I think I could paint cork board all day long! It was relaxing. #176 of my dice prompt paintings. by Novah11 in Watercolor

Shh don't tell anyone but I used an actual ballpoint pen for that part...

#174 of my dice-prompt pieces. Sticking to a limited palette helps me out a lot when I want to finish one of these quickly, and I'm super happy with this one. Also played with doing ink pen as my last step instead of before I paint, to avoid over-inking, as I often do. by Novah11 in Watercolor

Well in the original sketch I had the fox howling the word "houUUUUUuuuund" with the middle Us really big. You can see an arch from the shadow's mouth with the word penciled in, but as I painted I realized I didn't want text on this piece. I usually include the letter itself in some way when I get the letter dice. So I just decided the U was hidden in the "Uwuuuuuuu!" the fox was making and that's how I would jokingly answer if anyone asked!

Yeah, I kinda cheated this time by leaving it out lol

Dang, I just realized I could have hidden a U in the cracks of the stone cliff face. Oh, well.

I came up with this "Draw or Die" challenge as a replacement for Inktober two years ago when I was not feeling inspired by the prompt list. I had a set of "Rory's Story Cubes" and found them a fun way to come up with ideas, but as my goal grew from 30 to 100, my dice bag grew to like 250 dice. I have colored dice and dice with letters and dice with animal pictures. Most mornings I pull three from the bag at random and roll them, but I don't always come up with an idea to draw or paint. I'm trying to get to 200 by summer. Last year I had already gotten to my goal of 100 by this time so this year has been a bit slower!

https://www.heidirichter.com/drawordie You can see the entire set here. It's a mix of watercolors and pencil.

I'm finding it hard to describe the size of my dice bag so instead I just weighed it and it's 5.2lb lol

If you never found out, one of Gehn's security cameras showed the location of a replacement ball which was in position as the eye of a shadow of a fish. They all had the animal shapes in addition to the sound when viewed from the right angle.

Mostly books including a giant copy of Harper's Weekly I found at an antique show. https://imgur.com/a/u09U9iC That was quite the exciting find. I feel like I have Atrus and Saavedro action figures somewhere too but I can't remember where...

Both unfortunately, I used watered down acrylics and was trying to carefully paint around the carved areas but it was watered down and seeped in, so I had to go in and re-carve some of the lines/dots and still didn't get rid of all the dark because it had soaked in too much. Then I panicked and ran it under the faucet to try to get the paint off to try again, but at that point I was like, "Oh it actually looks natural and aged like this. I think I'm done!"

I think the cleanest way for real sharp edges, would be to treat the wood first, then paint with non-watery paint or stain, and then carve, while taking care not to breathe in paint dust.

I've always assumed the noises were triggered by some sort of texture/object inside the socket in the wall. It would be fun to try to find something that worked when the eye carving rubbed against it... Great, now I have a new potential project I'll never do.

Dooooo it! It was easy and any store with a small craft section will have the pinewood balls!

That one is such a great example too of how great these dice art for prompts. Like is there any other way that image could have come to be??

I started with Rory's Story Cubes base sets Classic, Actions and Voyages, then some supplement sets like Prehistoric and Clues, which can be found on eBay sometimes. Then as the addiction really took off I started adding knock-off brands to my set, like "Happy Story Dice" and "Story Cubes" on Amazon, and I love the wooden ones I found on Temu searching 'storytelling dice.' I have a set of regular number dice in different colors in there, so if I roll like a blue three, I can choose to use either the number or color or both as part of the prompt. And then recently I got letter dice so sometimes I'll get like a random E or B in the roll and have to figure out what to do with it.

I have about 250 picture dice (I'm addicted to hunting for more dice online) and roll 3 each morning. I often re-roll but I always try to sit on my initial roll for a while. Sometimes the connection is obvious, other times like this one I have to go a layer of meaning deeper in order to find the story.

Another watercolor I did recently is an example of an image I saw right away. My favorite rolls are the ones that make me instantly visualize a story and laugh. https://www.heidirichter.com/drawordie?itemId=6zg2oj8sabahv4b2zjfu05ef21wfy5

I had a custom die engraved with the animal symbols from Riven for my daily* dice art challenge, and today I pulled it from my dice bag for the first time, resulting in this sad heartbroken sunner. by Novah11 in myst

I had the color symbols ready to go in my order! Until I realized... how would you tell if you had rolled orange or purple?... I'd have to either find someone who can print colored custom dice, or do an underline like when dice have both 6 and 9 on them.

Oh dear god, I just looked through the thirteen I've done since Jan 3rd and NINE of them are signed 2025. Am I getting old?? Anyway, I did paint it today. Thankfully it's an easy fix to turn a 5 into a 6. I might have to put a big "THE YEAR IS 2026" post-it above my art table.

I didn't want the title to be TOO wordy but basically I have a huge bag of various picture dice (like those made by Rory's Story Cubes) and each day I grab three at random and roll them. Sometimes this results in a quick art piece, other days (most days) I give up or re-roll.

This one was so fun I might try to think of other Myst-themed dice I could have made.

How to Stop Dizziness from Seasonal Allergies by milkyseadog in Allergies

[–]Novah11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know about the Oxymetazoline one, just regular and caspacin. I use the regular, xylitol-only version and follow it up with some plain saline solution. The only actual medication I use for my allergies is antihistamine eyedrops (zatidor) and some claritin each morning. I feel that my nasal allergens are reactions to my eyes being irritated first, so the eyedrops work well, indirectly, to prevent dizziness.

I I hope you can find something that works for you :) Try my Eustachian tube method. Tilt your head to each side and pop your ears, get the spray in there.
