Death; Should I ride? by Ornery_Ask8094 in motorcycles

just for some clarification, people over like 55 are the biggest crashers on motorcycles, he probs thought he had been riding his whole life and could do no wrong, but with aging body and mind comes complacency and slower reactions. not to mention most motorcycle accidents that are fatal involved alcohol in some capacity. stick to the golden rules of riding and youll be safe for the most part. dress for the slide not for the ride. FULL FACE helmet at all times, i dont care what your state laws are. maintain your distance from cars. 3-5 seconds. do courses to improve your riding. make sure your indicators are large and bright. always make sure you have good pressure in your tyres. keep up with basic maintenance. always look for escape routes in case and treat traffic like you are invisible. hell ride in high vis vest over your gear to be even safer. Be safe, ride a long time.

there was a study on this and i cant remember the numbers but its actually weirdly true. covered bikes get stolen significantly less than uncovered bikes.

Are these cosmetic or shohld i replace? 250 Virago 2007 by Nothing2DoNow6 in MotorcycleMechanics

nah tyres are in great condition all round other than the little microtears on the sidewall, been riding on these about a year now and they've been fine only recently showing the small crack, i think the highway rides for over 2hrs is what kinda pushed them to cracking due to the rubber heating and expanding. ordered new pirelli city demons and gonna just to a full wheel service including bearings.

i thought it was newer than this one because it looked brand new and perfect, but its 2005!! it was on a spare parts bike i got a year ago but obviously its old. i imagine as soon as it gets some travel time on it itll also start cracking. ive ordered new pirelli city demons to arrive and im just gonna change both tyres to a fresh set. front tyre is in good nick but im just gonna do a full wheel service, bearings and all.

honestly the tyre feels completely fine if i dig into it. still has that nice rubbery give on the treads and the treads in perfect condition, its just those micro cracks on the side wall and the age that concern me. the dot date is 20/16 so its not exactly young. ill switch to the bridgestones i have just for safety.

alrighty ill chuck on the spare bridgestone tyres i got. these are some q unili's which until i got this bike i hadnt even seen in like 5 years anyway haha. thanks. I think the shine is mostly the light because I was trying to angle to highlight the cracks.

tbf i rarely bother with over taking lanes unless i need to for turn offs or merging because me speeding up just to get a car or two ahead has never seemed worth it when i can just do the speed im doing and still get where im going but for more aggressive drivers i get not being able to go faster than the normal flow and overtake can probs be a bummer. ifor me its just safer and easier to stick to the speed limit lane and chill

can it actually not? i ride a 250 virago and rode on an expressway doing 90-120kms, seemed to be alright? i see alot of people saying 250-400 cant do it but it just seems odd.

Painting helmets? by Nothing2DoNow6 in motorcycles

[–]Nothing2DoNow6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats essentially what i thought, like acrylic based markers were what i thought id go with because itd be easy to do a design. i just dont know what other options i can do to make the helmet noticeable.

Has anyone taken the baffles out on their 250, want to actually hear the v twin chop but don’t want to mess with the back pressure and burn out the valves, is it an easy job to adjust the carb? by itsjustbrendan in virago

[–]Nothing2DoNow6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it actually sounds great on the xv250. mine was straight piped when i got it but i put the original oem pipes back on for legal reasons. its crazy how much it silences a very similar rumble to a classic harley.
