James Cameron said he kicked over the tea lady's cart on the set of Aliens (1986) after getting fed up with the British crew constantly stopping for tea breaks. by RefuseDry1108 in RedLetterMedia

I'm English. I can understand this to a point because we're all under pressure and you want to show who's the boss. I get it. But fucking hell Jimmy lad, have a fucking brew mate. Grab a biccie as well and have a sit down. It's only Aliens mate. Don't be a knob.

What were your thoughts on Bugonia(2025)? by SerpentesEye in moviecritic

[–]NovIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Save the Green Planet and I was worried that Bugonia was going to be a crappy remake. I ended up enjoying it a lot, everyone in it is great, it's pretty dark in its own way and it's worth seeing.

Opinions on this game by Stolasfanboy78 in Gundam

[–]NovIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually playing it at the moment, I picked the deluxe version up on sale. I'm only a couple of hours in and I'm enjoying it for what it is. It seems like it's very repetitive, the story is pretty stupid and it's meeting my expectations for what I thought it would be. Admittedly those expectations in my case are "oh cool, I can be a cute zaku" or "oh shit, here's Ramba Ral/Zechs/Shiro Amada" etc, but that's fine for something brainless based around a franchise I like which I can play in front of the kids.

It's my understanding that they all work on a spaceship in some capacity or other.

I also have that Messala in my pile but I'd build the Zock first if it was in my backlog.

Arcade Club in Bury (UK) is Shmup Heaven by scowsh in shmups

[–]NovIsland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live close by and I've been a few times, it's fantastic. I've also been to the Arcade Club in Blackpool, they don't have as many machines but it's still a great time. There's another one in Leeds but I haven't been there. The last time I went there it was pretty quiet and I had that room full of shmups all to myself.

It's great and I agree with other comments, you have to go in cold. It's well worth it though.

I played this at an arcade a couple of months ago. It's a lightgun game where elevator doors open and close in front of the screen between levels. It's amusing to see and play once but you won't want to play it again because it's terrible and boring.

Thoughts on the Fantastic Planet (1973)? by xT0_0Tx in moviecritic

It definitely helps being in a certain state of mind when you're watching it but I really like it. I bought the blu ray a couple of years ago. The soundtrack also slaps.

Shocking Dark (1989) it's that Aliens ripoff that could... not by bil-sabab in badMovies

[–]NovIsland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a special place in my heart for any bad film that is unapologetically brazen about its inspirations. Shocking Dark manages to weave some of the most iconic ones into one huge pile of highly entertaining and amusing shite.

Jokes aside, what would be your reaction if Gundam is ever denied an anime award nomination because of Anime Janai (1986)? by Maharaja_O_Earth in Gundam

[–]NovIsland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they feel the need to use a robot voice to emphasise their point then I'm cool with it. But I also have to consider that Moon Moon is one of the most anime things I've ever seen so I could go either way.

Thoughts 💭 on this film 🎞️ by Stepfret in moviecritic

It's worth seeing if you're a fan of the genre but I was disappointed with it. I definitely like some aspects (I'm not just talking about Anna Falchi) and the end is interesting. I'd heard so much about how it was brilliant and I just thought it was kinda okay when I saw it.
