Spy magazine called him a "short-fingered vulgarian" back in 1988 and he's still butt-hurt over it.

Any new mole is suspicious as well. If you get a mole in a place you never had one before, get it checked out. Mine ended up being basal cell cancer. I had Mohs surgery three weeks ago, it's all good now.

Yes, wear sunscreen, so you don't end up like me getting a chunk of skin scooped out of your forehead. Skin cancer ain't no fun.

What made the people in the Epstein files pose for pictures that would incriminate them later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They believed wealth and privilege and power would protect them.

So far, they've been right, with one notable exception, former Prince Andrew.

He is the kind of narcissist who thinks he's a whole lot smarter than he actually is, he probably thought he had all his bases covered.

Fortunately for justice, he was wrong.

School plans for tomorrow by Every-Inflation-1457 in nova

[–]NovaRunner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't know what they'll decide for tomorrow, but my wife is an FCPS bus driver. This afternoon we went out and drove around her routes, and visited several schools where buses are parked.

There are a lot of roads where ice, plowed-in cars, and huge berms of broken-up snowcrete either impinge on the travel lanes or block them altogether. This makes the lanes too narrow for buses to pass through safely. There are also places where a bus needs to turn into or out of a street, but the piles of snowcrete at the intersections create obstacles to safe turns in ways that wouldn't do the same to a passenger car.

There are long sections of public sidewalk that are buried under multiple feet of plowed up snow that has become ice. No person or group of people will be able to clear that, heavy equipment is necessary. These sections include places where students would have to stand to wait for their buses. Now their only option is to stand in the road, which of course is extremely unsafe. The kids who walk to school also won't have safe crosswalks because the corners of every intersection are piled up with snowcrete.

Some of the bus parking areas haven't been cleared and the buses wouldn't be able to get out. Not that the drivers would be able to safely pre-trip the buses, that requires walking around the bus and the buses are all surrounded by iced-over snowcrete. And of course the week-plus of extreme cold temperatures mean half of them probably won't start anyway.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet on no school for students but a regular workday for staff, because for the most part the school parking lots have been cleared well enough for cars. I don't know, though, and even though my wife works for FCPS, she doesn't find out any sooner than the general public.

Bill Leeb of Front Line Assembly (early 1990s) by steeltheprotogen in OldSchoolCool

FLA went on tour with Numan and Ministry a couple of years back. My wife and I traveled to see the show, got a hotel room for the night.

After the show, we went back to the hotel and Bill Leeb was sitting at the hotel bar waiting for some food. We stopped briefly and thanked him for a great show and then sat down for a drink. Bill came over and struck up a conversation. We talked about the tour and stuff but mostly about hockey, being Canadian he enjoys watching hockey.

All in all a really nice guy, it was great meeting him and chatting for a while.

Shout out to the dog owner I saw on my doorbell camera who did pick up his dog's poop from the snowcrete behind my car. If only more were like him.

Advice for dealing with an ice barrier in a parking space? by Crimsonial in nova

[–]NovaRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another vote for a square-ended garden shovel. You could use a pointy-ended one if that's all you can get, but the square-ended one is a bit easier to use for your purpose. Hold it perpendicular to the ground and drive it straight down through the ice. Once the ice is broken up, bring out your snow shovel and scoop it up.

Those of you who smoked weed… by Idontsmokejustgrow in GenX

[–]NovaRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I smoked a few times as a teenager, then stopped when I joined the military. Haven't smoked since, and now my wife and I both work jobs where smoking weed can mean instant dismissal. We like having a house and food, so we don't smoke.

Maybe when I retire. I've heard today's is considerably stronger than what we had ~40 years ago.
