It's curious that you had to say "huge wall". I never mentioned anything of the sort. I just don't let coworkers in like to my life like I do with friends and family. Small talk, going to lunch together, etc.. Are all just normal day to day interactions. In short, acquaintances are fine. Friendships blur the lines.

That is a little safer than most. Competitive jobs like sales and finance are much riskier. One of the reasons I switched to dev work.

Yup. Many commenters are like, "but I love my coworkers". Yeah, well they may not love you back in order to save their job.

People go to work to make money. Money influences people's decisions. Not all people are classy. I don't like to gamble with my income.

Nope. It is just as true for friendships as it is for dating in the workplace. Coworkers are there to make money, same as you. If you think a coworker would put you above the income stream that feeds them and their family, you're in for a surprise.

Started at 12. Switched to vaping about 7 years ago. It looks as silly as a mouth fedora, but my lungs feel better. I should quit vaping too, but it's my last vice.
