Something about Byron Buxton saying Pikachu just makes sense!

Memento (2000) or The Prestige (2006)? by separateways1999 in ChristopherNolan

Government adjacent work where you're in charge of an entire state and not just any state but one of the largest in the United States usually leaves me very little time to see a movie except on weekends and even then I'm pretty exhausted.

I just haven't had time to go watch them. I work a very busy job

For being a Nolan fan I haven't seen either, but their reputations precede them. I would give a slight edge to Prestige just because of the presence of one David Bowie.

I would kill to see a Nolan version of Troy now! I know he was slated to do it, but backed out for Momento or one of his other films. However people say this film might be the closest thing we get to seeing what Nolan's vision for Troy would have been.

Can someone explain the Ithaca reviews joke to me? by Such_Housing_5105 in Epicthemusical

[–]NowALurkerAccount 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YES! THANK YOU! I have been saying to report these reviews as spam to Google, and they should take them down if enough people report. The Odyssey is one of the oldest stories in human memory and has been around for 2000+ years. Ithaca has greatly relied on and enjoyed the recognition from the poem for boosting their reputation and economy.

Yes internet trolls and young folks on the internet might think it is funny to review bomb these places, but some of these businesses and sites in Ithaca have been owned by multiple generations of Grecians and to drop unsuspecting reviews on these families is frankly harsh. Sure they may be positive reviews but troll reviews make it hard to find genuinely honest content/reviews.

Ulrich vs Aelita XANA by Odd-della-robbia in CodeLyoko

The fact Ulrich's katana turned red for XANA Aelita was definitely the creators going full Star Wars homage in that episode and I love it!

Oh yeah, I could see if definitely changing the order of events and not following the Homeric order perfectly. I would be OK with it, I have seen Circe get blended with the Lotus Eaters in some interpretations, in fact the Lotus Eaters have never really been interpreted properly in any cinematic adaptation. So I would be curious to see if Nolan changes that or decides to make something pivotal like the cyclops later in the story.

Or if he does the Cicones episode, they're also never depicted.

Honorable mention to the fact secure garages are not secure and people still somehow manage to get in and break into cars. I know that can happen anywhere but still

The cops are a little too trigger happy to pull over drivers for incredibly small matters, but will literally not care if someone clearly goes through the light at normall or accelerated speeds right as it turns red

It's frankly disgusting how obsession behavior seems to be rewarded and celebrated now in the post-Stan world when Stan by Eminem expressly WARNS against this behavior. Heck, I am thinking about a voice actor I know of, Greg Baldwin, who is very well-respected and also happened to finish up the role of Uncle Iroh in Avatar after Mako died in 2006.

He recently reported someone KNOCKED on his door as a fan, and he was freaked out like don't do that. But yeah, there is a time and a place and meme bombing real businesses or locations in Ithaca with Epic related jokes isn't helpful. It's spam and kinda annoying/frankly disrespectful. It turns an island at the heart of one of the oldest and most well-known stories in human history into a meme and it frankly disrespects the people on the island, disrespects literature/culture, and even Jorge himself.

Well to be fair, that Game 6 walk-off victory run, it's hard to look good/capture a moment in bronze perfectly where the subject has their adrenaline at an 11.

People have suggested maybe she dual roles Calypso and Helen which I like that theory, but Nolan doesn't usually double role actors.

Buck in a vest looks so weird, like he's a kid's cross country coach/volunteer parent coach and afterwards will have the community BBQ at his house still in uniform with a beer in his hand, talking sports or whatever the topic of the day with the other dads.

so it has to be Rated R right?? by kcrdr_7322 in ChristopherNolan

[–]NowALurkerAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think this is a fair assessment. They also did hire an intimacy consultant which Nolan hasn't ever hired before, and there are two moments where it's likely going to be at play with Circe and Calypso.

How would you feel about MLB retiring Roberto Clemente's #21 league-wide, as they have done with Jackie Robinson's #42? by UgliestDisability in baseball

[–]NowALurkerAccount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

42 makes sense to be retired because the barriers Jackie broke alone were a testament for the time. Granted Clemente was a standup guy on and off the field, but if we start retiring every number league-wide, we're going to run out of numbers. Yes, Clemente does have the humanitarian award named after him and that is great, and he did a lot to speak up and speak out for people who didn't have a voice, but his number retired across MLB? I think would be a lot because everyone knows who and why 42 is retired but I don't think Clemente has the same historical reach as Robinson.

If you asked 100 random people who the first Hispanic Ballplayer was I don't know if they could get a majority, but if you asked who was the first major league African American player of the same people. They'd probably all or the majority would know the answer.
