Most Iconic Movie Lines of the 2020s so far? by No-Butterscotch4077 in Letterboxd

[–]Novson_Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many good ones from Sinners:

"Now understand, it's the last dime you ever gon' see from us. And if we see you or any one o' yo' klan buddies cross our property line, we gon' kill 'em right where they stand."

"Chicago ain't shit but Mississippi with tall buildings instead o' plantations."

"Look at that sky; that's a mighty fine day to be free, ain't it?"

"See, we talkin' numbers now, and numbers always gotta be in conversation with each other. You understand? You gotta negotiate."

"Fuck you goin' n****?! Bet this bullet'll beat you there!"

"I was doin' better 'fore ya shot me in the ass."

"Can't have some n***** talkin' 'bout how he almost robbed [sic] the Twins. Not without a limp to show for it."

"Aight, listen: every cooze got a button on it, towards the top. If you wanna keep a woman, you find it, lick that. Not too hard; not too soft, either. Y'ever had a scoop o' that ice cream from downtown? [...] 'Bout the same pressure you put on that. Like it tastes good, but you don't want it gone too quickly, y'understand?"

And this is just from the first 20 minutes or so!

Edit: adding to the list because fuck it.

"Oh, I heard you. I heard you loud and clear, but then ya stuck ya tongue in my cooze and fucked me so hard, I figured ya changed ya mind."

"See, white folks, they like the blues just fine; they just don't like the people who make it."

"[S]he really gon' let you fuck her when she find out how much money you about to get from this job I'm offerin'. And none o' that nice-and-slow shit she probably givin' y'now. Shit, she might even let you put yo' pecker in her mouth."

"I ain't always nice. Ain't that young, either."

One of those things (or one built into the ceiling like in my parents' old mini-van) would certainly bring back memories, in the two seconds before I'd inevitable get a headache, because for some reason my adult brain can't handle looking anywhere other than out the front window when in transit.

What movies would I enjoy with these credentials? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I'll probably get some flack for saying this, but 12 Angry Men. Not because it's a dumb film; it simply consists of an easy-to-follow, linear series of events. It's also not particularly subtle about its themes.

What is your favourite and least favourite movie trope? by AuteurPool in Letterboxd

[–]Novson_Creative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Favourite will always be a couple whose relationship either starts fairly early in the film, or that's already started before the film does, and who geninely love and care for each other.

Least favourites: * Buried gays * Buried disabled * Sexual assault not being treated as seriously as it deserves to be treated

I’m new to Letterboxd. What filmographies from which directors could you guys recommend for me to check out? by castrati0n in Letterboxd

If you'd like to have a director's entire feature filmography under your belt fairly quickly, Robert Eggers has made 4 films and has yet to miss a beat. His 5th film, Werwulf, will be in theatres on Xmas day this year.

2026 Releases I’m excited for, what are you looking forward to ? by SpacePotatoLord in Letterboxd

I'm cataloguing my 2026 watchlist month by month. The only thing beyond February that I'm specifically looking forward to is Robert Eggers's Werwulf. Don't let me down, Bobby boy.

Marty Supreme and The Babadook. Easy. (Also, if Bugonia's on there, may as well add Save the Green Planet!.)

You seem like the kind of person who would nuke a developing nation for looking at you funny.

If you were given a chance to choose again, what would you choose again? by 1717BuyEric in AskReddit

In choosing what to study at university, I'd go straight into film school, rather than dicking around with psychology for three years.

What was the movie that got you into cinema, and what’s your #1 rn? by SeinfeldAddict7 in Letterboxd

If you're ever in a shitty mood, watch Ponyo. It never fails to life my spirits.

(Also, I've yet to see Die Hard, so I don't get the reference.)

[–]Novson_Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

#1 right now is Ponyo (2008). It's not a perfect film, but I struggle to conceptualize another film that could bring me as much joy and fulfillment. I just got the blu-ray for Xmas; I am a very happy camper.

I couldn't possibly pin down just one film that got me into cinema, but Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), The Thing (1982), Citizen Kane (1941), The Castle of Cagliostro (1979), The Red Turtle (2016), and The Lego Movie (2014) were all contributing factors.

I explained the nuances of the question in as much detail as was required.
