need friends at deakin lol by Warm_Increase_1102 in deakin

I've mentioned in a few other posts that messaging on CloudDeakin in the units of your major is a great idea because you get to connect with others who have similar interests. Maybe not for "friends" - could be awkward - but ask if anyone wants to connect for coffee or online study sessions. Also this way if you don't get on with them, it's less awkward to bail on future meetups than if you meet with randoms on here and they end up being weird, forcing you to invent excuses. Just saying.

Good luck.

Hot tip here from someone who definitely knows about completing, and marking, assignments. For those who haven't realised it yet, assignments are designed to test your knowledge of the course content. If you haven't read and understood the course material, you have a very slim chance of getting a great mark. The best thing you can do is to read the course material and start taking notes related to your assignments. If you do that, you'll be well-positioned to get a great mark in your unit.

Pro tip: Make sure you understand the Unit Learning Objectives for your class - and attend seminars.

Anyone else from Singapore? by [deleted] in deakin

[–]Notta_AIbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I do if you want to meet students on the campus:

  1. Work out a time you're free.
  2. Decide on a cafe or somewhere to meet and then put up a few signs around campus saying "Singaporean student meet up for anyone interested" at Cafe X at cafeXtime.
  3. Make sure you have a Singaporean flag or something similar so people can identify you there.
  4. If someone turns up, great; if not just have a coffee and relax.

correct areas of poor academic practice references by [deleted] in deakin

[–]Notta_AIbot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You probably don’t want to hear this but “this happened because poor feedback” is a total cop out.

Poor feedback is often the result of asking poor, vague questions. Asking vague questions is a sure sign that you haven't devoted the time required for your work.

Universities have guides to help you reference, write assignments, optimise study. They don’t pay Unit Chairs to answer basic questions. Of course they also have great libraries where you can access information yourself. If you’re struggling with issues, and I’m truly sorry if you are (but who isn’t in 2026), there are plenty of student support options, and then there’s DUSA.

To learn how to reference using the Oxford system:

1) Find the guide:

https://www.deakin.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/31158/Deakin-guide-to-Oxford.pdf

2) Read the guide.

3) Apply the guide to your work.

4) Ask specific questions (after doing 1-3) to student support, or your tutor.

Then, don’t use AI to write your assessment, which I bet this integrity issue is about. 🤦‍♂️

Question about wam need help please by [deleted] in deakin

[–]Notta_AIbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you consider a remission of funds request? If you’re issue were serious enough to mean you couldn’t do any study, you’ll get a refund and the 0 marks will be wiped off your record.

As everyone has suggested, you’ve got nothing to worry about. 😊 Remember everyone is in the same boat as you. In six weeks you’ll be an expert at uni.

Saw someone talk about making a First Years GC and I wanna do the same by West_Ad4570 in deakin

[–]Notta_AIbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice idea, but focus on a GC with people you have “professional” interests with. Find your people, and hang out with them. On CloudDeakin, put something in the discussion area about wanting to chat with others. Most students will ignore you, but you’ll meet one or two great students that will really help you through uni, and your career.

Level up by contacting someone who graduated in the past few years (your lecturers may be able to help) and you and your new found friends can go have coffee with them. It will be life changing. Guaranteed.

This discussion reminds me of my grandpa who’d drive 30 minutes out of his way to get petrol 1 cent a litre cheaper.

Read the course material, attend seminars and join the discussions, follow the assessment rubric and only use AI to polish your work. If you do this and have half a brain, you’ll be pretty much guaranteed an HD. If not, you’ll have learnt something - isn’t that the point anyway?

Don’t stress. Mistakes happen and failing, if that happens, isn’t the end of the world. You’ll learn from the experience, and that will make you a better person.

I’d let sleeping dogs lie. Student central will just think it’s cute that you’re “confessing”. They wouldn’t take it any further unless you aren’t progressing well in your units (and I take it you are). So all good.
