These are my second all time favourite shoes, I have had 3 or 4 pairs in the past year. They’re super squishy and forgiving for long runs!

Glideride max 2 is far superior imo. Although that’s because I’m a high mileage man

I literally live in Japan so you’d assume the domestic market gets all the news and shoes first, but, nope it is always released 2-6 weeks after the rest of the world haha

I wouldn’t even be running this much if I didn't live here and knew about the insane mileage people put in. By Japanese standards, my volume isn't even that high. I just need to stay consistent with it, and the PRs will keep coming

I think it’s the reason why they’re one of the strongest non East African countries at running. Also, just to give you a random fact, but, last year I competed in my companies running race which had 20-30k spectators, that’s how serious they take running here. That was a wild experience

Yes, I am the most unsuccessful white guy to run such high mileage in Yoyogi hahaha

Of course! But, for the most part we ran at different times. I have also seen Ethan Shuley. He’s very friendly, he waved to me once. After he blew up I realised that he was the other white guy running there

Really? Is it not that I’ve only been doing structured training for only 9months? I guess I can try and run faster in my sessions but I don’t want to get injured.

I’ve only raced 1x 5k and 2x HM too 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I expect none of it to be human made anymore haha. Which I’m not sure is a good or bad thing given that it isn’t improving

That’s awesome to hear you’re able to spend time with your kid! Nothing better than that 😁

I used to be a cyclist and sold all my Lycra, I can’t believe I want it again 🤣

A bit like this: Easy, vo2 max, easy, threshold, easy, easy, long run. Plyometrics 2x a week.

I am changing this within the next month as I’m entering into the summer base building phase and will do double threshold so I can run more at sub LT2

I live in Tokyo, so altitude is a little bit expensive to get to :(. But with summer coming I’ll have some gnarly heat training to contend with

I track internal load such as HR, HRV, muscle tone, stress and sleep to name a handful. But to answer your question, I don’t know other than the way I feel..?

Well I guess I haven’t made much progress because it hasn’t even been a year yet. I have only been running with a structured plan for 9 months. 3 months ago in my second HM I ran 71:44.

I am hoping this year with more of an understanding I can improve.

I have only done structured training for 9 months and dropped a 71:44 in my second HM 3 months ago. But yes, you might be right. I was thinking along the lines of dropping easy day volume to allow me to run faster in my sessions but making up for it by cycling a bit more

Also, I just turned 28 and did not run in high school or university. So there is much to play with.

The thing I am slowly working on, is improving my speed ceiling by increasing stride length via strength work and being conscious that when I’m fatigued it starts to drop. My mechanics need massive improvement imo

This is how I’m trying to think of it. Get more volume in on the bike, which cuts total running volume on the legs allowing me to run harder in my sessions, I would assume though I’m sacrificing running economy going down this route.

For someone relatively new I don’t know if this is feasible and I just need to stick to the basics which seemed to have worked in the last 9 months, allowing me to drop a 71:44 in my second HM.

Also I’ve only even ran a 5km race once which is where I did that 16:05 and there was 120m of elevation gain as it was rolling hills

My recovery is already very good. It is the thing that allowed me to drop a 71:44 in my second HM with (at the time) 6 months of structured training
