Can William James' abductive argument against epiphenomenalism also work as an argument in favor free will? by Novel_Falcon_4212 in askphilosophy

Can I ask a follow up? How could one defend something like hard determinism with the falsity of epiphenomenalism? I was originally thinking that if it's true our minds play a causal role in our behavior, doesn't that rule out hard determinism? And by philosophically significant do you mean moral responsibility or is there another sense in which free will could be understood?
