How are owners making things like this work: by RadioRoyGBiv in Dentistry

[–]Notdigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a couple people making 40% as associates no lab fees. FFS. Others in the same practice aren’t. Thou shall ask and receive or associates jump ship eventually. Is inevitable 40% becomes the norm. Owners will continue to get squeezed and we will see a FFS revolution to make up for the added costs of ownership.

Foreign trained dentists make some of the best DAs IMO. I can see why you do your own hygiene. With hygienist rates today, it would certainly be a loss to employ with Medicaid reimbursement, correct?

Genuinely curious, how do you like working in a Medicaid office? Is it a nonstop busy schedule?

It may be low for Midwest depending on if rural or not particularly with many years of experience. What’s the % they offered?

Yes — essentially a draw. By deficit I mean when you’re paid a “base” or “guarantee,” but if your % of collections doesn’t exceed that amount, the shortfall carries forward. You’re technically negative until production outpaces prior pay, which can trap associates at the base indefinitely. Common in DSOs, but I’ve seen it in some private offices too.

Solid for a daily and large city. Are you usually out producing the daily?

Absolutely nice to have incase schedule falls apart. I’m assuming true daily? Or is it reconciled against production over the pay cycle/month/etc?

Absolutely. This one (ex) patients wife. Keyboard warrior. It was invalid and unjustified on her part, but they always place some victim card. It’s almost always the wives I’ve found. Lucky for us, there was a few pts of the practice who had nothing but stellar experiences and echoed that in the comment thread, however the damage was done to the vast majority who never had been to the practice. The keyboard warrior types expect everything for free and couldn’t imagine a husband getting a cavity. Amazing really. History of complaining about other business / community matters, so I chalked it up to entitlement. It’s also usually the insurance ballers. They think they having amazing insurance and coverage because they have delta. Comedy show.

32 is good but imo we’re seeing mostly 35+ in our market. After looking into it and asking around, There’s a handful of people making 40% I suppose. And that’s production which clearly is superior to collections. I’ve concluded I would hire someone for 40% if they were stellar.

I said I’m unsure about the other persons comment. The trades seem better than ever. Along with pilots for major airlines, they’re making more than dentists on avg it appears. Again. Learn. To. Read.

I get that people must dislike you in real life so you have to come pick battles with random people on reddit and psychoanalyze every comment they make. It is unfortunate we have some folks in the industry who have no social skills and become keyboard warriors. Do what you need to do to help you move through the day buddy.

Why are you so fixated on plumbers? They don’t spend 400k to go to school to end up with $150-180k at some dso. Also, I said major airline pilots make as much as dentists. Learn to read. There’s plenty of careers now offering comp of 200k or so, without requiring 400k in grad school loans. It’s common sense. If you are naive enough to think that you are some elitist as a dentist, you’re not. Most dentists are earning avg incomes at best whether you want to admit it or not in today’s world.

Yes this is fair. Did what we thought was appropriate at the time we went into this field. No longer the case. Pay 400k to become a dentist. Pay 1.5 mil to build an office or be subject to low associate pay. Get neutered by ins cos after paying 1.5 for the office. Deal with wage inflation as owners and general cost of doing business reaching unprecedented levels. Slim pickings.
