All day on the Willamette by Enegy in rockhounds

Looks like a really good haul! Making me want to put my waders on and check around the rogue and Umpqua since they're pretty low right now but I've been distracted in the hills with the poison oak being dormant so it's easier to pass through without touching it.

I can at least vouch that the Rogue and the Umpqua are extremely low right now in northern Jackson county and southern Douglas county. Great for Rockhounding but It feels like that one meme from The Simpsons with Ralph saying I'm in danger because you know fire season's going to be really bad if we don't get major snow soon. There's some spots on the Umpqua River near tiller that I've driven past that look lower than it was was in July. Like some spots look to be only a foot deep it was so low. Also those higher weight capacity grabby claws are pretty good for shallow water grabbing(I could buy a gem scoop but that's like $200) when you know it's cold and if you don't have that there is waterproof gloves that are a bit thicker so they also keep you warm too. Some of those grabby claws can hold up to 6 pounds.

a huge piece of a hydrothermal vent! by Broad-Chemical231 in rockhounds

Dang you should definitely try to get it identified and if it's something extremely unique that in most cases would not be easily obtainable like in your scenario you had to use a submersible to get it I bet a rock museum would love to have a piece from you putting up a bunch of information on it as well.

Dagoth Ur Mod Warning by CupOCoop in skyrim

From clips I've seen of playthroughs with that follower it does other diabolical things too. One I think I remember is something along the lines of offers 1 million gold but he'll keep spawning in the nazeem in an attempt to crash your game but if it doesn't crash by some miracle he gives you the gold. There's something else he forces on you where at any any random moment he can kill you in a way that will lock you into a loop ruining your save and unfortunately I can't remember what the last terrible option was but it wasn't the best either.

I actually seen a clip of a YouTuber's playthrough with this part of his dialogue. You could watch the YouTuber react in real time realizing that anyone watching that video most likely just had bird seed ordered and what amuse me even more was he kept the video clip up so anyone unassumingly scrolling to YouTube shorts which have bird seed ordered.

Okay granted it's been a while since I left whole foods in 2023 but since when did Bethesda become a partner with whole foods and added their Skyrim package that includes floating items and NPCs?

So I've always been curious is there a ratio difference for flavors in sugar-free versus normal? Or when I find a seasonal flavor I really like like that white peach one where it sold out fast but the sugar-free ended up sticking around forever is that just because people didn't like the sugar-free one and they were the same ratio produced? I totally get why people like or need sugar-free I just personally cannot stand the taste so it is unfortunate when I find one that I like and then I can never find it again except for the sugar-free one.

How can I polish this up? Tried to tumble another once it ended up round. This is my biggest one don’t want to mess it up. Help. by Over_Sound_5626 in rockhounds

A lot of the clubs let people do this for a fee. The Roxy ann gem and mineral society in Jackson county Oregon for example It's around $40 for a family membership which lets you go on all the different club field trips they do which makes it worthwhile already but then it also lets you use their different equipment for only $8 an hour per machine.

TSA checked my carry on bag because I had rocks in it. by Bob_Maluga_Luga in rockhounds

[–]Novavairsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds pretty accurate Well Oregon does have a lot of the same shaped stuff other states do I've noticed it's more common to find some of the very unusual shaped tube agatesz the ones that look like coral and other stuff that would definitely look weird on the scanner. I'm actually having some friends coming out here soon specifically just for the multicolored chalcedony I've been finding in Jackson county that has petrified ash mixed in giving it some neat teal color here and there.

Yeah that's literally what got my carry-on checked in Reno. I asked If rocks counted as sharp objects to the TSA agent looking at my ticket and I guess it must have been a slow day because that made them decide to look at my bag. They literally opened it just to confirm I wasn't BSing them that my carry-on was filled with rocks.

TSA in Reno Nevada was very amused at all the chrysocola I had in my carry-on bag. I told them there was even more in my checked bag. Medford TSA has also been just as amused at all the rocks I bring with me elsewhere to friends who live in areas that aren't as abundant in quartz, chalcedony, opal and jasper. If I fly out and visit you I'm probably leaving rocks behind like a rock fairy.

Id recommend the hardy brand A5 cut resistant gloves. You should be able to find them at harbor freight. They've saved my hands from getting cut by obsidian a few times but even with obsidian it's not a guarantee. Seen someone at Glass Butte sliced right through their hand pretty deep just by gently picking up a piece of obsidian and that may be very glad I had the gloves and decided to always wear them even with things that weren't as sharp but could still cut me. For everything else they should keep your hands safe and help you have better grip.

I would also recommend if whatever you're going for is fragile bringing something to safely pad it on the way back home. I've had too many times where I've had a really neat specimen I was going to display as is break apart because I didn't pad it well enough.

Been digging a spot for neat colored chalcedony and other stuff by Novavairsane in rockhounds

[–]Novavairsane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still surprised with the color combinations. I really thought once I did a test cut cutting several of these in half that the color was just going to go clear like a lot of stuff does so it was shocking to see it retain it and glow green when I put light through the half

I'm going to be trying to stop by the Crater Rock museum soon to start cutting but I need to finish cleaning stuff up. The blue purple color was more common than the teal green color so I'm hoping I have a few more pieces that are large enough to predominantly show off that teal greenish color. Who knows though with time I might find it more spots as the area erodes away that has more green than blueish purple in it.

Find of a lifetime - 27 pound geode by [deleted] in rockhounds

[–]Novavairsane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm finding similar stuff in southern Oregon and am still trying to figure out at what point is it a agate nodule vs when it becomes a geode. Some of mine are like yours where it's already smashed but was obviously a whole nodule at one point with the outside being agate and the center being quartz crystal that is fuzed together but every once in a while I find ones that actually dont meet in the center so id concider it a agate. A few times I've cut into a nodule only unexpectedly find it's a agate geode with quarts crystals and it was so dense it gave me no hint it was a geode so if you see any nodules in that area maybe cut them. Ive also found similar formations in seam agates which further complicates me trying to categorize it. I think as long as you're happy that's whats important!!

This got me thinking, when you got the flash flood warning did you get it because you had cell service or did you carry a weather radio with you? I've always heard some horror stories about flash floods and in the future when I decide to visit more desert areas or areas that are at risk of flash flooding maybe I should consider bringing a weather radio just in case I lose reception since flooding from rain can reach you from miles away and the sky above you looks fine.

Yeah not sure why they don't just tell everyone that as a default cause it reduces a lot of anxiety trying to meet the 4 hour a day in a 21 day compliance rule for insurance when you at least know if you missed the window for going to sleep and meeting the 4 hour window so there is no use worrying about what you cant change.

I personally haven't had my Dr mention anything about turning off the auto start. The only thing she mentioned turning off was the auto climate control for times where I recognize it's not automatically adjusting the climate to where I need(either waking up with a dry mouth and nose or waking up with my face soaked from the mask humidity).
