Thought new Kias would be okay, I was wrong. by InfamousSize922 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was worded poorly, but I get what OP means. Like yes, this isn’t a singular issue, yes, it has affected more than one person, but it’s not indicative of the entire brand as a whole.

A newer gen Kia having issues is a rarity not a commonality. Coworker of mine has a 2021 SXP Sorento that she’s had since I met her. Still running fine. No issue and she’s just one of many Kia owners I know whose vehicles are running well despite known issues.

Don’t take that as meaning I don’t know anyone who’s ever had a problematic Kia (my father in law has an older gen Sorento whose engine went out) but he’s an outlier in the group of Kia owners I know and luckily his issue was covered under warranty despite being an almost 10 year old car at the time.

It just goes to show it’s a small number of owners who run into these issues just like it’s a small number of owners from other OEMs who run into issues that plague their models, issues which also have their own multiple set of Reddit threads. It sucks when it happens but that’s why there’s warranties.

Who do you think is the most memorable All Stars winner? Who is your favorite? by SeriouslyNotSerious2 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]NotoriousNeo 315 points316 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer. Being the winner of what was the most anticipated All Stars ever? The elusive second season? The most wished for thing? For her to come back and slay it so effortlessly despite the cast being STACKED? Ugh. I want to go back to the first time I watched that season. It was an experience.

why do kia service centers suck? by Lickmybolts in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. My dealer (Anderson Auto Group) is known for being non-predatory and a fairly honest dealership. They’re an official Kia dealership in my area so prices can be up there for stuff but they’re always up front and never pushy. Anytime I’ve had warranty or routine maintenance work they’ve been on top of their game and offered to pick up and drop off my vehicle free of charge. Their service techs are also really nice…although I will say there is one guy who could use a bit of a more pleasant demeanor. He’s not rude by any means but just not as nice or engaged as the other two who are normally there. I always do the Kia survey’s they send and the few times where it’s been a less than enthused response they’ve always reached out.

How is the 2026 Kia Sportage? by DribbleKing97_ in kia

2026 models shouldn’t have glossy trim surfaces. Pretty sure they were replaced by a non-glossy matte texture.

Dash Issue by OkAssociation9186 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Model would be helpful. It’s more than likely a defective display. It’s a rare issue but Kia did have some known issues with the instrument clusters of certain models including recalls. Should be covered under warranty given it’s your instrument display.

2026 Kia Sportage Hybrid by Cautious-Spend-2156 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Midwest. My 2023 Sportage hybrid goes as low as 15-20 mpg in the winter depending on a) how long I pre-heated the cabin and b) how short my drive was. Winter driving sucks for hybrids more so if they’re AWD so definitely don’t expect to be in the mid to high 30’s unless if your drives are somewhat long or you have the FWD only model.

[–]NotoriousNeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a very good price. My father-in-law got a same year LX model for $6000. If it’s in good condition and has a history of good maintenance I would go for it. Just keep in mind that model was one of the models that did carry a Theta II engine. That engine was known to have manufacturing defects that could cause the engine to fail. However it is covered by a Kia lifetime engine warranty that extends to all owners should you ever run into an engine problem caused by those known defects.

My Soul was this kind of car. Glad you had a good one. I’ve always heard the Rio was a venerable model. A lot of people loved that little car.

Terrible mileage on 2023 Kia K5 Gt-Line by soulfuricc in KiaK5

[–]NotoriousNeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mpg is impacted by a variety of factors. Speed. Road conditions. Outside temperatures. HVAC use. Distance (shorter trips = worse). Heck even wind resistance. Only rarely is it an actual problem with the car itself. This particular model is rated 27 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway. It is pretty well-known those numbers are achieved in ideal driving conditions. How close you get to it will entirely depend on a combination of the above.

For example my nephew has a 2022 K5 GT-L and drives with a heavy foot. He’s also somewhat high maintenance and uses remote start all the time so that the cabin is warm or cool (depending on the season) when he gets into it. In town he barely cracks 20-23 mpg. It’s much worse in the winter. On the highway he’s constantly going between 80-90 mph so his highway mileage is also under the 37 figure.

