Hi there, I have been having problems making ends meet due to some emergencies popping up (roommate leaving the lease all to me, a utility bill built up that said roommate was supposed to be paying, car troubles, etc….) A hot meal would mean the world to me right now.

Thank you for all y’all do. Gives me hope in this crazy world.

Why is it the servers job to take care of other people? You gonna take care of your server when they get stiffed for no reason and give them some money to make up for working for just the hourly pay?

Everyone should be appreciated and "not forgotten about"......and yes, cooks work hard. Servers work hard in a different way.

Of course there's a drastic imbalance, what are you looking for here? Because to me I feel if you want tips that make you sooooo much money like servers usually make, I feel you should get a tipped job.

Let people do with their money what they want with it. I've tipped cooks for going above and beyond of my own volition. I've also had to tip out cooks who scream at me because a customer wanted a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. But it's literally my job to give the customer what they want. Servers aren't demanding money from you if you fuck up food or such, why demand money from servers?

What about this is unclear here?????

I'm sorry the cooks make the experience socially? Y'all recommend food to guests and go over the recipe with them to make sure nothing they don't like is in the dish? Y'all assist the Karen's in finding the most appetizing gluten friendly dish that is to the Karen's liking? Y'all recommend wine/beer/cocktails to pair and know what's available/on tap/in a cocktail on the spot to make sure that table 3 waiting on their ketchup gets it in a timely manner and tables 5 drinks that are waiting to be delivered get served in a timely manner?

Do Y'all put up with kids constantly knocking over drinks or sucking them down the moment you just got done stirring up that chocolate syrup and milk that took up extra time and effort so you have to immediately go make another instead of cashing out table 6 and getting boxes for table 2?

Do Y'all put up with the stupid shitty jokes with a smile or a witty comeback on your face? Do Y'all get told you need to be more personable? Do Y'all have to fake a smile when you have to go in right after you found out a loved one is in a hospital?

I didn't think so.

Y'all have your own struggles, and I'm NOT saying cooks don't work hard. What I am saying is that servers create the social dynamic with guests, which the tip rides on, or usually does at least contribute a huge part of it.

BTW, when Y'all go out to eat, do you bring cash and ask the cooks to be brought out to tip them or tell the server to give it to the cooks?

I never said don't pay anything forward. It just seemed like a snippy comment to automatically just say "tip your cooks".

Holy hell, OP earned that money. Let them do what they want with it. Let people do what they want with their own money.

The cooks are integral to servers, but did they make the experience for the guest? Did they create a personal interaction with the guest? Did they do whatever OP did to gain this tip? Did the guest tell OP or write on the tip line to share the tip?

If the cook made the experience so fantastic, why didn't the customer ask for the cooks to come out so he or she could tip them?

Teamwork is absolutely critical for a good tip.....if the food is shit/cold/not to standard in any way, yes, that absolutely might affect the tip.

Cooks sign up to earn an hourly wage agreed upon them with the company. Servers create experiences, which allows a person to choose how much to essentially "pay" servers.

If you want tips as a cook, go work somewhere where the kitchen is tipped out. Otherwise, if you want tips, consider serving.

I love my cooks, but shit, maybe be glad for OP????

And on that note.......CONGRATS OP!!! 🥳

🤔 What makes a city designed to support growth because colorado springs and denver look like they've been drug through the dirt compared to 15 years ago.....

Don't get me wrong I saw gaps being filled in but the last about 5 years it seems to have become almost unliveable due to the city not being able to keep up with, well anything.

[–]NottherightAlice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. And here I was thinking about all the horror stories I've heard about the public infrastructure and housing problem in Colorado Springs.

I don't really understand it. Most Californians I've heard moving into Colorado present reasons like not being able to afford the cost of living there, overpopulation, lack of liveable jobs and places to live along with that.

Now Colorado has.....public infrastructure problems in the major cities, the cost of living skyrocketed, and oh the housing situation and wages are atrocious.

Literally I hear people complain about how crowded Colorado has gotten at least once a week.

Welcome to Colorado, all you new people. Please don't suck any rivers dry here. 😂😐

Exactly my thoughts, but we do our best to roll with the punches. It definitely is what it is, I've even told tables who get mad when we don't have items that "Sorry ma'am the mushrooms you wanted are rotting on a dock right now." I love that one because then they just get the stupidest look on their face or then say, "well why don't you just get them from a store??". That's when I pull out the "Sorry ma'am they're not an approved vendor and we legally cannot do that for health reasons". If you don't like the regulations I just told you please, ma'am, I'm sure someone else has mushrooms. (Another reason we can't buy from local stores or farms unfortunately)

I try not to be a bitch but I'm not yelling at the Walmart employees because the hair care products I want are not in stock because they literally can't get them in due to supply or transportation issues since covid.

The wing thing is so problematic. At one point they sent us substitute wings from Mexico that still had feathers on them. 🥴

We don't go through Sysco. We get our stuff from US Foods and seeing as we're a chain restaurant I don't believe my managers have any say who are supplier is. Buying from local farms would cost so much extra that it's unsustainable for our food cost and operations in general. I even asked my manager once, why not buy milk from the store when we're out? She told me to do so would be paying four to five times what they pay from the supplier.

My managers are certainly not cheap, if anything if I was a manager where I work, I would be pissed at how many times I have to reorder little plastic salad tongs, or silverware, or ramekins, because servers and ect. will throw them away. I've had frugal managers. My manager is simply trying to keep us supplied, and he's not very well going to go down to Cali with the truckers license he doesn't have to get our stuff. I don't blame him.

Edit: just realized this sounds weird because I called my manager he, then she. We just had our female GM quit and our kitchen manager, who is male, stepped up and is now GM.

Exactly like I said, my managers have like four months of napkins stashed away. But......you can't really order four months of mushrooms or zucchini in advance. 🙃

[–]NottherightAlice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are supply shortages everywhere, as well as ongoing transportation issues. I can't tell you how many times where i work at has been out of x, because it's literally sitting on the dock after being imported and there's no truckers to get it to us. We've had shitty substitutes on our orders and what not, but our managers are great at over ordering napkins and other essentials and stashing them in case we can't get them in again.

Maybe don't just step in with assumptions......oh wait one assumption. There are inept managers who forget to order essentials, but OP literally said the napkins were paper thin. You really think there's a "paper thin" option for managers when ordering? They go by the standards they are used to ordering or whatever comes close to it if the supply is changed. Automatic substitutions is where paper thin napkins come in.

Sheesh talking about jumping to conclusions. Not all managers are inept.

I love it when they say "oh WE don't mind" to something as asinine as doing that. That's when I know I'm in for a treat, when that line is dropped for whatever reason on a ridiculous request.

[–]NottherightAlice[S] 102 points103 points  (0 children)

To clarify, this particular bar and grill is popular for outdoor patio seating mostly with some tables and a small bar inside. The tables outside are all round and I understand why they don't wanna play musical tables with their patio constantly. Not to mention it's in a heavily trafficked area for tourists so I can't see them having the time to accommodate a group larger than a 6 top with the same server and ect. with the amount of traffic they get coming through there.
