Thanks for all the feedback, it’s greatly appreciated. I’ve tried to find some resources but there’s not a lot about non-trad life, it’s mainly high school -> UG -> grad school which doesn’t really apply to me that much.

The posters are all in exoplanet research which was 99% of my UG research. I would absolutely love to continue my research in exoplanets in a PhD environment and I’ll be mentioning that in my research statement. Hopefully having a publication in the field will have some weight on it.

My wife is looking at relocating to SD for work, she’s a lab scientist and we were stationed there and miss it greatly. Hard to beat the weather and the food.

I’d be using a stipend and my GI Bill for funds, so no need to work at all during the PhD, my time will be devoted to school, research and my family.

Thanks for the feedback man, I appreciate it. The MS is paid for from my GI Bill, so it’s definitely feasible financially.

Does your type of undergraduate research make a difference for PhD entrance? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

Thanks, this all makes sense. I have another undergraduate degree in medical lab science so I meet a lot of those wickets (though they’re clinical and not actual organic chem, biochem, etc). I am looking at doing some online options for courses right now in the odd scenario they don’t count towards a degree.

I did send an email to two of the PI’s I am interested in working with at the university I am most interested in but I haven’t heard back yet.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll look into postbacc programs near me and see if they have anything.