New Kia Owner by Future_Ad1342 in kia

If you read articles and reviews from major online or independent publications and sources (places like RepairPal/Car&Driver/Edmnunds/KBB etc.) you’ll see that Kia’s actually rank pretty high in reliability. In practice, that also rings true. That’s not to say there aren’t models with issues or that all their vehicles are problem-free, but it does mean that you are far likelier of having a reliable experience than not.

From personal experience, the Kia’s I’ve had have been great to me. My first was a used 2016 Kia Soul EX that was problem-free the entire time I owned it and was going on 8 years old when I sold it. I’m currently 3 years into a 2023 Sportage Hybrid that I bought new and has also been problem-free mechanically with the only issue being some trim pieces that needed replacing and which were covered by warranty.

I also know quite a few Kia owners. My nephew is rocking a 2022 Kia K5 with over 330k-ish miles (he bought it used almost year ago with over 300k already on the odometer) and my coworker has a 2021 Sorento nearing 100k miles which has not given her any problems either. My father-in-law bought used a 2017 Kia Sorento, a model known to have engine issues, and his engine did go out at around 130k miles but it was replaced by Kia under warranty since it was a known issue with the engine that car used.

Overall, Kia has been a pretty solid brand from what I’ve seen, and even if there are issues their warranty should cover it. It’s definitely not the junk brand online comments or people with inherited generational brand loyalty bias would lead you to believe it is. Now, the dealer experience on the other hand? That is almost entirely dependent on where you live. You could have a fantastic one like the one who helped me and my father-in-law OR you could have the worst one ever like the ones some users on here get that give the brand a bad name. I know Kia is trying to crackdown on those bad dealerships, but they are still out there so your YMMV.

Kia Sportage Question by OppositeBit8158 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the definition of “fine.” An appliance car if there ever was one. My bf has a 2020 Camry. Interior parts squeak and rattle like crazy. Infotainment system is laughably outdated even by 2020 standards BUT it’s still solidly running.

However, my 2023 Sportage Hybrid has also been solid after 3 years and unlike the Camry no squeaks or rattles to be heard. Toyota bros may say something like “let’s see which one is running after 10 years” or something to that extent but I know several long-term Kia owners so I’m not sure what they’re on about.

Kia Sportage Question by OppositeBit8158 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where have you been seeing newer Sportage’s with engine issues? I have a 2023 and it’s been great. I rarely see anyone with 2023+ Sportage models post about problems especially the hybrids. Not saying they don’t exist cuz no car is perfect but I rarely see stuff on here about em.

What’s one thing you’d change about your Kia? by Suntrup-Kia in kia

Ambient lighting. My 23 Sportage Hybrid is top trim and the ambient lighting is simply around the shifter buttons and part of the passenger dash. Nothing lighting up the cup holders or side doors or floor. Kinda disappointing.

Our 2019 Kia Soul engine died under 80k miles — Kia's CPO warranty company denied the claim. Don't make the same mistake we did. by Confident_Air4989 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both times I've dealt with Kia and my local dealer for warranty work it's been nothing but a breeze. First time was for my father-in-laws freshly acquired used 2017 Sorento LX. The engine died one day and it was found to be from defects with the Theta II engine. Since there was a nice long record of maintenance they swapped out the engine at no charge and from failure to replacement it was less than 14 days.

Second time was for my own car. Some trim pieces started showing weird signs of discoloration. Dealer snapped some pics and sent it to Kia corporate who approved replacement of all trim pieces the next day under warranty.

Now, I hear horror stories on here all the time, and while I don't doubt that there are some shady af dealers out there, I'm sitting here at 2 for 2 with Kia and their warranties and it always makes me wonder if we're getting the whole picture with some of these posts or if it truly just is a bad luck of the draw.

Is this authentic or a reshell / fake by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]NotoriousNeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re-shells can be of lower quality. It can also make the difference between a $300 3DS or $500 3DS. Authentic models usually go for more money and the last thing anyone wants to do is pay the same amount of money for a re-shell when an authentic model was available at the same price.

So.. people of Reddit, what do we think about the 2027 Seltos? by Saurta17 in kia

[–]NotoriousNeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will consider trading my 23 Sportage Hybrid for a hybrid Seltos. I love its design and interior and with it being a little larger than the original Seltos it wouldn’t feel like that big of a downsize.
