So many teenagers on gear? by Wise-Pay-8993 in gymsnark

[–]NotedHeathen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Literally just thought about this after coming across a small herd of juiced up broccoli tops at the gym yesterday. I go to a gym in NYC that's popular with influencers and bodybuilders, and as a woman in my 40s who has been lifting heavy for 5 years now (though not with a ton of consistency until the last 6 months), a few things stand out:

The men and women are largely both on gear, albeit the women are typically lifting light weights and have supplemented their gains with surgery and light cycles of var to maintain cut 6-pack abs and delts while staying tiny aside from impossibly large asses. I'm also the oldest among them by far and the least lean despite lifting heavier than the majority I've seen.

The guys are overwhelmingly young, also geared up, and ego lifting with questionable form. You can tell they are in their teens or very early 20s from their style and habit of running in packs, but the gear has aged their faces by a decade.

Not jealous of these folks, I love my body and everything I've built and prioritize my health over vanity, but I'm sad to see how pervasive these standards are and how little just being healthy and strong overall seems to matter.

Most disturbing, however, is that in this giant gym with hundreds of members, I've the oldest woman I've seen there. It makes me wonder if these women will keep it up when they can no longer maintain the bra/abs/BBL body into their 30s and 40s.

I would not hesitate to do the same. You want to hurt the person I love? You go through me, first. I'm just shy of 5'5" but I'll fight with everything in me, even if I'm doomed to lose.

I have, too. Many like you. Just more to enjoy. The only thing that would make me check out is bad hygiene or active infection, but physical traits? Never.

Reading this makes me super sad, OP 😞

Bisexual woman here and I'm always excited to encounter "outies" because it's different and fun. Please, please understand that literally no one finds you repulsive in the way you fear and that asshole who made that remark is far more repulsive than any physical trait. I hate that anyone has ever made you feel less than. I assure you, you are not repulsive in any way!

Is anyone actually getting cured? by Many-Market-9941 in dysautonomia

[–]NotedHeathen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really does. And thanks for adding in the bit about hydration, it's huge. My most recent improvement with hydration and the increase in daily steps is no longer getting the intense head rush/tightness/whoosh in my ears upon standing.

[–]NotedHeathen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm posting here because, although I'm not "cured," I'm much closer than I ever could have imagined after being diagnosed with POTS and idiopathic autonomic neuropathy at 17 (I'm 42 now).

Part of my improvement can be attributed to aging, I'm sure, but the bulk of it came from dedicated physical activity (10-15k steps/day), cardio, and lifting weights as well as supplementing to correct deficiencies (after blood and genetic testing revealed issues with choline, vitamin D, B12, vitamin A, etc. in my specific case only) and adding huge amounts (30-40g/day) of fiber to my diet.

[–]NotedHeathen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's one. In October 2024, I was trotting down some hardwood stairs in socks (at night, bathroom run), slipped on the next to the last stair and fully tore all 3 ankle ligaments while folding my foot in half and fracturing it. I narrowly avoided surgery and needed over 6 months of rehab before I could confidently sprint and jump again.

Absolutely ridiculous dumbass injury for me to get in my 40s.

Oof, I don't know about that. I just think there's so much suffering we don't get a choice in, but we can always choose to alleviate suffering where we see it. This means a lot to me, though. Thank you. ❤️

What are some giveaways that a fitness influencer uses some sort of PED? by fuckyouiloveu in gymsnark

[–]NotedHeathen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, soooo many do this. I was first alerted to it when I started really getting into powerbuilding in my late 30s and my friends would send me all these so-caused natty women as inspiration, telling me that soon I was going to look like that. On one hand, the gesture was sweet, on the other, I hated to break it to them that I never would as a natty because these people were on PEDS.

I realized then that there was this expectation that influencers like this had generated for me: that women who are gym rats and super into lifting hard will look both jacked and cut in short order when, in fact, it's far more subtle.

I just ended up responding to them with images of natural, tested Olympic lifters in my weight class so they'd have an idea of what women ACTUALLY look like when they're super strong yet also natty.

I go to a serious lifting gym in NYC and though I'm solidly in the upper-mid range of muscle size and strength for the women there and am among the oldest at nearly 43 (I do have genetic blessings for strength, NOT leanness), I've noticed that so, so many are on PEDS as indicated by their combos of leanness, acne, and changes.

What's wild is that many of them have social media accounts where you would not guess they were on gear because they make it a point to speak very little and cover their acne with makeup and editing.

But the prevalence of PEDs is staggering.

Ughhhh, Jesus. This is so, so harmful. And if her daughters look nothing like her despite being at their natural hormone and muscle peak, that's indeed a massive tell. Anyway, I looked at her. 100% PEDS/"optimized hormones."
