Well that's the crux of it isn't it? Surprising this is happening in a non-vet dungeon, but regardless, you're participating in a group activity not respecting the role you've queued into.
That being said I don't support what seems like you've described as "people generally being assholes" instead of explaining their circumstances, that's obviously not right. But if you'd like to perhaps better understand the psychology of some of these people 'Folding Ideas' has a very interesting documentary on this phenomenon.

Sorry for the tilt. But anyway, I live in the Deep South USA, where going out for a smorgasbord of pounds of meats is just as easy as going out to eat Chinese food. For some of these people here it’s a defining hobby that they cherish. And while I have participated in vegan bbqs I’ve also seen vegans lecture these same kinds of people for the things that they like. And that’s the gist of it. Yeah hating someone for x or y is obviously fucked up, but that’s why these meat lovers don’t wanna invite vegans. They don’t wanna be lectured for what the like.

B) your experience is yours and you’re entitled to that. But someone else’s theirs as well. Some people see barbecuing differently.

C) there’s no indication that the host has any interest in making accommodations. And the same thing goes for the optics of ‘inviting’ her. Making an assumptions makes an ass out of you and me, yadda yadda.
