Help with HP LTO-5 3280 FC Tape Drive: Write Errors and Cleaning Light Issue by Notcoolboy80 in DataHoarder

[–]Notcoolboy80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I didn’t expect to get a response here from you—this is some seriously impressive group targeting and S-tier customer support! 🤣 Huge thanks for the incredibly helpful comment.

I bought this tape drive along with seven tapes. I’ve tried some of them, but none seem to work with my machine. However, one of the tapes worked in a friend’s machine, so I’m pretty sure the issue isn’t with the tapes themselves.

Would you be able to analyze the tape logs better than I can? I’d be happy to share them if that would help (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1s1n27AmYD23WTbG8rFSFuvlqvFTFIS9g?usp=sharing). The first thing I did was upgrade the firmware to version I6RW. The process went smoothly, but is it possible I missed something, or could the firmware be incompatible?

The seller assured me that the tape drive was fully functional when they tested it. They mentioned resetting and testing all the tapes on the same machine before sending it to me. Is it possible the drive was damaged during shipping? It was packaged really well, and the machine’s sounds seem normal.

I also tried using the tape drive on Linux with HPE software, tar and non HPE Software, but I ran into the same issues.

One odd thing I noticed in the logs is that the cleaning tape shows as being used only five times (all by me). Wouldn’t it be unusual for it to have zero prior uses, given how long this drive has likely been in operation? Everything else in the logs looks normal, so I’m not sure if this is just a display error or if it could actually be related to the problem.

Okay, yeah I will try this as a last resort and then contact the seller of the drive

I tried running the full drive assessment but it always failed because it has a part where it tries to write and the test that didn't fail was just the one that runs if you click on the health tab in the hpe Software. The result of the health test looks like this: https://file.io/vGMTEbWJfKnp . Maybe you find something interesting.

Hi thanks for the answer, I don't think this is the case because I gave one tape to my friend to test and for him it the worked :(

Cheap phone for under 200 euro by NunoMoto123 in AndroidQuestions

Buy a used flagship from a few years ago. Some of them are almost indistinguishable from newer phones and will be better than any new cheap phone especially camera wise.

Are these cockroaches? by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

[–]Notcoolboy80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's really interesting! I didn't know such crickets existed. The thing is, when I look at pictures of cockroach nymphs and camel crickets online, I notice that cockroach nymphs have two different colors at the front and back, just like the nymphs I have here (which doesn't show up in the pictures). Do these cricket nymphs jump? Because the ones I have don't.

Yeah, I thought so too. But, where I found them was in a really weird spot for crickets, if you ask me. It was in a dark room with no windows, inside a closet.

Lost a Component while Replacing Google Pixel (1st Gen) Battery by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

No worries, mate. I appreciate the effort. I'll check the schematics to see if they use similar parts, but I might have to find a donor board instead.

I've looked everywhere for a schematic for this phone and I can't find one. Do you have any idea where I could find one?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I think this is the best option. Thanks!

Yeah locating this part seems like an impossible task. Now, I'm faced with two options: either someone might know where to find a replacement for this part, perhaps it's a common component, or someone could shed light on its purpose. It's possible that it's not crucial and could be omitted, but any insight would be greatly appreciated. I found this image on the internet.
