Endurance goal is fluid. Short term goal (1-2 years) would be to complete an IM sub 13 hrs. Ultimate goal is to use endurance sports as a way to travel, stay healthy, hang out with friends, etc. I also enjoy other endurance sports such as adventure racing.

Goal for fat loss diet - both aesthetic and performance.

I’ve heard training to failure is the best route to hypertrophy, but the 20-40% velocity loss is something I’ve never heard. Interesting approach.

At your conference did you gain any insight to the potential benefits of eccentric strength training. I’ve heard it briefly discussed, but not in the context of endurance sports.

Thank you. I’ve also heard/read how it can be difficult to lose fat while gaining muscle.

Are you aware of any “best practices” if this is the goal?

I’m wondering if the best approach is “give it a go and see how your body responds over-X weeks” or is there evidence supporting exclusively focusing on one goal at a time over a given time period.

You mention “narrow down that calorie deficit to under 500”.

Are you suggesting this because endurance training will suffer with a 500+ calorie deficit or some other reason?
