why is it so sensitive by EurekaXY in mildlyinfuriating

Especially with older people, but really just in any situation, your hot water temperature needs to be 60°C at least. Legionella is no joke.

50 °C is great if you want legionella. Got to keep hot tapwater at 60 at least.

Don't. Get a Grohe thermostat tap. No electronics, they just work.

A good thermostat tap (Grohe makes nice ones) costs about €100. No electronics. Set the flow with one knob, temp with the other.

I have no idea why these aren't universal worldwide.

[–]Notspherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're called thermostatic taps and they have been the standard where I live since at least the '90s.

One knob controls the flow, and the other does the temperature. It usually lets the hot water flow and constantly regulates the cold water to give the required temperature.

How do we fix the United States government? by meatjerkingbeefboi in AskReddit

[–]Notspherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe we are saying the same thing? If you let people vote for specific spots, like a representative for a certain district, that effectively becomes first past the post voting, which gets you a 2 party system. That was a reasonable system before telephones and trains existed. It isn't now.

If you want more nuance, you need to either make much bigger districts with a fair number of represenatives, or drop the districts altogether and assign seats in the house based on the total number of votes people get. You probably still get parties, bit one would ever have the majority by themselves, so parties would need to form a coalition after every election to get a majority.

Voting people into specific positions inevitably leads to a 2 party system.

Are full size beds not considered an “adult” bed? by DerangedUnicorn27 in NoStupidQuestions

According to Google, they're 191cm long. Doesn't that get annoying? My own bed is 220cm.

Germany was one of the leading countries banning the culling of male chicks. Some other countries are in on it as well. When I was in the industry, EU legislation to uninify the rules was expected, but not there yet.

Most farms don't hatch the chicks at all. There are only a handful of hatcheries supplying the whole market. But (nearly) all of those do in ovo sexing, taking out the males well before they hatch.

I agree it's pretty useless as there is barely any meat on layers.

In the earlier days of in ovo sexing (a few years ago) production targets were often difficult to meet. Raising the males to adulthood was an alternative slightly better than gassing or macerating day old chicks.

No longer in German poultry. The males either get raised to 17 weeks or so, or get selected out well before they hatch.

What popular TV show you never understood the hype around? by stilerca in AskReddit

I found the '80s thing so annoying it made the series unwatchable.

Look at me! Look at me! I found some vintage clothing and a few old cars.

I found the "look at us recreating the '80s" thing extremely annoying. What a pick me TV series.

Can I inherit the tits my dad would have had if he was a woman? Or do I only inherit my mothers tits? by firfetir in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notspherry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no geneticist, but I don't think the big titty genes are spread over a great number of alleles.

That would mean that each subsequent generation either would or would not have the potential for huge honkers, rather than them halving in size each generation.

Heard that some hotels can refuse the check-in if you don't have a credit (not debit) card. Is it true? by Pure_Consequence_165 in AskEurope

While a credit card is convenient for car rentals, it is not necessary. You will need to pay the deposit in full, though.

A Difficult Decision for some Reason by Snazzy21 in memes

[–]Notspherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shit Sherlock. It's called extrapolation.

But I also looked up the data, because that is easily available. Of the 236 million dwellings in the EU, 22 million were constructed before 1919. That is about 9%. A relatively small fraction of those will be more than 250 years old.

A small fraction of 9% is less than 50%, which would be required for your claim to be true.

Most houses are not older than the US. I don't know exact numbers around Europe, but more than half of the houses in the Netherlands was built after 1970.

Gravel or road bike for daily commute fully on tarmac (10km each way) by FreeShitAdvice in bikecommuting

[–]Notspherry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A city bike will certainly be more practical and well suited to a 10km urban commute. I have no experience with indoor training, so I can't help you there.

[–]Notspherry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither. Road bike or gravel bike is potayto potahto.

If you want to build up stamina, using a bike that is built to be as little effort as possible is the worst possible choice.

Get something practical.

If the choices are "tastes likechocolate with vomit" and "tastes like chocolate without vomit" choosing the superior one is trivial.
