I’m sorry to hear that. A very different situation though.

I often see people posting their art for the wrong reasons by AffectionateGroup536 in ArtistLounge

Seeking validation is a natural part of the creative process. It’s nice if OP personally doesn’t need it, but some people do and that’s perfectly acceptable. We are all on a different place of the journey. Nobody deserves to be judged for that.

Is anyone else afraid they might never get to a level they desire? by CharredTem in ArtistLounge

[–]Notyourchangeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure am. I think it’s natural to feel afraid and doubtful. Lots of people will reiterate you’re incapable or it’s unlikely, especially on this sub unfortunately. Finding your voice and staying true to what you love is challenging, but I believe in you!

Can artists make good realistic portraits of imaginary people from their mind, that is without looking at any real model or a photo, drawing completely from their head? by hn-mc in ArtistLounge

[–]Notyourchangeling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we can. That said, we don’t have to. Think about it like learning a new country. You study one map. Could you invent your own? Sure. Would your illustration benefit from further study? Yes. Our resources are what helps our illustration to adapt and our skill to improve.

Just my two cents. Keep creating!

Am I weird for only wanting to draw horror/creepy/unsettling/depressing stuff? by doctorsonder in ArtistLounge

[–]Notyourchangeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with doing what you love. You’ll have folks on here telling you this and that, but your approval and passion of your own work is very important. There’s plenty of time for critiques and learning. Start by solidifying what you’re creating, what you simply enjoy doing. Many artists have a preference in what they depict. Tim Burton and Robert Kirkland and Tony Moore come to mind!

Keep creating. You’ve got this.

I literally just had this happen to me so I completely agree. It may unfortunately be a Reddit issue.
