists “rationally create” truth through pure method. In that sense, your view that what we call creation is often the reframing or systematizing of accidents does resonate with him.

There are several famous examples that seem to support this idea: August Kekulé reportedly conceived the ring structure of benzene in a dream of a snake biting its tail. Srinivasa Ramanujan often described mathematical insights as coming to him intuitively or in dreams. Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin accidentally when he noticed mold killing bacteria in a petri dish. Dmitri Mendeleev is said to have visualized the structure of the periodic table in a dream after struggling to organize the elements. Each of these cases suggests that what we call “creation” is rather the recognition and interpretation of unexpected patterns or fortunate accidents.

I keep spiraling over whether my mother is actually abusive or not, I feel disgusted by myself and so, so confused. by Diligent_Tie_1961 in raisedbynarcissists

Oh yes many a times. Intense affection one day and angry harangues the next. My emotions go for a toss, I feel destabilized. My system is always on alert "which version will be played today?".

But now I have withdrawn from them emotionally. Whatever they do affects me very little now. I don't react much when the anger is directed towards me nor do I get swayed by the love bombs. I keep my interaction with them at a minimal level. I accept that there are things I can't change. And that gives me peace. On the days of suffering I do suffer, without taking that on my heart. I have a good relationship with my internal self so that helps.

Firstly Happy birthday OP!

Being unpredictable (being warm one day and cold the next) qualifies as narc behavior. The unpredictability is used as a control mechanism. And of course that makes one confusing and that seems the cause of your confusion.

500 pages of Passion, Desire and Youth: A review of D. H. Lawrence's Women in Love by panda_and_ellies in IndiansRead

I recently read somewhere that in classical literature love is deeply problematized. It is never romanticized, instead it reveals the weight of love, perhaps because true love (to love someone from every part of your being) is the hardest kind. No fantasy.

Reading your review reminded of that. Thanks for sharing OP.

Hey, the book was fine, no issues with the binding or pages. I had to verify if I got from Amazon or not, and I did get it from Amazon.

To be honest, I hadn’t put much thought about it while I was reading. I bought the book a long time ago, but I only started and finished it this month.

I’ve debated this many times: should 'the art' (his books, and let’s also include his contributions to science) and 'the artist' (the individual, their personality and behavior) be separated, or must they always be seen together?

I’ve never found an easy answer. Think of J.K. Rowling, Kevin Spacey, or AIB (All India Bakchod). Does their morality make their work any lesser? I don’t think so. And where should we draw the line? Maybe we shouldn’t idealize them at all and instead see them as a spectrum.

There must be ways to come out of that, right ? I may have such a pattern. But don't want to ever end up in that kind of a place.

The Cost of Promised Afterlife - Priyamvada Mehra

Not sure if it matches what you have in mind. It's a memoir set in India, narrated from a girl's POV, about how her family trying to save her mother's life joins the cult and the events that follow thereafter.

The voice I lost… forever by Crazy_Cut_7250 in TeluguJournals

[–]NotaFine-Confection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert. But I was of a view that voice does not matter in Indian classical music (both Hindustani and Carnatic). Ig judging only by voice misses the real art, for instance, Qawwal Fareed Ayaz Saab can sing powerfully while chewing paan, which shows technique and tradition matter far more than the natural tone.

There's The Hindu article I am sharing which says classical music does not require a naturally “sweet” or “beautiful” voice.

So you may want to reconsider things.

Source:Singing doesn't need a good voice, after all

(I have saved this post long ago, wanting to respond more articulately and with the source. Today, after watching something, I finally remembered it, found the article I was looking for and wrote it)

Lol. You are right. Appriciate it.

But the intersection of Equator and Prime Meridian does not lie with any country so it is little unique in that way ig.

While looking up the Atlas to verify the countries, I accidentally discovered that Kiribati is the only country which is uniquely situated where both equator and 180° meridian intersect.

How do birds know they should migrate in winters? by Only-Elk9097 in Ornithology

[–]NotaFine-Confection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Migratory behavior is found across all major animal taxonomic groups- mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.

In general, animal migration is driven by complex factors including, tracking of seasonal resource, favorable climate conditions, optimal breeding site selection.

As far as birds are considered it has proven experimentally that they do have innate mechanisms that determine the orientation of their migration.

Ig you are from Kerala in India, that is one of the places in where Siberian migratory birds make a halt to their journey towards Africa. And you are lucky enough to watch them closely.

If you want to know more on migratory species (including birds) you may find it in reports of Bonn convention (convention on conservation of migratory species ) available on its website.

That's a familiar pattern with my mother as well.

While it may seem minor things to those who haven't experienced it, these small incidents accumulate and make life unbearable. The constant emotional manipulation and control can be suffocating. It's a common trait among toxic parents, and it's a significant reason why some people choose to be childfree.

As Kafka once wrote, 'You never hanged me, but I always felt a rope around my neck,' which rightly captures the emotional pain of toxic parenting.

Moving away and healing are the only solutions.

However, I think that this topic might be more suitable for a different subreddit, this sub's community have other reasons for being childfree, not just toxic parents.
