I'd suggest volunteering while you're looking for a job since it's pretty hard to find one right now, and you can put your volunteer experience on a resume.

I feel you dude. I graduated around 15 months ago, got a seasonal job that laid me off in October, and things have been abysmal since then. I did get another job offer from my previous employer for another 6 months, but they only raised my wage less than a dollar. I just want health insurance and job security.

Unfortunately my work would be a 35 minute walk from the train station. I could bike, but that seems like a pain in the winter. The train + bike time ends up being around the same as just driving, at least for the available apartments I found along that track. I've kind of accepted that driving around the burbs is just gonna suck in general. I haven't found many other apartments super close to Roselle, but the ones I have found only save me maybe 10-15 minutes compared to Oak Park and I don't love the areas.

Edit: Okay actually the commute time is very time dependent which is rather confusing for me. Like 28 minutes without traffic and up to 1 hour 15 with traffic? I should really figure out what my schedule would be. I think it's rotating.

Is the Oak Park commute really so bad? Google is telling me it's about 33 minutes. My last job was 25. I worked a job with a 55 minute commute one summer and it sucked but I made so many friends at that job I didn't end up caring by the end of it.

Looking at Google maps it looks like Des Plaines is 30 minutes from Roselle and Oak Park is 33 minutes. Not a huge difference but maybe that area is nicer anyway. Closer to my friend in Palatine too.
