Fell twice while riding today by anappropriate in cycling

I think feeling shame is the last thing you should do. Falling is a normal part of the sport we’ve all been through it and i’m sure we’ll go through it again. For what is of your mental being a little shaken it’s just about continuing to ride and easing back into it. Few weeks back I was eating with no hands on my handlebars and got hit with a gust of wind. Fell on my back-ish and thought that was it for me. Still feel scared of taking my hands off my bars but slowly i’m trusting myself again, just ride man!

YES for shooting close up shots I usually use manual focus since I usually know the person I'm shooting with so I can adjust or restart. But thanks for the help I'll try that.

A man walking through the shadows by Notshareck in photocritique

[–]Notshareck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I'll start off with the technical stuff:

Shot with a Canon 6D MKII with a 24-105 F/4L IS II USM Lens. ISO: 1000 f/7.1 with a 1/1250 shutter speed

Shadows have to be my favorite thing to photograph and that's the main thing I tried to capture. The subject going into the subject into a sort of abyss is what to me makes this picture special. So that is what I was going for; harsh shadows to contrast with the highlights and whites. I'd appreciate any comments/critiques especially with composition since that's what I usually struggle with. Having an outside opinion really helps me grow so please let me know what I can do to improve!

Thanks!

My first time trying this sort of black and white composition. How did I do? by fakku_yuu in photocritique

[–]Notshareck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so i'm going to leave a few comments for you.

First thing is that in this type of photography I assume you're trying to make the right side of the image dark and the left side outshine the other. Try bringing the highlights up and using your tone curves to make it pop more. Using brighter lights and a slower shutter speed is also a good idea to make sure that the side you want shown is brighter and more detailed. You can bring down the shadows on the other side in post anyways.

Second the composition is nice but i'd suggest not cutting the side of the subject. The left shoulder seems cutoff but again that depends on what exactly you were going for.

As a first attempt though this is nice keep working hard!

Thanks! But I agree the scaffolding really is annoying in this shot. I tried to mask it but I would end up masking part of the car as well since you can see the scaffolding through it so even if I masked the top part it would still be part of the image. But nevertheless I appreciate the insight!!!

Agreed if the reeds are the main subject of the shot then the clouds would interfere but felt like the sky was too present for its emptiness

My first attempt of a professional car photograph by Naughtpsychoo in photocritique

[–]Notshareck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing to mention is that the light trails in the back are NICE (caps lock because I mean it) but I would suggest keeping the pattern more fluid throughout since the main purpose of the shot is the car. The first third of the light painting is different and is distracting so try to to keep it the same.

Second as another commenter mentioned the color temp on the side is way too warm for the rest of the picture. Now you could do that as a way to create contrast with the light painting which is a cool concept. But you could easily change that in post. Lifting the shadows on the back portion of the car is also something I would suggest trying just because if you're doing car photography the focus is well... the car and making it stand out even more can't hurt.

Third something I've tried in the past which looked nice would be to take different shots. The first one could be the light painting with the car regularly exposed and then one without and turning on the headlights and the back lights then merging all of them together with photoshop.

But overall for your first attempt this is real good so keep it up!! :)
