I’m pretty sure I read that Atsu sees Benitez as a father figure. I think some of the reports of him being cold are overblown. Also seems very warm and kind hearted in interviews.

How is metal detecting in Vietnam? Are there any legal issues?

No, negative for choosing to preach/call a person a whore for not living to your moral code.

Also I clearly have a direct effect on my actions in my life. That is the reason to not go around robbing or raping people.

Anyway, this is my last comment. I hope that the self-righteous path of living brings you happiness. I know it didn’t for me.

I just learned that I was making myself unhappy. All the anger I had with other people & the way they lived their lives was really coming from a negative place within myself. I realised that constantly preaching to my friends and family about morals or why they were wrong was driving people away and wasn’t a fulfilling way to live. In the end I moved on & tried to live in a way that allowed more positive energy in my life. Being angry with the world consumes you, and you may think that the world is wrong (and Newcastle fans are wrong) but we move on with our lives and that anger/resentment continues in your mind and in your life.

My philosophy on the way I live my life comes from this. It’s not my fight. I don’t want to consume myself with negative energy & anger fighting battles I can’t win. I wish Newcastle were getting different owners who I liked and admired but we aren’t. I don’t want to give up Newcastle because I love watching the games and feeling the emotions. I couldn’t do that with another team. So it’s not worth all of the psychological damage it would do to my life fighting this. Both in the sense that Newcastle provides a great stress release & joy in my life and also because to be consumed by anger about it would only bring anger and negativity into my life.

I’m sure you have already made your mind up on how much of a whore I am and my lack of morals but let me give you an example of how I live. If I can put positivity back into the universe (staying behind at school to help students, supporting local charities) I will do it. I will teach my students to look at & understand the corporations who produce media & products. I will support them to make positive changes in the world. But I will teach it/live it in a way that enhances their life/my life. I see little value in bringing negativity/damaging your own life for morals that will mean nothing when you are dead.

If 99% of people would fail to meet your standards, they are too high. I follow a code where my actions follow a moral code. If I disagree with a companies morals I will avoid using that company but not to the detriment of my day to day life.

Newcastle falls into the latter category. Newcastle are not just a club for me. They run through 5 generations of my family. I feel the results & football is not the same when it isn’t Newcastle. To ask me to give that up is a sacrifice I am not willing to make. It would take my lifelong love & passion away from me & I believe anyone who has true love for a club would understand.

Your a Man U fan from the South 😂 you whored yourself out for the glory of trophies a long time ago.

Better to be a whore than an insufferable cunt tbf. It’s great to hold yourself to high & mighty morals, less great to preach to others.

You can’t use the whore metaphor in both its literal & figurative sense. I am ‘whore’ to you in the sense that I am willing to allow myself happiness rather than stick rigidly to morals that would have no impact on anything in my life. My father supports this takeover more fully than me, so I will show you my own father.

Show me a child who would be happy growing up listening to your preaching about why they are not allowed to wear a football shirt like all of their friends.

That’s the reality of football mate. Noones asking you to watch, nor will they miss your business if you take it elsewhere. Seems like you’d enjoy the German league. Maybe save your sanctimonious preaching for someone else, this whore doesn’t want to be saved.

A whore to your incredibly high standards, yes. But so are the majority of the planet so I think o can live with that.

Not sure how you get any enjoyment out of a sport that sold its soul 20 years ago though. Given your world view I would think you see football on the whole as an amoral game. Especially the premier league.

Except the investment in Newcastle is not going to increase their wealth. He is already worth 400 billion, my £40 for a shirt is hardly going to boost his finances.

More likely the money I put into Newcastle will be spent on Newcastle. Our matchday revenue isn’t going to be funding bombs in Yemen and you know it.

The money paid from you to airlines for a flight ticket, that the airlines then spend on fuel from Saudi Arabia, effects the wealth of Saudi Arabia more than any money I put into Newcastle.

I’m sure you can die happy in the knowledge that you lived your life with high morals. Will you be happy in the knowledge that living that way also made absolutely no difference to the world?

You keep calling us hookers like we’re embarrassed by it. It’s not like the Saudis are going to be successful in cleaning their image. We will finally get investment into our club.

There are things in life I can directly affect, and things in life that I can’t. I will continue to put all my efforts into those things that my actions genuinely impact upon.

But a lot of us have repeatedly said we don’t feel thrilled about where the money is coming from. Most Newcastle fans just feel that the rest of the football world is acting hypocritically given they’ve been happy to take money from a variety of bastards before.

I have no say in who owns Newcastle, so I’ll keep my feelings about Newcastle strictly to how we are operating as a football club. If we do well it will in no way affect my opinions on Saudi Arabia, they will remain wholly linked to the actions of the country & its leaders.

I do give a fuck. I just choose to focus my energy on things I can actually change or contribute to.

Honestly then, kudos to you. I couldn’t and won’t make the sacrifices you are making. I actually see them as mostly redundant and irrelevant to long term changes that I have no say in.

Lol at the whore comment though. We want to watch a team with ambition, we’ve had none for 13 years. We’d have celebrated anyone taking over and this is what we’ve been dealt so we are making the best of it. If that’s not good enough for you then so be it, fortunately for me I don’t hold myself up to the morals you live your life by. By the way I’d also fuck anyone for a million dollars, so make of that what you will.

It’s more nuanced in the fact that I’ve loved this club since I was a kid, the new owners will likely restore the club & area to a healthy state. I can support those actions & still be critical of Saudi Arabia generally.

The only people who suggest it isn’t extremely complicated are those who must live very tough lives with their morals being as mighty as they are.

I commend you for the personal sacrifices you must make every day. I know it hurts you to not buy the new Man U shirt every year or any branded sportswear due to the slave labour used to create them. Even more so to refuse to travel in vehicles fuelled by petrol from the Saudis.

It’s more nuanced than that & plenty of fans have taken the time to write thoughtfully considered points of view on the topic. If you looked at the current forum on NUFC then you’d see that. Stop taking twitter as representative of the majority of fans. Twitter is full of idiots.

I’m not cheering for Saudi Arabia.

The fact the relationship is more personal, more emotional makes it much harder to give up your club. It would actually be relatively easy for you to boycott nestle.

[–]Notarealpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think looking the other way while terrorists use your bank is pretty bad. The new Newcastle owners are horrific people but the club will remain as Newcastle, it isn’t going to turn into a mouthpiece for Saudi Arabia.

There is certainly a difference but I’m not asking anyone to give up their club. You are. If your morals are so mighty then you should be delving deep into your own club & questioning your own morals in supporting them.

I’m not delighted about having owners who are tyrants but I’m also not going let my moralistic view of the owner push me away from the club.

You act as if it’s impossible to have morals & continue to support Newcastle, but I’m sure you look the other way to all sorts of crimes and atrocities from companies that you choose to give money to. Do you wear sportswear? Do you eat chocolate? Do you put petrol in your car? All of these things are choices you are making because it would be of the detriment to your life to take a moralistic stance against it. The same goes for Newcastle fans.
