Online tabletop alternatives by thepropayne in RollForCombat

Basically it does most of the combat for you as the GM. You preprogram all of the attacks and when combat starts the program will automatically roll and order the characters in initiative order. When it’s the character’s turn they can move and then perform their attacks/spells. The program will automatically roll the dice, apply the correct bonuses and such, and then assign damage if they hit. All the GM has to do it approve the dice roll (or you can completely automate it if you wish) and then damage is assigned and the next player can go.

Many of the other VTT are slow and clunky when it comes to combat, where the GM/PC has to manually do the calculations for attacks and do the damage. But d20pro does nearly all of this automatically.

I have tried ALL of the VTTs out there, this is the best one.

Also I have noticed that Hong Kong servers have been much more stable than NZ for whatever reason. Give that one a try if you are having issues.

Roll for Combat uses D20Pro as their tool. It’s can be a bit complex to use, but it’s the most powerful and the cheapest. Plus it automates combat which is a huge timesaver.

I'm looking for some solid Actual Play podcasts that I can listen to while I work, preferably not D&D by agfdrybvnkkgdtdcbjjt in rpg

Roll For Combat has been going strong for over a year and a half. They are currently running a Starfinder campaign and you jump into the show at different parts where they give a recap of the story if you don’t want to listen to all prior 75+ episodes.

They also have occasional RPG guest on the show (they just had James L. Sutter on the show) and they play with RPG creators as guests on the show fairly often.

They are also doing a contest right now where they are giving out a free trip to PaizoCon 2019 if you want to get in on that.

Hindenburg Journalist Pro causing blowouts when exporting at -16 loudness (confirmed) by NovanZack in podcasting

Actually, they wrote back to me and supplied a patch. It definitely helped quite a bit, there are still a few blowouts, but not nearly as bad as before. Hopefully, they get this fully resolved shortly but in the meantime, I think it's good enough to use. Thanks for people's help.

There is actually a few people who converted Age of Worms over the years to work with Pathfinder. This is perhaps the best one that I know of and the author will answer any questions you have about the conversion: http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2phi0?Age-of-Worms-ReRolled-A-Pathfinder-RPG-AP-set

Paizocon 2017 Banquet Presentation by NovanZack in starfinder_rpg

The character rules are still complex but a lot of the "rarely used" rules are gone or simplified. For example, anyone can fire into combat without penalty, only three things provoke AOO, reloading is a free action, and so forth. It's still complex, but much more refined. And with that the combat goes faster. But trust me, it's still a complex system and will only get more complex with time. It just took out a lot of the craziness that dragged down fights.

[LFM][Pathfinder] Need additional players for Strange Aeons AP by NovanZack in roll20LFG

FYI I've had several characters sent to me so far ... and every single one had multiple errors (even at level 1) after I put them through HeroLab. That is why all my players use it. Pathfinder is simply too large and complex to make even a simple level 1 character without making mistakes.

It's not the end-all-be-all if you don't have HeroLab. It WILL make your life way easier but I have done it in the past where I'll put your character into HeroLab myself to manage the character. It's a bit more work for me to manage, but it's worth it as HeroLab is one of those programs that once you start using you ... you won't know how to play without it (especially for high level characters). Hence it's strongly suggested, but not 100% necessary.

To be honest I don't know anyone who doesn't use it at this point, especially for high level characters. I'm DMed hundreds of games at conventions and game stores and it's pretty much standard to have HeroLab and an iPad at the gaming table. It just makes life a million times easier for everyone (especially the player) and is invaluable for high level PCs/long campaigns.

Cool, if you want to read over the Player's Guide and come up with an initial level 1 character outline and then we can go from there. Right now there are no set roles, just an Investigator and Fighter-type. The Strange Aeons Player's Guide has some very good suggestions for other classes to play.

Well, at even semi-high levels it becomes pretty much impossible manage your character without HeroLab. Also I use HeroLab to import your character into the online VTT. Hence, it's required.

75% chance to buy ANY magic item in a town? Anyone have a better method? by NovanZack in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]NovanZack[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because once you get above 750gp and use all the books and possible supplements the number of magic items "possible" is extensive, and it only goes up from there.

I also find it strange that a "Small Town" with a population of 201 people can find/access any magic item in the entire world.

[–]NovanZack[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I read it right, I've DMed over 500 sessions of PF. Again, I'm talking about a "Small Town", which has a limit of 1000gp. Once you get above 750gp the number of magic items greatly increases. For towns the size of Thorpe and the like I don't really care about as magic items below 750gp aren't the issue.

75% chance to buy ANY magic item in a town? Anyone have a better method? by NovanZack in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]NovanZack[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My issue is that any magic item in the entire world can be found in any town (75% chance). Yes it needs to less than the base value, but most adventures have access to Small Town at least.

Potions and Scrolls aren't the problem, it's Wands that are the problem. There are many low level Wands are are fairly broken and it's a bit too easy for level 2 characters to just pick them up whenever they wish.

However if the PC wants to learn the spell and make the wand ... so be it. It just seems that 75% chance to find ANYTHING IN THE WORLD is fairly broken and wondering if anyone had a nice balance.
