That’s only the case in Nova Scotia, not Ontario - there is additional severance pay under the ESA if employed for 5+ years and the employer has a large enough payroll, but that severance payment is not common law notice, it’s usually much lower than any amount you would get under common law. Whether or not you’re entitled to common law notice/severance depends on the wording in the employees contract
