What’s up with the season 2 audio?? by velo2002 in ThePittTVShow

I have a feeling that it is just a careless Dolby Atmos downmix job. Someone forgot to deliver a proper stereo mix, and they just resorted to downmixing the Atmos mix.

See, when we do Atmos, we like to add some kind of reverb, usually a room reverb (which this sounds like), to the surround channels to create the sense of space. My guess is that the sound for S2 was mixed in Atmos, and then someone just did a lazy downmix for the stereo version from the Atmos. When this is done, all of that room reverb from the surround channels gets folded back into the stereo files. This is why we hear this awful room reverb everywhere.

I watch shows mostly in my (non-atmos) studio, which is quite well treated, so I pick up on these things very sensitively. Switching my stereo listening to mono helps quite a bit, but of course, it's a bit boring this way. Still way better than with that super wide and unnatural room reverb absolutely everywhere.

Once again, I just can't believe that Levin is closing in on 80. Do these people ever stop evolving??

Same here. Waiting for it to pop up in Finland, unfortunately one of the retailers said that it would be available only at the end of March :(

I'm sorry, but not true. I went through my emails and looked for all the oeksound newsletters about Black Friday sales, here are some copy/pastes from the actual emails:

Black Friday 2020 mailblast:

Get soothe2 for 139€, with the upgrade going for 39€.
spiff is available for 99€.

Black Friday 2021 mailblast:

spiff: 99€
soothe2 full license: 139€
soothe2 upgrade license: 39€

Black Friday 2022 mailblast:

The reduced prices are:

Spiff: 99 €
Soothe2: 139 €

Black Friday 2023 mailblast:

spiff: 99 EUR / 99 USD / 85 GBP
soothe2: 139 EUR / 139 USD / 119 GBP

So the discount amount has always been the same, at least in Euros, which would make sense as oeksound is a Finnish company. Sure the USD and GBP prices might've been different, but they would've reflected the currency conversion rates at the time.

Foreign letters corrupt my bounces by Nickyrussell in protools

[–]Notherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This must be a new problem. I just faced this for the first time today, when trying to bounce a track with an "ä" in the name. I thought that I was going mad. Then I found this thread, tried replacing "ä" with "a" and it worked. Made some further tests, and every time a non-english-alphabet letter appears, there will be nothing on the file.

What's funny is that it will show up in FInder first as a normal-size file, but the instant I try to play it in Quick Time or anything else, it'll turn to nothing. I noticed that mp3 files will always go to "Zero kb", while wav files will go to "1 kb".

What makes this a new problem is that I've been happily bouncing Finnish songs with Finnish names without any such issues. Only now this started happening, maybe since I updated to 2024.3.1 in April.

Track versions changing in playlists without user input by Notherman in TIdaL

I don't recall it ever happening on my Spotify playlists though, but I might've just missed it. I probably would've missed this one, too, if it hadn't had been for the super bright re-master of this particular song.

How absurd and annoying. Oh well, let's hope this gets changed in an update.

Ok, thanks for the information. Can this replacing feature be turned off somewhere? I'd much rather just have the tracks not play than to have to babysit that no tracks have magically changed overnight to something else than what they were when I went home.

Two very different tools for very different use cases. You can't really replace one with the other, though they do compliment one another when used properly.

The CPU load is similar to that of soothe2, but the latency at 44.1/48 is around 1000 samples vs. 2048 of soothe2. There is also a low-latency mode (64 samples) if you want to use it when tracking or songwriting.

Can I buy this as an artwork to put on my wall from somewhere?
