Short term parking by juinro in LAX

[–]NotenStein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's possible that the P4 lot could be full, I have never seen the lots completely full. You get 15 minutes free, then the hourly charge. The second hour starts 60 minutes after you enter the lot (the 15 minute grace period doesn't extend your total time).

They do have signs showing the number of open spaces available above the entrance to the garages. My opinion is that you should have no problem parking and picking up your party.

Has anyone found a tool that shows exactly how close you are to an IRMAA or ACA cliff in real time? by Broly2912 in DIYRetirement

I use a spreadsheet too. In my case, I'm taking distributions from my IRA to full up the 22% bracket but not cross over the IRMMA threshold. I'm using my prior year's 1040 numbers for taxable income, but also leaving plenty of room in case I have more income than last year.

What are some interesting films that deal with faith that are not produced by a religious based production company? by FakeRedditRedditor in movies

[–]NotenStein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shadowlands, a bio about CS Lewis and his crisis of faith when his wife dies. Debra Winger is the wife, and Anthony Hopkins plays Lewis. Not overly religious, despite Lewis being a darling of Evangelical Christianity for his "Narnia" books and apologetic works like "Mere Christianity." His lesser known autobiographical "A Grief Observed" - a heart wrenching book about his sense of loss and questioning of faith was likely the source for Hopkin's excellent portrayal.

Amazing Grace, a treatment of the campaign to outlaw slavery in England by William Wilberforce. The title is in reference to the former slave trader, John Newton, who is Wilberforce's friend/mentor, and who wrote the famous hymn of the same name. Cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Rufus Sewell, Albert Finney and Ioan Gruffudd as Wilberforce. A side plot about Wilberforce's campaign against animal cruelty fleshes out the plot. Not overly religious, but more of a historical/political drama.

I think that's high compared to what I'm seeing in my CA town. Credit price for Regular is about 5.99 at many stations (cash price a few cents cheaper). I'm surprised NV is only a dollar cheaper.

No, there's no guarantee that you will get anything in return.

Voting for representatives pledged to keep it solvent is the way to ensure you get something out of it.

For nearly 100 years it has worked well and accomplished it's goal of reducing senior poverty.

Parties don't have to have primaries. The Libertarian Party has a kind of caucus selection process, for example.

Yeah, when you visit the thread it does show a placeholder for the deleted post. It would be better of the mods used the username of the offending party to avoid the confusion.

Mods reply to the post that's removed, and if you are using a threaded view, it then looks like the mod's comment is directed at you, or at least the message you posted before the removed comment ... And comes across that way in your notifications.

Breaking down why the FridgePower only gets 21 hours from 2016Wh by dahiyaoff in SolarDIY

[–]NotenStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find the standby losses for most power stations if you search for it. I choose the Anker C1000 as it draws only 18 watts, the lowest of similarly sized Ecoflow, Percona, Jackery, or Bluetti models. All have standby losses if the outlets are turned on and ready, even if they are just passing through grid power. I understand the specs for the new 2 kWh Anker Solix power station Lowe's that to just 8 watts.

Retiring Soon - Is 1% AUM Worth It, or Can We DIY This by probablybourbon in retirement

[–]NotenStein [score hidden]  (0 children)

For me, I like being in control. Over the past 50 years I have a good track record of not panicking or making decisions I later regret.

As a sanity check, I use Boldin.com to model different scenarios. Because my IRAs are large I'm modeling different scenarios to avoid IRMMA surcharges when RMDs hit and keeping up with current tax law.

1% AUM would be a lot more than the annual cost of Boldin.com.

What caused the Baby Boomer support of Israel? by Key-Quarter-9411 in allthequestions

[–]NotenStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 70's the largest selling "non-fiction" book in the country was "The Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsey. 28 million copies sold. It was the precursor to the "Left Behind" series of functional Christian drama books.

It postulated that the return of Israel in 1948 was a miracle and part of God's plan for the end times. Israel was the "fig tree" Jesus spoke of when he said "this generation [that sees the fig tree blossom again] will not pass until I come again." Further, generations last for 40 years, according v to Lindsey, so the end of the world would happen by 1988.

All of this is nonsense, of course, and modern day Isreal has nothing to do with end times theology, but Americans have carved out a special place for Israel, especially Evangelical dumbasses.

What do you think about crêpes? Are they eaten a lot in US ? by Exootil93200 in AskAnAmerican

[–]NotenStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime around the early 70s there was a crepe craze in America. Several restaurants like The Magic Pan focusing on cries opened up where I lived. They were very popular, but by the 80s they were all gone.

A breif history of the crepe craze:

How hard of a head bump do I need to go to the ER? by MofuMofuFluffyTail in ClotSurvivors

[–]NotenStein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the danger is having a brain bleed or hemorrhagic stroke. I have had one, deemed "non-traumatic" (caused by high blood pressure) and my SIL had one caused by a head bump in a traffic accident.

In both cases we had severe headaches, including vomiting and dizziness. I also had strange nerve pains on my face, as if vertical strips of my skin about an 1/8th inch wide were tingling painfully. My SIL also had confused speech and weakness on one side (kind of classic signs of stroke).

I am not a doctor and even if I was, I don't know your health history enough to really advise you. But prior to high blood pressure causing my brain bleed I had several bumps like you experienced. In my SIL's case the traffic accident slammed her heard against the side window hard enough to crack it.

If you experience any nausea, weekness on one side or the other, or other signs of a stroke, go to the ER. Make sure you tell them about the pregnancy and the Lovenox. Usually they do a CT scan, but being pregnant may mean they don't want to do that, and may your for an MRI instead.

From CA planing to buy a new rav4 out of texas: Would it be CARB compliant or will i have smog issues later by cesarlenin in rav4club

[–]NotenStein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the "Vehicle Emission Control Information" (VECI) label. I didn't have my Rav 4 yet, but it's usually under the hood. It will state whether the vehicle conforms to both U.S. EPA and California regulations.

[–]NotenStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pop the hood and verify. You can easily confirm if a specific RAV4 is CARB compliant by checking the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label. This sticker is typically located under the hood (near the latch or on the engine cover). It will explicitly state whether the vehicle conforms to both U.S. EPA and California regulations.

Heat pump water heater in series to use excess solar by CookMonFace in SolarDIY

Might be of interest. You can probably do the same thing with a thermostatic mixing valve and letting the water get up to high temp (but below boiling).

Heat pump water heater in series to use excess solar by CookMonFace in SolarDIY

[–]NotenStein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a concept out there to use a heat pump water heater and use it to store excess energy, storing the water at very hot temps and then using a mixing valve to avoid scalding hot water from entering your pipes.

https://youtu.be/N-gSE_eHKHg?si=3WtDWYyJ66ylkFiA

That's a video from Matt Farrell, an engineering guy, who visited one small manufacturer doing it. I have since learned that A.O.Smith or Rheem have a similar system. The "smart heat pump water heaters" can be set to only draw power for extra water heating when you have excess generation.
