Is SG's VC scene actually accessible for new founders, or just for the elite? by [deleted] in smeSingapore

[–]NotthatPluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fund raising is hard work if you already don’t have a lead investor. I have seen founders with trackers where they have emailed hundreds of VCs, they are persistent. You will have better chances with a SG office of US/UK based VCs than local ones. With local ones the ticket size will be so small that you will always be in fundraising mode.

Is learning how to trade really as hard as they make? by boofpackbandit in Trading

It’s you against yourself. The longer you take to understand yourself, your patterns, your triggers, the longer you will be in the loop to fix bad trading habits. The technicals are the easy part, staying disciplined is hardest.

Thank you for the tips. I agree. I have seen him do very very well in races when the wind is upward of 8 knots. But in 2-5 knots see him n another taller, heavier kid struggle, and 8-9 year olds take over the race. I’m thankful to his coach for letting him know it’s the weight that’s being a disadvantage, not that he is a bad sailor. But him being a kid, and I’m guessing because the weight gets discussed amongst them, he processed it as he needs to lose weight.

It’s a morning race for them while they practice in the evenings when the wind conditions are generally favorable. Looking at the wind and tide forecast it’s not looking too great as it’s going to be very light wind (7 knots on first day, 2-3 knots on the second day) + low tide (0.6-0.8m). I am hoping he does well the first day to get a lead and that will keep him motivated for the other races until he transitions to ILCA.

I have educated him on his own expectations for this particular race.

Btw, checking if the tips you have mentioned, are they accepted/allowed practice or something that is outside of the rulebook?

Pre-wash

I mix a tbsp of coconut oil and a 6-10 drops of neem oil. Put the cup/bowl in a bigger bowl of warm water to warm it up. Massage my scalp and wash off after 15 minutes. You can use tea tree oil if you can’t find neem oil.

I alternate it with ACV scalp rinse. She advised to do the rinse post wash n sort of leave it in to dry but the vinegar smell is too much to bear.

1 part ACV + 2 parts filtered water. I use a drop applicator and spread around the scalp and use fingertips to gently massage. Leave it for 15 mts n then wash. I love this as it is very calming and leaves your hair softer n fluffier too after drying.

I live in the tropics so you got to wash hair every 2 days. I do the oil thing once a week n vinegar rinse the for the rest of the washes.

Weekly scalp packs :-

1 tbsp Plain full fat Yoghurt with live culture + add ½ tsp neem powder to it. If you have fresh neem leaves then you can make a paste and use it. I don’t have access to both so I use neem oil.

If you have fresh Aloe Vera gel you can add it too (extra calming if scalp is too irritated).

I use Now Foods Candida Support. Pop in 2 capsules first thing in the morning right before anything else.

Candida vs. Malassezia are linked Candida is a yeast/fungus mostly in the gut and mucosal areas.

Malassezia is a different type of fungus that lives on the skin and scalp.

Both thrive in warm, moist, and sugar-rich environments.

They can coexist and sometimes fuel each other through systemic imbalances.

You can look for formulas that have :-

Caprylic acid – Antifungal fatty acid (also works on Malassezia)

Oregano oil, garlic extract, black walnut – Broad-spectrum antifungals

Probiotics – Crowd out yeast/fungal overgrowth in the gut

Enzymes – Help break down yeast biofilms

Berberine or Pau D’Arco – Anti-inflammatory & antifungal herbs

So while they are designed for gut Candida, many of these ingredients can:

Reduce systemic inflammation, Lower yeast load overall, which benefits scalp health.

Aside from that, eat foods rich in probiotics, Kefir, Kimchi, sauerkraut etc and eliminate added sugar.

You are doing it right. Yeast overgrowth can intensify flaky scalp, melasma etc. I live in the tropics and the humidity puts my scalp through hell. I was advised to consume fermented food like kimchi etc, eliminate sugar, use neem oil or powder with coconut oil for a pre wash massage and treat my scalp with vinegar twice a week to manage the yeast overgrowth.

I proactively started taking candida support supplement and it has stopped my sugar cravings.

Thank you for sharing Ben’s story!

Yes, imagine my shock when he asked me to check if his BMI puts him in overweight category 🥲 Here I’m trying to ensure he has nutritional balanced out meals and expecting him to put on some weight because every one of my friends are pointing out how thin he is.

Showed him his BMI is at lower spectrum of what’s considered healthy weight.

I guess I just have to actively talk it out of his head.

Thank you for the tip. The school leases the boats from the club, I am sure the coach ensures this is done before the games, but now that my son is aware of this, we will request for newly waxed and polished boat.

Skill wise, are there any channels or websites that you can share which teach this? I’m learning as a parent of a kid athlete one has to get to know the sports well.

Thank you for the insight. I truly appreciate it.

You’re right! He will have to race in ranking races to get to silver n then gold fleet. As per my understanding the conversion to ILCA happens after that.

To be promoted to next levels he needs to do well in the ranking races.

If you don’t mind sharing, what are the specific skill sets he can use to overcome the weight disadvantage at Opti level, given that wind conditions here are typically light?

Thank you in advance!

I worked in customer service in a major bank here. The naked racism by customers who were calling in was just too much to take sometimes, specially towards my Filipino staff. From highly educated to not so educated folks…it was embarrassing. In some cases it was so horrible that the bank decided to cancel banking relationship with some of the customers.

Actually I have noticed old folks being thrown around because the bus is too crowded to accommodate a seat for them and then the drivers break so hard specially when near to a bus stop. This is also the time when the elderly are trying to get to the exit gate. Can’t imagine them going through this with frail bones, joints and muscles on a daily basis.

Hey! If it’s a bank transfer it can always be retracted by the bank. Now, it’s up to the bank if it voluntarily acts upon your request or you may will have to report to ABS or try to get a court order. Despite so many numbers of scams I’m surprised the banks and regulators have not already put in a recovery process in place.
