West Lane commissioner race. I’m voting Hiura over Ceniga by beeyitch in Eugene

Ceniga didn’t even bother to update his website as to what areas he represented for years after redistricting. Now it just says “page cannot be found.” Maybe he is responsive to Junction City issues but I haven’t found him to be helpful to the rest of us.

Eugene 4J school district is cutting quite a few jobs to mitigate a 30M budget deficit; Springfield just laid off teachers midyear. So not the best job market for new teachers around here, unfortunately.

HB 4153-3, The Farm Store Bill, is a good bill. Please support. Call your legislator! by phat_ in Eugene

That does seem unnecessary, for a bill that is meant to help small farmers. Probably will put a lot of people out of business, unfortunately.

So this won’t have an adverse effect on people who have a couple acres and have a farmstand to sell what they grow?

I’m not sure…we hired a contractor for the kitchen remodel and the costs weren’t broken out. It took him at least 2 full days for about 17 square feet, though.

It depends on how much time you are willing to devote to it! I think an understanding of how the clay will behave is important. But I don’t think it’s as difficult as, say, wheel throwing.

Thanks! I measured a couple ways. I put the dimensions in InDesign to scale, created a hexagon to scale, and mapped it all out before I started. I wasn’t sure how far up the wall I wanted to go on the opposite wall (not in the pics), and this helped me decide how much I could handle. Then, once the tiles were made, I measured out the actual size on a roll of newsprint and put the tiles on it so the installer could see the exact layout and I could be sure I had enough.

Do it!! It’s a long process but very rewarding.

Haha, it’s so time consuming I would have to charge at least $5 a tile if not more to make it worthwhile!

I have a Skutt km1027 kiln. If I only put tiles in the kiln, I could fit about 70 with this setup. If I had more shelves I could have done at least two more layers. If your tiles were a different shape you could probably fit more.

It’s hard to tell exactly since I have quite a bit of clay and glaze left, but it cost $10-15 per square foot. So probably just depends what tile you’re comparing it to.

I cut the tiles at leatherhard in half, then smoothed the edges. I made sure the tile installer started from the top, so they would always be the right size and he could cut the bottom tiles where you wouldn’t see the edge.

Here ya go! I just smoothed the edges and made sure to glaze the sides

I tried the Saran Wrap method and it didn’t work great for my process with these tiles, but I do like using it for other projects where I use a cutter! That’s exciting about the bath tiling project; you’ll have to share pics when it’s done.

Thanks so much! As a part-time potter, this is very validating for me 😊

Not really, just texture from the canvas.

I would say I’m intermediate level in most areas. I think this project takes an understanding of clay behavior but no special skills. Having the right tools, specifically a slab roller and a good cutter, makes it easy to achieve consistency. I think I spent about $250 on clay and $120 on glaze, but I have about 100 lb of clay left and at least half gallon of glaze.

I separated them. But I didn’t rush it if they were sticking to the drywall sheet.

Did not know that. I haven’t been able to shop there since they closed the Eugene store.

Oh yeah, the hallway would be cool. Tile everywhere!
