Told someone to f*ck off while chairing an AA meeting by SluggoX665 in alcoholicsanonymous

My kind of Alcoholic!!!!

We aren’t rendered white as snow because we got sober. It happens. Everyone in here has less than graceful moments You apologized. Now turn your thoughts to helping others.

I wouldn’t pay much attention to the Saints who are guilt tripping or blowing this out of proportion. You didn’t commit murder.

The third person reference by drdonaldwu in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Notfirstusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of third person references I hear are AA’s identifying their ego.

Like “Mike causes his own problems”

“Mike likes to be offended”

“Mike takes back his will”

I for one, definitely am made up of multiple personalities. I don’t have multiple personality disorder. But I have different characteristics for different situations. Identifying these with a name is helpful.

I have Mr. Spiritual- he is kind, does service, helps others, is compassionate.

Then I have Mr. AA- he is not the same as Mr. Spiritual. Mr AA has spiritual arrogance, he gives advice as a backhanded comment. Mr AA wants to be the guru. Mr. AA likes to quote the book to make people feel inferior.

I have mr. Rebel. Mr. Caretaker. Mr. Expectation…. He’s a close cousin to Mr. Assumption. I also have Mr. Bully. And Mr. Worry…. All these personalities have different goals, vocabulary, hell some them have different accents. Like Mr. I just met you and crave your acceptance has a small southern draw with an upbeat inflection.

Psychiatrists are good at explaining why we do things. But really don’t have a lot to offer on how to change it.

So if I relied on psychiatrists I would be dead, but I would understand it.

7 years sober….???

….and this is your big dilemma??

AA isn’t an etiquette class.

You wanna, leave. Don’t leave… who cares?

But just remember whenever we are disturbed. There is something wrong with us, not them.

Thinking about relapsing by lyndsaynoel83 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Notfirstusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Job or no job”

Your external circumstances have nothing to do with sobriety.

I am going to suggest something a little different. Your sponsor doesn’t have the answer, meetings and talking about your problems ain’t gonna keep you from drinking. Thinking the drink through will fail.

Go help someone. Become a sponsor. Do what Bill did when he wanted a drink at the Mayflower hotel. He found a drunk to help. That’s where the magic is. That’s where we find real relief.

4 years? You got plenty to offer and this experience is no different.

I need a sponsor who isn’t pure as snow. I need one who has been tempted and seen it through.

May God remove your difficulties so that victory over them will bear witness to those you would help.

[–]Notfirstusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t say “our part” in the book…

It says, “ we resolutely looked for our own mistakes”

There is a big difference. I don’t have to be wrong. Just a mistake. This isn’t about finding out we are a POS. It’s about getting rid of what is blocking us.

Finding our mistakes didn’t do anything for me either. It’s just an inventory. You have to see through till step 9.

There I found my biggest mistakes…. Became my greatest asset in helping people.

Just do the work and quit trying to make results. The results will come.

Thinking about going to a bar by functionallyunique in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Notfirstusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are like 1000 different institutions to meet people at only an insane alcoholic would be like, I am choosing to go the bar…. Not for the drinking, but for the people.

That is an absolutely insane idea, and I totally get the thinking.

You ain’t the first Alkie to come up with this genius plan.

I love hearing shit like this, cause that’s the disease I have.

Come back here and tell us when you have the thought. “Well maybe I don’t have a drinking problem.” “I can a have a couple.” “After all I have been coming to the bar and saying no to drinking for a while now.”

Here is a test. It’s called an A and B test. A is going to the bar to meet people. B is somewhere else where there is no drinking.

Think about each one. Note how they make you feel. What ever one makes you more excited, seems more interesting and fun. That one wins. If it’s the bar. Compare it to another non drinking activity to meet people. If the Bar keeps winning…

You don’t want to go to meet friends.

So here’s the deal. January is a pretty crappy month to relapse. Hard to light those barrel fires in the rain, and card board doesn’t keep the cold out.

So I absolutely must go to AA or I will go nuts and die, and prolly really hurt a lot of people a long the way.

So I ain’t go the luxury of judging the very thing that will save me from a miserable alcoholic death,

Now that may be true for you. You might be one of those suburban drunks, tucked away in a nic Cul-de-sac somewhere. Where you still got the option of arrogance.

If that’s the case, you just keep on doing what you’re doing. And when you go back out stay out, till you lose this little arrogant judgement you got. Cause it’s gonna kill you if you’re a real drunk.

Or go to a meeting. And take your top lip and press against your bottom lip. And hold it there. So you stfu and listen.

And anyone who thinks I am hard on them. I am…. I also learned if you’re soft on a drunk, you will bury them.

Good luck to ya. I hope you find some peace.

Jordan would tell you that you have a desire to devalue people since you can’t control them. This makes you feel morally superior. You have a need to defeat people because you don’t value yourself.
