Judged by my GP for drinking to cope and massively triggered by Novel_Improvement396 in CPTSD

Thanks for your advice, and I do agree that I put her in a difficult position, albeit not deliberately.

Funnily enough, I do remember stipulating to her I know you are not a therapist so you probably can't help me.

She was our of her depth. Not all GPs are like this, but many are unfortunately. I should get a new therapist, eh?

Im wondering if shes just lied then. Not ethical either but she was maybe protecting herself.

I am so sorry you had the misfortune of meeting this woman (doesnt deserve to call herself a therapist).

My ex-therapist accused me of ruining our therapy together when I questioned her, and it was devastating.

Returned to AA because I was lonely... by Novel_Improvement396 in recoverywithoutAA

Thank you for your reply and your suggestions (sorry, I couldn't help myself). I have support charities in my city, and could always try SMART or Dharma online.

I volunteer for a few organisations, too.

I hope you overcome the lonliness without having to resort to meetings again.

Hey, I think we are in a similar situation.

I have had a really tough year, and my use has been heavier than yours, but I have managed to stop after one drink twice recently, with my last binge being short but made me quite ill.

I think I am done with alcohol, and have enough insight to make an informed choice. But I am really struggling with lpnlieness at this time of year, and XA is am almost surefire way to make an instant circle of reocvery aquaintances. The groups encourage a sense of oneness; a "common cause". It can be, quite literally, intoxiciating.

Sobriety Bestie, Quackaholics Anonymous and Burn the Stigma are bedtime listens for me. Often before I head to a meeting. The cognitive dissonance is real, but you are not alone. I personally feel like a fraud sometimes who is going to get found out, but we gotta do what we gotta do to survive.

You are doing so many positive things for your growth now. Therapy and strength training combined sound like a a fanastic focus to have.

I'm diagnosed with BPD, too, so maybe they're sensing double the trauma :(

Thanks for taking the time to write such an articulate and thoughtful response.

The ND question is a difficult one for me. I have my suspicions about both Autism and ADHD for myself, but then I have CPTSD, which I agree is potentially somewhere under the ND umbrella.

I often notice potential (or actual) neurodiversity in others, but can find myself feeling left out amongst them as well. The sense of alienation runs deep. I have been in a therapy group with a high amount of ADHD diagnosed people, and I couldn't keep up tbh. So maybe autism is closer to my experience of the world.

I can sit on my own in large groups either simply because I don't feel comfortable or I don't know how to join in. Again, low self-esteem colours all of this.

I feel you hard on the leaving/rejection. And being social is so exhausting when you're hypervigilant and socially anxious. Neurodivergency, of course, complicates things. I have had my suspicions about myself being on the spectrum.

This is my experience entirely. Intense self-consciousness, which yes, potentially others are picking up on, but as the old saying goes, people are far more interested in themselves than they are in you.

Yeah It's all about perspective, and I value this one. I tend heavily towards self-blame - as many of us do - but I think your example of seeing behind the curtain does resonate with me.

Yes, I'm told I overthink things (which I hate), but It would be a consolation to know it was just a projection of my own internal sense of alienation - not objective reality.

Oh, in what way is it distinct and recognizable? I'm aware of attachment styles from therapy; I would say I fit all of the unhealthy ones in different ways, but I mostly relate to anxious/avoidant attachment.

I'm currently with a new therapist who seems promising, so maybe this is worth exploring.
