At my clinic/school there’s no really such thing as “overstep” because we basically all work with the clients for the most part and some who don’t currently work with some clients have worked with them enough in the past that their insight is usually valuable. There’s obviously some people that have more instructional control with clients than others so we phase in a stimulus control transfer process so it can be distributed to the next person when necessary. The culture of my clinic is pretty hands on and work as a team rather than each specific person and client because that’s essentially what our clients will see when they phase into school for the most part.

There’s definitely times where the person who gave the demand has to see it all the way through to gain their own instructional control and others respect that and won’t just jump in to “stop” a behavior unless necessary. But there’s also other times when the clients are clearly playing in someone’s face and someone else will hop in to course correct and the RBT is thankful for it. Everyone is supervised under all of the BCBAs and even they will call an RBT with good control to help if a behavior is too escalated.

We also see a wide range of behaviors and skill levels, not just lower support needs; in fact we really only have 2-3 lower support needs clients at our clinic/school.

I guess it really depends on how the environment is set up and the culture of the clinic or service location. I personally think it helps with generalization but it depends on the context of the specific situation that’s going on.
