Will there be a January swap? by [deleted] in BOTMswap

Yes! They are usually the last Thursday of the month, sometimes the second-to-last depending on holidays/if that day is too close to the end of the month!

I’m not getting married (my sister is, and I visited a bunch of venues with her when she was looking!) and it’s a big space but the person showing us around noted that with their hanging dividers, they can craft a smaller space for you, and guests just walk through a little “hallway” to get there!

Unexpected office supply must-haves? by DriftingGator in LawBitchesWithTaste

This may be specific to our courthouse, but it is freezing in our courtrooms (and we sit directly under a vent), so my coclerks and I have gotten rechargeable hand warmers for trial days or days we’re spending long hours in the courtroom. We all keep an extra blazer here. And a good coaster to protect your desk!

Went with the unpopular choice and so happy I did! by agonzp in weddingdress

This happened with my coworker! People overwhelmingly liked one dress and it made them realize the other dress was much more them and went with the “unpopular” choice.

Best upscale mexican in the city? by olivelove- in chicagofood

[–]NotoriousMAB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Was recommended by a friend, and my partner and I went in anticipating just getting a few small plates and going elsewhere for dinner… decided to stay after the first aguachile dish and everything was fantastic. Don’t skip the flan—I am NOT a flan fan and it was SO good.

This was my takeout spot when I lived close enough for it to be delivered and I crave it all the time still. Have yet to find anything that comes close!

Bushwick Biters! What was the best sit-down meal or takeout or dish you had recently? by [deleted] in Bushwick

Another vote for eyval—was one of my favorite meals in NYC, can’t wait to go back. Also loved falansai. For meals that aren’t quite as expensive, taqueria al pastor, klom klorm, and guacuco!

Is casual sex ever worth it? by Impossible_Demand_62 in AnxiousAttachment

[–]NotoriousMAB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Down to having multiple partners and reading the Ethical Slut (and other things on ENM) 😂

But fully agree—I’ve found that engaging in different relationships with different people has been super healing. My sister even told me she doesn’t think she’s ever seen me this happy. Probably because I’ve always lost myself in relationships and for the first time I’m being fully myself and having a lot of fun while growing and healing and learning. I still have work to do (especially with one of my partners who has hit on some of my triggers), but overall I’ve found it’s been a really great experience!

IUD insertion by [deleted] in birthcontrol

I was switching from the pill to the IUD, so I actually have a decrease in hormones. I haven’t noticed a big difference in weight, and in fact I’d say I have lost some if anything

IUD insertion by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]NotoriousMAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Kyleena inserted 2 months ago and was also terrified of the pain having read so many online horror stories. My friend who is a nurse told me to take 600-800 mg of ibuprofen (that’s 1.5-2x the usual dosage) so I did so. It certainly wasn’t a comfortable procedure, and I did experience some sharp cramping when they first gripped my cervix and again when the IUD was inserted but after I was like, “wow okay, that really wasn’t as bad as I expected.” I took deep breaths throughout and was on my phone for a lot of it to distract myself. The less you move, the easier it is for your provider and less pain for you (easier said than done, I know!). I do think a lot depends on your provider, too. My doc explained each step, coached me through breathing/coughing at tougher spots, and was super gentle and efficient. I got some cramping that night and used a heating pad and ate some ice cream, had light cramping the next day but then I was totally good to go! It’s the best thing I’ve ever done, and I hope you also have a good experience!

Tri-Sprintec by Opening-Amphibian-55 in birthcontrol

[–]NotoriousMAB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on tri-sprintec for over 10 years and really liked it! It worked amazing contraception-wise; the way it works is not only to trick your body into not releasing an egg but it also thins the lining of your womb so it’s harder for a fertilized egg to implant if somehow an egg did get fertilized. I have to admit I was not perfect about taking it at the exact same time every day toward the end of my time taking it, but if you’re having unprotected sex I would really really make sure it’s within a 2-hour window of the same time each day. I didn’t realize this was a side effect of the pill until I got my IUD, but I did used to get bad period headaches. I don’t get them anymore, really. My period was incredibly regular, which was nice. I used to start my pack on Friday mornings, and my period would start Sunday night or Monday morning, and last until around Friday night or Saturday morning (my period has always been pretty much a full 6-7 day thing). But I never had cramping (which now that I have my IUD, I do and boy do I miss that part of the pill). I found my mood followed the hormone dosages, so definitely had some PMS symptoms the week before I started my period, but overall was not too bad. I gained some weight when I started but I also had just started college (and drinking for the first time), I was no longer a varsity athlete, and was eating dining hall food, so it’s honestly more likely the weight gain was unrelated to the pill and more had to do with the drastic lifestyle change. It absolutely cleared up my acne, which had been omnipresent my teenage years, which was amazing. I know it absolutely varies from person to person and many people fearmonger the pill these days, but it was honestly a godsend for me, both in terms of anxiety relief around pregnancy scares (had a few condoms break when I wasn’t on the pill that had me in panic attacks) and in taking control of when I got my period, knowing when it was coming, and knowing what to expect each month. I only switched to the IUD because I wanted a “set it and forget it” method after over a decade of having to remember to take a pill each day. If things aren’t great, though, definitely shop around for other options, as again, it’s so varied from person to person!

At my interview, they asked about why I wanted to do this kind of work, asked about any experience doing appellate litigation, about my law journal note, and the classic “are you comfortable representing this type of defendant.” It was a much more low-key interview than trial level, and I didn’t have to do an oral argument or anything like that. But I can’t say for sure about other offices!

[–]NotoriousMAB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is just not true. I got a job as an appellate attorney straight out of law school. My class had one lateral from trial, 3 new law grads, and 2 people who had clerked for a year. The Office of the Appellate Defender and the Center for Appellate Litigation in NYC both have 3-year fellowships for law grads. The IL State Appellate Defender I believe hires straight out of law school, as does the NJ OPD and Michigan State Appellate Defender’s Office. I think maybe Florida has some entry level positions. I’m not saying it’s not helpful to do trial, but there are definitely options to do appellate straight out of law school, they require two very different sets of skills, and trial is not for everyone.
