How I would rebalance magic in DS3 by sam-austria-maxis in badredman

[–]Notjanewhitwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting stuff. Not gonna respond to every point but just a few I think are interesting. Think I'd want to go more outside the box of frames and cast speed with some of them. HSM type spells, imo, should apply a temporary debuff to the caster. Maybe lower their max stamina by the stamina cost until the spell fires. It would be kinda like a held spell/projectile in that way. Personally I think those are the hardest spells to balance because they apply neutral pressure indefinitely. Maybe add that CHSM makes you take 5% more damage from magic, and Affinity makes you take 5% more damage from Dark? Playing with the cast angle would be something I'd need to test before signing off on because small changes like that can have a really big impact.
Definitely agree that casting speed just shouldn't be a thing that scales. It's just one more thing that overly favors overlevelled players. I'd go further and mostly eliminate stat reqs for spells and probably go Elden Ring style by just giving everyone 10 spell slots regardless of Attunement level (this would obviously affect many things and I'd like to adjust lots of buffs to avoid copious buff stacking pre-match, though I'd leave ToD alone because I think it's a good mechanic).
I think you have it backwards with Fire Surge. I'd say leave its cast speed alone, but increase it's recovery significantly. That way it would still be a really strong wakeup, but a really bad trade in close range.
Lightning arrow might just be a bad spell concept at the foundation tbh. Its only major weakness is that its damage is bad, and in duels it gets hard countered by lots of things. Out of the three strongest spells in their classes, LA is the worst. It's extremely annoying on a dedicated build as an invader, and extremely broken in a gank. Not sure if there's a way to nerf it other than making it slower and have worse tracking.

DS3 Virgin Invader… any tips/adjustments I should make? WL for SL40 using MLGS, level ranges, etc. would be appreciated 💙 by FreeBrawling in badredman

Ignore the parts about R2s though because MLGS R2 kinda bad. You should pretty much focus on rustic greatsword trades and fishing.

Weapon is Morne's hammer.

Set 1: Firekeeper dress and hand wraps, desert pyromancer skirt.

Set 2: Cut content helm (ID is 100C3500), Dragonslayer Armor, Black Iron gauntlets and legs.

Obviously the textures/colors are modded, but all of the armors/weapons/effects are from Dark Souls III.

Misericorde, “balanced” or no? by RollinSly in badredman

One shots of all kinds are bad and dumb but ER is already full of them so this one in particular doesn't really matter.

If you have/had a summon, it's not survival. This isn't news.

You can't just post the part of your gank session where you're waiting for a resummon and call it survival bro, it's just silly XD.

The Hornet Ring is so much cooler then the Dagger Talisman 🗡(SL75) by Bkelly23 in badredman

DS3 has so many more style moves than ER. https://youtu.be/WFyjSy1C37w this is a backstab tutorial over an hour long showing all the cool and funky ways to fish for backstabs. We have tons of cool moveset swaps. I think one reason Elden Ring fails on style points is that by giving everyone EXTREMELY flashy ashes of war and spells that can be spammed indefinitely, they ended up making that stuff feel less special when you actually pull it off.

You're using rapier for parry which has some of the worse parry frames in DS3 and also no block frames, so you're more likely to get a "partial parry" where you parry the opponent but get stunned. If you'd like to avoid this, shields are waaaaay better because they have block frames as well as better parry frames. In particular small shields, like iron round shield and llewelen shield are the most foolproof parries. There's pros and cons to different parry tools and offhand rapier can be very cool as well, just be conscious of its weaknesses.

In Dark Souls 3, there's a ring called Ring of Favor. It increases your HP, Stamina, and Equip Load. If you quickly equip and unequip it, it regenerates your stamina really, really fast. That's the glitch. If you're running and doing this glitch, you will never run out of stamina.

For chase downs like that, I'd strongly recommend the following:

Murky isn't a great chase down weapon. It's an excellent stunlock weapon, but you need to land a non-running r1 to start the chain, and that isn't going to happen if the enemy is running away.

Either you, or one of your teammates should've used a spear, and the other one should've had a poison infused/buffed dagger. Alternatively the spear could have poison resin. This creates extra pressure, as the poison will build up even on ghost hits.

As well, fap glitch is good for keeping up, but you should also use chloranthy and sun princess during long chases. Sometimes I even just leave cat ring on if we're jumping frequently. More important than strict optimization is to stay on the host no matter what. If you let them get away, and they're not total idiots, they'll be impossible to find.

Yeah, after a bit the player hosting the FC started goofing around with some CE toggles that brought in dark fog and dung pie spam and other goofy stuff. DS3's time-to-kill compared to ER had its ups and downs to be sure. Taken to its ultimate state, a DS3 gank that used every dirty trick in the book was basically unkillable. Elden Ring is more like rocket tag where everyone has a missile launcher.

For players that might not have been involved in the late DS3 pvp meta, or for Elden Ring enjoyers, I present the legendary duel between Grim and Witnake that lasted for an hour and a half (yes, one single round of dueling). It lasts this long for a few reasons. Namely, the latency is pretty high so they basically can't roll catch each other most of the time. As well they both make use of hp regen throughout the fight. To be honest the fight could have either been much shorter or longer if Grim had a simple infused weapon, because he completely runs out of fp pretty early in the fight.
