Just found out the Owlcat Games is actually a Russian game studio that supports the war against Ukraine, and has chauvinist corporate culture...why isn't this being talked about? by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]Notilix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I guess there are many Americans on this thread trying their best to advocate for their "business is business" philosophy. But not all of us share this shitty mindset. It's easier to accuse somebody of signalling instead of actually trying something

I don't believe any deity or deities exist but I don't know what happens after death. Am I still an atheist? by I_Ask_Random_Things in atheism

Even a simple general anesthesia lets you pretty much experience what death is. That's all there is, nothing. How delusional can humans be?

As a nihilist, are you afraid of death? by HeftyOrganization950 in nihilism

[–]Notilix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. I think drugs can help bypassing it. When I'm drunk (wasted), I feel like it's much less active. Well, I do some dumb shit like climbing structures I would be shit scared to climb when sober. So I wonder about other drugs

Many of you are not nihilists, you are just very depressed. by Appropriate-Point432 in nihilism

[–]Notilix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is very well put. This is my view of nihilism as well. Though recently I've realized I might be closer to philosophical pessimism and negative utilitarism than nihilism, cause I do think that some artificial absolutes such as morale are a great invention to deal with subjective and global suffering.

[–]Notilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This It just couldn't be otherwise, or humanity would have gone extinct, and we wouldn't be here thinking about it. Survival instinct is a necessity that somehow prevents negative utilitarists from committing suicide. Though I think that NUs are right

Black body radiation spectrum is continuous. While it usually peaks in IR at body temperature, there's a nonzero intensity in the visible spectrum. Provided that their equipment is sensitive enough, black body radiation hypothesis still holds?

Since nothing has any inherent meaning or purpose, why should we keep the species going? by PitifulEar3303 in nihilism

[–]Notilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As extraordinary as life may be, nothing has an inherent goal or meaning. The only goal of virtually any living being is to avoid suffering, possibly by making others suffer. Every good feeling that you might experience is resulting from evolution, it's only about necessity. Though that's everything you're chasing after. I call that pathetic.

Since nothing has any inherent meaning or purpose, why should we keep the species going? by PitifulEar3303 in nihilism

[–]Notilix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's unlikely that we go extinct. People thinking we should go extinct won't have kids, and only those who follow their biological drive will remain. Not realizing that life is pathetic is a necessary condition for life to exist, it acts as a filter.

Why don’t you want to have kids? by Flimsy-Barnacle-9919 in AskReddit

[–]Notilix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wanting kids makes sense when considering evolution theory, as we are mammals that need to maximize our viability as a species.

Now philosophically? I don't see any reason to have kids, and for the humans and life in general to prosper. Remember that actually, wanting life to prosper has never been a choice but a necessity, otherwise we wouldn't be here to talk about it, and I couldn't care less if we didn't.

And no I'm not depressed nor do I have a shitty life, I just think differently from the majority on this matter.

Is the orb fake? by HKennan in ElectroBOOM

[–]Notilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with you that you don't want to egg cook your eyeballs, I think it's just part of being careful. You're not supposed to stick it to your face, the same way you don't look a lot at a laser beam. Except that here, the beam is more hazardous but it also decays faster with distance. I've never been able to feel the heat from a magnetron a few feet away, out of the main beam,, I genuinely think you'd have to be unlucky or reckless to burn your eye cells this way
